There really isn't any rhyme or reason behind when people arrive here, is there?
...that "when" being both "what point in time they're plucked from", AND "the day they get slotted into this dimension". (God, time's confusing to talk about here...)
Yeah... I can imagine it'd be daunting to catch up on all that missing time. I mean, a LOT can happen in just /one/ year- even in your completely average, mundane, non-magical life.
But if it's any consolation, speaking as someone who's had to catch up before, and needs to catch up again- everybody you meet comes with a lifetime of experiences you don't know about. Becoming friends, getting to know someone to begin with, that already means getting to learn about the years you haven't been there for.
The shock might get to them at first, but once it's settled down, they shouldn't have trouble hearing out more of your years.
