Well, one you don't have to. Pokemon are usually pretty good at making what they like or dislike clear despite not talking.

And two, if that's really a barrier you can't get past, there is a woman here who can talk to pokemon. She helped me a lot with my starter when I first got here. You could ask her what your pokemon think about fighting.
