The only reason he hadn't was because he hadn't wanted to upset Angel. So he'd gone as a Growlithe instead. A big, beefy, shirtless Growlithe. Possibly the least cuddly Growlithe in existence. Also likely the most terrifying.

And it would have been true. He wasn't afraid to get hurt, he certainly wasn't afraid of dying. He couldn't remember his past - everything he'd had before Pandora had already been ripped away from him, so it wasn't as if he had anything to lose. But after spending a whole year in this place, a gentle green world filled with gentle warm people, that was no longer true.
His laughter fades and he drops his gaze. He's quiet for several long moments, and he falls still save for his usual, unconscious fidgeting. Pain and death continue to be non-issues; that's likely to never change, or to change so minutely as to not make any real difference in the grand scheme of things. Other things have changed enormously, however, and that's quite the bitter pill to swallow. While he's never been the kind of guy to lie and dissemble, being asked to answer this question would induce him to start, if anyone besides Gaige had asked it.
He fidgets, and the small motion transfers into a jerk of his head as he brings his gaze back up to look in her face and meet her eyes. He's quiet for a moment longer before he blinks, fidgets one more time, and finally admits:
"Losing Angel."
Which is, admittedly, not an easy concept to develop into a Halloween costume, and definitely not in the spirit of the entire conversation up to this point, but hey, she asked!
