Contest Winners!

[After a long weekend filled with plenty of fun, entertainment, and heart confetti, it’s time to wrap things up. The final acts have been performed, the judges have spent plenty of time conferring amongst themselves, and it’s time for hosts Anne and Liz to announce the winners!]

[… although there is an empty chair on stage, and an unused third microphone stand. Wasn’t Lusamine supposed to return to the stage?]

Hello all, and welcome to the part you’ve all been waiting for…finding out which of our marvelous contestants will be crowned the winners!

It’s a little sad, as always, for things to be ending… but there’s prizes! And accolades! Applause! So we can’t be too sad while all that’s going on, can we?

No, we can’t … although there is one thing to be sad about, which is that our third, far classier announcer was called away not an hour ago on urgent business. We’re not sure what it is, but we’re certain Lusamine wouldn’t have missed this for anything less than a catastrophe.

One that she’ll certainly solve efficiently and looking more fashionable than we could ever hope to be.

Without a doubt. Still, the show must go on! We can all applaud extra loudly so she can hear us all the way from… wherever she went.

[Liz leans forward, stage whispering with one hand held up to the side of her mouth.] Top secret. Very mysterious.

Very. As always, we’re getting the ball rolling with the Beauty category, because… well, why do we always start with that one, Liz?

Alphabetical order?

Good answer! No time to muck about with complicated questions and answers here, because we’ve got to award our delightful winners, Spookycheeks the Mimikyu and Blitz the Electrode, along with their trainer Jean Kirchstein!

Who I have to say, have certainly sold me thoroughly on a Mimikyu’s beauty being even more than costume-deep-- the love and care shining in each stitch of those outfits!

And the finale with her Electrode friend! Got me right in the heart.

I know it did, you went and used my sleeve to dry your eyes.

Hush, you were misty yourself. But! Onwards to our Clever winners, who made our mouths water instead of our eyes, Sticky the Slurpuff and trainer Kazuki Hihara!

Sticky was certainly enjoying all the ingredients…and very cleverly sneaking them.

Ah! [Liz taps her nose with one finger and then gestures it back to Anne.] I see, I see. Using Sweet Scent to flavor an oven is smart, but our winner is clever in more than one way.

Precisely. I do wonder how the move would have made them taste, but I suppose that’s for Sticky to know and us to simply imagine.

I expect we’ll see bakery copycats from here on, so maybe someday we’ll know for ourselves.

Perhaps! However, it’s time to move on to our Cool winners…Luca the Squirtle and Garfield the Torracat, with their trainer Dr. Peter Venkman! Who…we sincerely hope is all right!

That was part of the act, wasn’t it? A cool fight with some bikers to close out some very cool—ha!—ice sculpting?

Hmmm… maybe we ought to ask security to step up its game next time. If only to guard us all from you laughing at your own accidental puns.

Nonsense! But back to the act, I have to say I’ve never seen such a snazzy duo create a sculpture like that before! Ordinarily I’d put something like sculpting down for Beauty, but this firmly belonged in Cool.

Agreed. Defending their trainer was an added bonus—although someone do let us know how Peter is doing after the announcements!

Yes, and let’s keep going! Our Cute winners are some familiar faces, although unfamiliar to the category: Skadi the Alolan Ninetales and Vixen Sharp-Ears the Alolan Vulpix, with trainer Ford Pines!

More sculpture, but this time on the positively adorable end of things! I wasn’t expecting that little Vulpix when this got started, but what an amazing surprise star!

If she and her scarf aren’t made into the cutest plush toys in the stall by next time, I’ll be shocked. And very sad, because I think now that I’ve said it I really need one.

You heard her, get on it merchandisers! We KNOW you're taking notes!

And now, our final special category, Tough! Winning with a sizzling battle are Miss Fortune and Mr E the Incineroars, with trainer Jinx! Whew! What a story, and what a match!

And what a satisfying victory for Miss Fortune! Finally managing to defeat her… whatever these two are!

You don’t think it was scripted? Most wrestling matches—

ABSOLUTELY NOT! That triumph was real, and I don’t want to hear a word otherwise. You could see it in her eyes! She was finally tough enough to win!

Woah there, let’s move on before we get too carried away. We’ve still got our Best in Show winners to announce, after all!

Oh… of course, right you are. Well! Drumroll please…our third place winners are Doppel the Ditto and trainer Ray Stantz!

We’re getting so many interesting storylines this time around…although, I have to wonder.

Wonder what?

How will we know which of them to give the trophy to?

I suppose by the time they come up, we’ll have to devise a test that’s as clever as that transformation, won’t we?

I suppose we will! But we’ll have to do it quick, because we’re moving on to our second place winners, Louise the Drifblim and Faraday the Phantump, along with trainer Egon Spengler!

Oooh, this one had me on the edge of my seat! I wasn’t expecting something so spooky at this time of year.

Neither was I, but I can hardly complain after that little Phantump saved us all from a curse.

A genuine hero! He’ll always be remembered. There should be a statue.

And a parade!

Someone talk to the city board! But not right this moment, because ladies and gentlemen, it’s time… announcing our Best in Show Grand Prize winners…

Biellmann the Swanna and Killian the Zoroark, with their trainer Yuuko Nishigori!

With their amazing, elegant ballet performance of Swanna Lake! Oh, I can't BELIEVE Miss Lusamine had to leave us-- don't you think she might actually show emotion over a Beauty contestant snagging Best in Show?

Well I certainly showed emotion, that narrative had me enraptured, I tell you what... With a unique twist, even! Who needs a prince, anyway?

Not this Swanna, that’s for certain.

If a prince shows up, he can join in sweeping up all those fancy feathers, I’m sure the stagehands would appreciate his help.

There we go! And then everyone’s happy. Just like we are at the successful conclusion of our third Contest Spectacular! We had such wonderful entries this time around, and some wonderful prizes to hand out to our winners in just a moment. But first we’d like to thank each and every one of you, contestants and spectators!

Without you, there wouldn’t be a show or anyone to see it! And that would be just awful. So everyone, give us one last round of applause for all our winners, and we’ll applaud for you! Thank you, and pleasant journeys until next time!
