CAMP ALPHA: for everyone who wanted a crossover between summercamp and Ghost Adventures

Who: Everyone who came to Camp Alph
Where: The Ruins of Alph
When: July 18th-21st
Summary: This is a log for all the camping shenanigans your heart desires! For part 2 of the event, there will be a second log to keep the ensuing seance situation separate from the all-purpose ruin-exploration adventures. Participation in part 2 will be entirely voluntary, so feel free to tag on part 1 as long as you like! For more information about this event, check out the info post over here!
Rating: PG-13
Log:

Been to the Ruins of Alph before? Are you an old hat at this stuff? Well turn everything you thought you knew UPSIDE DOWN because EVERYTHING. IS DIFFERENT NOW.

… Or at least, that’s what the flyers being passed out under a canopy of cheap Celebi balloons that are bobbing around in the breeze say.

One thing’s for sure, there sure are a lot more tents than normal. By the time most of you casuals get there, the entire picnicking area, usually quite spacious, has been turned into a small tent city. And the excited atmosphere is palpable.

The crackle of the Ruin Rangers’ walkie-talkies mingles with that of the ghost-hunting equipment toted around by excited Hex Maniacs, burbling Unown are drifting here and there to blink curiously at all the new people and Pokemon suddenly on their turf, and chatter from Legend Seekers of all ages (really, of ALL ages-- everyone from Youngsters to Veterans have apparently been swept up in the Seeker-mania!) rings out as stories and speculations are swapped.

There’s lots to do, plenty to explore, and (according to word on the grapevine), more than enough spooky rituals to perform once the night falls.

Will you solve some tile puzzles and fall into an underground chamber? Stick to the main group and make s’mores? Befriend a floating letter (or twenty-four)? Go directly against the advice of the tired-looking Rangers and play One Man Hide-and-Seek in the dark?

Or, most importantly, will you start a small-scale riot in order to keep the loud static boxes away from the tents where you’re trying to sleep?

It's over on that wall over there.

[He'll shine a flashlight over at a nearby wall covered with symbols and tiles. Then hold open his journal to show the picture. The puzzle wall is ...actually drawn pretty well. Dipper's pretty good at drawing.]

I've mostly been taking notes but I wanted to get some samples of the symbols as well. Plus it just looks really neat.

Ooh...you've rendered it really well! And it does look neat, those ancient puzzle-makers really did have a knack for aesthetics.

[Also, symbol samples are a very good idea. Has Dipper tried comparing them to the Unown?]

Oh, thanks. And yeah, they really put a lot of work into this place.

[Dipper has been! It started when he noticed some overlap between his page of sketches of the Unown and the puzzle drawings.]

I wonder if they built this place with the Unown in mind, or if this is where they found them. The information about those pokemon is really vague.
cyan_maid: (Sheepish)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2019-07-27 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps they did! Maybe they've always been in this area, so the ancient peoples here thought it'd be a good idea to make a place just for them.

[It's just a general idea, to be honest, but now that Jane's said it...she puts a hand to her chin.]

Actually, that...that's a good idea. Huh.
starry_forehead: (Looking over the journal)

[personal profile] starry_forehead 2019-07-30 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dipper thinks that over as well and nods.]

That could be. Maybe that's why there's so many puzzles. As some sort of protection for them.
cyan_maid: (Pondering...)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2019-07-30 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
But they seem to come and go just fine...so it might not be a physical protection. More like...hmmm...

[Ah now you've got her pondering, too. Let's sit here and ponder this for a moment.]
starry_forehead: (More explinations)

[personal profile] starry_forehead 2019-08-01 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Pondering time.]

Maybe. I mean it might keep some people who get scared easily out.

What are you thinking?
cyan_maid: (Oooh lookie here)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2019-08-02 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking that...maybe it's a protection against anything coming from the outside with the intent to harm the area. If that's even possible, of course. We can come in and out and the Unown can move freely because, well, we're not here to wreck anything or hurt anyone. But if anything did, there'd be some sort of retaliation set into motion.
starry_forehead: (Examine the thing)

[personal profile] starry_forehead 2019-08-03 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man. That's a really good theory.

[It's going on paper.]

So you think they can sort of sense whether or not people mean them harm? I've only read a small amount about these things.
cyan_maid: (Goodness gracious me!)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2019-08-05 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm honestly not sure! It's really just a hunch. And these fellows are all Psychic types, right? Those in particular can sense things that normal humans definitely can't.
starry_forehead: (Late night reading)

[personal profile] starry_forehead 2019-08-06 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right. Duh. That makes sense.

They seem alright with all of us being here now.
cyan_maid: (Aw shucks)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2019-08-07 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because all we're doing is sleeping in tents and roasting hot dogs. It's not like we're wrecking anything - nor would anyone want to, I think.
