9th Run // Sing Me a Song
//Private: Noctis & Prompto
[ When the Gear comes on Ash is kicking back with his Pokemon by a fountain. Several of his water types, notably Ronan and Scuabtuinne, were floating eagerly near him and joined him in greeting the pair. But instead of chatting, he pulls up something; a lovely acoustic guitar. He played a few notes to test it, before playing a soft tune - his Pokemon bobbed to it, with Ronan swaying from side to side and Scuabtuinne smiling and closing her eyes. As he began to sing the lyrics Danny began to sing along with him, although in Pokemon so to human ears it sounded more like he was howling along, admittedly in tune with the melody. The pair began to sing and will be singing the entire song, unless stopped halfway through! And as the chorus became obvious, the Pokemon around them would join in, all shocking to the beat and tune Ash was singing. ]
If I had a million dollars...
If I had a million dollars!
I'd buy you a house!
Oh, I'd buy you a house-!
//Open to All
[ After calling Noctis and Prompto to surprise them with a ditty, Ash began to idly play to himself and his Pokemon. And, unknowingly, to the network as his Pokemon left the gear running to broadcast their trainer performing a little. Upon realising it was on, he simply smiled and nodded. ]
Ah, sorry about this. Didn't realise I was being recorded. If you're not a fan then just turn me off or whatever, but, shit, I missed this. Playing music. Used to play all the time with my Dad back home. It was one of those things; long as you got an instrument or a voice that can carry a tune, you can while away the time with some songs. And I mean, a song can be about anything or any feeling you want. It can be daft or deep or about nothing at all really. My Dad taught me how to play and how to sing - he played violin himself but he knew guitar too! - and for him it was like. He sang old Irish songs and tunes that'd been passed down for generations in his family, so it reminded him of home. And here, it's kinda the same. Cos those songs remind me of him and the times we spent in our apartment, both when I was too little to play and he sang to me to try and get me to sleep, and when I got older and he began to teach me, and then when I got good enough that we could play together...good times man.
Anyway. Here's Wonderwall.
[ And yes, he begins to play (and sing) Wonderwall by Oasis. Get meme'd on or just enjoy the pretty song! ]

[Private]
That was amazing! You're really good, Ash!

Thanks man! But I'm a bit rusty after not playing for so long. But I remembered that song and just had to sing it for ya!
no subject
You've got one up on me. I never learned to play any instruments. I was always too busy with weapons training and then school. That a song from your world?
no subject
Well, Dad taught me how to play. He played violin but he also knew guitar, bass - think you could give him any instrument with a string and he'd be able to get music out of it! And yeah, it is. By a band called 'Barenaked Ladies', who were neither naked ladies or bears. But they made some good music. There's actually places were a violin can be used in that song, so I'd try and get Dad to play it with me.
no subject
Noctis's grin melts into a smile as he scratches at his Espeon's ears.]
That's a super cool talent to have. You only ever learn guitar? [A pause at that band name.] So is it some sort of joke that they call themselves Barenaked Ladies??
no subject
But urm. Well, Dad taught me how to sing too actually. Had me practice acapella to get my keys right. But otherwise we couldn't really afford tons of instruments. And I wouldn't ever touch his violin. It was like, a bit of an heirloom and it was sort of the one expensive thing he had for himself.
[ Macavity pushed himself up with his front legs, so eager and happy to see Carbuncle. He can't wait to see you face to face again! Did you like their song? ]
no subject
Not surprising. That he taught you, I mean. You sounded really good. Like, professional good. Maybe you could get your hands on some other instruments here, though, and see what you can do.
[He can't wait either, brother! And yes it was so good! Carbuncle twills in delight, squirming around so he can perch on Noct's shoulder now, tails flicking about happily. He wants to learn to sing too!]
no subject
You wanna show him what you got? No? Aw, that's okay. [ He pet her front as she timidly shook her head. Instead, Psychopump floated forward with an eerie cry. Ash grinned to her. ] You wanna sing for them instead? Go for it - I taught her a song my Dad taught me.
[ And lo, Psychopump began to sing. From her it was a wordless, haunting tune coming from her, but it was one Ash had sung to her to teach her. He strummed along on his guitar, shifting Macavity so he could reach the strings. ]
no subject
Let's here it!
[Carbuncle twilled his agreement, tails flicking as he settled to listen as well. Singing lessons could wait until they met up again. Right now he wants to hear others sing.
And oh is that lovely. Noctis and Carbuncle are both quiet as Ash plays and Psychopump sings, the Espeon swaying a bit to the tune. By the end, both of them have to shake out of their stupor, Noctis giving them a warm smile.]
That was amazing you guys! Holy crap what a pretty song.
no subject
Like I said, it's one Dad taught me! Normally it has some lyrics in Irish too, but I figured Psychopump could carry it herself. I'm just, getting back into the swing of playing. [ But it was more than that. of the things they owned, aside from their cramped little apartment, their instruments were the most precious to him and his Dad. Ash couldn't count all the afternoons and evenings they'd spent playing music or listening to each other play or sing. It didn't change their circumstances; their music hadn't gotten them record deals or anything like that and his Dad has stressed on him to not pursue that and nothing else because of how the industry could be. But it felt like it was a part of his soul, and getting a guitar meant that he was more complete than he was without it. ]
It's kinda like...it's kinda like having my magic back a bit, you know? Like something was missing, but now I got it again. [ Macavity trilled and rubbed against him comfortingly. ]
no subject
Yeah, I totally get it. I'm glad you were able to get a guitar again so you can play music. And I expect to hear you playing all the time over the network and stuff.
[He grinned, pointing at the other.]
That's a royal order. Got it?
no subject
Of course, you'll have to give me requests. Not song titles, cos I mean...that'll be hard to keep up with, but if you ask for a sad song, or a love song or whatever, I could probably come up with something! And that goes for Prompto too, I wouldn't mind playing some ditties for him as well.
no subject
[Noctis was grinning fondly.]
I think I can handle that. I doubt you'd know any of the songs I know and vice versa so emotions works easy enough.
no subject
But hey, if you know those songs then you could always teach me. I'm just not gonna be able to play them off by heart with just a name to go on.
no subject
[And he means that.]
I can try. I'm not really all that musical inclined but I at least know the songs. I bet Prompto could help, too.
no subject
And hell, even if we can't get them quite right, it'll still be something. Our own rendition!
no subject
A remix?
no subject
But man, you're actually making me feel a little shy. It really means something that you reckon I could've like...been a part of something so important.
no subject
[Noctis grins softly.]
Why wouldn't I think that? You're amazing, Ash, and one of the most trustworthy people I've met here. It'd be an honor to have you as apart of the Kingsglaive.
