She's a siren. Much more powerful then me and she was also one of the vault hunters before my team. Her, Roland, Brick and Mordecai. She's the leader of our group, The Crimson Raiders. She...took over from Roland after Jack murdered him.

From what I've heard yeah. He was at a low level at Hyperion and he didn't gain total power till after that mission. Athena had cut all ties with him long before Lilith went to find her. He wasn't utterly mad for power yet. ...Angel was still... well no one knew about her then. So I can't really hold that against Athena.
