--Oh, hey, it records!

[There's a pale, black-haired young woman on the network today, inspecting her new 'Gear. She has a little Noibat chilling in her mass of hair like an adorable bat-shaped barrette. She studies the Pokegear seriously for a moment or two before noticing something else:]

Oh snap, and it broadcasts! Sweet!

Hey! Barkeep guy! You were right, that Mom lady was really weird! She gave me a lot of snacks, though, so that's cool.

But, uh, I kind of. Already ate them all? Look, I got carried away, okay? Does anyone know if there's anything else to eat on, what is it, Route 29? Besides the berries, I mean. My girl here - [she gestures to her new Noibat pal] - really digs them buuuuuut I still think they seem kinda suspect. For me to eat, that is. Thanks, peeps!

Is it weird that so far no one has tried to trick me into eating the berries? It seems weird. That's a lot of nice people.

Oh yes, I understand that. You might get some jokesters that will dare you to try it, but generally speaking people try to be helpful and people who decide to try it anyway, well...the network reveals their shame. As in we see people actively tripping on mushrooms or the berries, and it's not a pretty sight.

[The bat on Marceline's head perks up when she hears that, and chitters excitedly.]

Aww, that's so nice! Thank you!

[When Botan describes the shameful public broadcasts of daredevils tripping balls, she snorts.]

You get what's coming to you, I guess. I'll be sure to keep that in mind if I ever decide to try it.

Of course, who could resist such a cutie!

[And actually she's...pretty genuine about that! She voluntarily keeps all manner of spooky ghosts around her, far be it for her to judge any other Pokemon.]

Botan's my name, I've been here for upwards of...ooh, six years now? So do feel free to ask if you need anything--I've got myself comfortably established enough.

Yeah, she is pretty cute, isn't she? She must take after me.

Nice to meet you, Botan! I guess the main things I want to know right now are, where are the good places to eat and, do you know where I can get a new bass? There's gotta be some music shops somewhere, right?

Yep, absolutely.

[She's just agreeing with it like nbd???]

Ooh so, when you make it to Cherrygrove they have a spa there, they make some wonderful spa-boiled eggs and yes I know that sounds strange but it's great. And they have some lovely sweet buns with red bean jam. Further up in Violet they've got a sandwich shop that specializes in the Slaking Sub--oh, then there's my shop in Goldenrod, I serve sweets there! But I try to have a little bit of everything.

As for music shops, you should find at least one in Violet, it's one of the bigger towns since it has a Gym. Not only that, they have the Kimono Girls performing in the theater, you can't dance without music, right?

...Should I be taking notes? I feel like I should be taking notes.

[The wording could be interpreted as sarcastic, but she's being sincere.]

I drifted around a bit this past...weekend? I'm not sure how long ago that was, but I'll be real, I'm pretty psyched to stick around and check all this out.

Sorry! I babble. [She wants to say "when she gets excited" but really? She babbles a lot, Botan's a talker, she talks, she enjoys talking.]

That happens, yes, besides visitors we always revert back to our "real" selves too--although the recollection is always fuzzy afterward. I'm glad you got to stay on as a resident, a lot of people usually come in slightly miffed afterwards.

["Miffed." More like...distressed.]

Yeaaaaah, I gotta say it's going to take a while to get used to being human again. I haven't walked this much in. Like. Ever.

Oh you weren't human before either, huh? That also seems very common--or...used to be human, then mostly not, now human again? This isn't a slighted fairy's curse sort of thing and you were furniture before, is it?

[Apparently, vampire hallmarks entirely miss her.]

That second thing you said. Not the chair thing. I'm a vampire.

Or, well, I was. Made, not born, so, you know, human childhood and all that.

What are you when you're not human?

Grim reaper, sort of, I'm--I was a spirit that guides the deceased to the afterlife.

[She's more casual about that then...she would have been a couple of years ago. Marceline is surprisingly nice and not a hellish abomination for being a vampire--but then the concept of a vampire isn't exactly the same where she's from.]

...Dang, that sounds depressing.

[A pause]

So this place can even pull non-physical entities here, huh? That's pretty wild.

The way I see it, though yes death is depressing, I'm making sure they have a friendly face guiding them so they don't get lost.

[She shrugs, her own feelings on it are very much tucked away in a little box. Death can't be reversed except in some special cases, so why dwell on it?]

What's more depressing is all the paperwork. And yes, you'll probably run into some that didn't have physical bodies before or were...not human in a different way.

[Like, robots.]

Aww, hey, I like that. And you do have a very friendly face, so I bet that works out well.

[She's just going to ignore that remark about paperwork because yeah, that sounds super depressing, and there are other, not depressing things to talk about.]

That doesn't sound like a huge deal at all. Most of my friends back home aren't human.

...Actually, none of them are except for one.

There aren't really a lot of humans back home. It's really just Finn.

Ahaha--oh gosh, that sounds like my group, it was demons, me, one half demon, and about four humans actively involved. I don't know how we managed without strangling each other sometimes.

[Well. Saving the world took slight priority over in-fighting, but let's not go down that route.]

Huh, that's cool. I haven't ever met any demons I really wanted to be friends with. They mostly stay in the Nightosphere where I'm from, and most of them are kinda jerks.

[Like her dad. :|]

How does a grim reaper get to be friends with humans, though? I'm curious now. That's usually like, two totally different worlds. And planes. The planes seem like they'd be super tricky.

Oh, the ones from my world can be too, but they're getting better at it--heck, they're actively interacting with humans now on a friendly level. I don't know if the humans really get that they're truly demons and not just cute cosplayers for some, but they're happy and I'm not going to judge.

[Nightosphere is an adorable name for something that's likely not that adorable.]

[And she actually just--bursts out laughing at that, because wow she hasn't gotten to talk about how she met Yusuke in a long time and it--]

We're really not supposed to, normal people can't even see me, but my stupid dumb idiot best friend had to go and accidentally die when he wasn't supposed to saving a kid's life--by the way, the kid would have been fine so it's not like we were just letting him die as well--and it just...ended up that way! Then suddenly we started getting a posse and were out to save the realms from chaos. While that's scary as heck it's still better than paperwork.
