We were! We even had a kid together, Steven. He's really great. Takes after Rose in a lot of ways, me in a couple others... honestly, he's got the best parts of both of us.

I used to think about it sometimes, you know? When he was a baby. How it could have been if you'd been able to be there with us. I know... I know that having a baby doesn't always solve everything... but I keep thinking we could have been happy for a little while. As a little family. Like Yellowtail and Vidalia and their kids.
[Because that's the thing, isn't it? As much as Rose had loved the idea of Steven, having him had been, on a very real level, a kind of suicide for her. And Greg... he'd made his peace about that. Rose was so very old, for all that she was as young as he'd been in some ways, so very old and tired and sad underneath it all, and if she'd wanted to die in order to make someone like Steven... she had the right to decide the way she wanted to die.
But as much as he loved his son, as much as he adored Steven and wouldn't give him up for all the world... there was a part of him that did wish he'd been enough for Rose to want to stay. That any of them had been.

Sometimes they do! And sometimes when the manager you kicked out of your van needs to make a quick buck, he sells the tune he remembers to the burger guys and then years later he gets a court order that makes him actually pay you the money he owes you for it.
I'm so happy too! Especially that she can finally meet him here!
But yeah, Steven's such a great kid. He's already sixteen and he finally got his growth spurt, so he's getting a lot taller now too.

I don't think anyone can explain 'Mom'.

She gets that way with everyone. Even if they are older than her. Even if they don't look a thing like her. She even does it with people that never had any parents. And afterwards, she seems to forget completely who you are. I mean, if you'd go back now and try to knock on her door or talk to her, she won't even acknowledge her.
I think Mom might be the biggest mystery in this world. Everything about her I mean. Why does she treat us like this? Why does everybody arrive in her cottage? Is she the one who gives us our first pokemon or are those already present when we arrive there? It's a lot of questions and I don't think anyone has the answers.
