[Krieg is not having a good day - so far. One minute everything was fine; all of his myriad monsters present and accounted for, everybody as happy as their various circumstances might allow, and the next...Mari was missing. And not in a "she just kind of wandered off" sort of way, but missing. He's never been a huge stickler for keeping track of his crew's Pokeballs, especially when he's visiting Shiro and the kids on the island. Typically he just lets everyone out and leaves their respective balls on the porch where they can get to them if they want them - Torch Dragon especially likes having that safe space to retreat to. So not only is Mari missing, he can't find her Pokeball.

Not even the resident island Voltorb gang has seen her, and they typically know where everyone is.

Krieg isn't exactly the kind of guy prone to panicking, even in a situation like this where he's pretty sure he's just lost one of Angel's remaining Pokemon, but he definitely feels like vomiting. He's not quite to that point just yet, and is reaching for his 'Gear with the intention of asking if anyone has ever had this happen, or if maybe someone, anyone, has seen or found his wayward Mareep, when it pings. Naturally, he picks it up, since he was going to anyway - Maybe somebody's found her already and they're contacting him to let him know?. He flips it open and accepts the call.

It's almost like his heart registers what his eye sees before his (admittedly reticent) brain does, and he experiences a feeling that is often romantically described as "one's heart stopping." It doesn't stop, of course, and it also doesn't get lodged in his throat, even though that also feels like something that is happening. After a significant pause that allows his brain to catch up, he brings the 'Gear right up to his face - a habit he's very nearly broken by now, except in some particularly outstanding situations, and his voice cracks when he speaks:]
