runicfeathers: (I'd rather set YOU on fire)

Video 01

[There's audible frustration as you hear swearing and the pokegear clatter to the ground. (Bear with her, this is still new for her as her world used magic devices as their communication tech.) Once it's picked up and she dusts it off, she lets out a huff of embarrassment before turning the camera feature towards the Fletchling on her shoulder, and then to her own face, pointed ears poking out of her hair.]

As you must now already all be aware, I've little knowledge of this place! A curse it must be to be found in this place without your powers, and then find you've become a mortal like all the natives, how insulting!

[A brief pause before shaking her head, stopping herself before she starts cursing the ancients of Tharcia and going on a tirade about how Rivaersa unfairly cursed her, stripping her of her Phoenix powers.]

But no matter, 'tis unimportant. What draws my attention is that all here seem to be gifted in Beastmastery... how curious, that's a rare gift in my home, a gift by bloodline and tribe in fact. Are all in this place of the same ancestors or family lines? Or do these creatures have a friendlier disposition than most beasts? This one on my shoulder here, whom I've decided to name 'Nova', calls herself a "Fletchling" and says she's going to be my companion as I "train" her to become stronger. Is this what those beasts here are all called, Fletchling?

AND WHAT IS WITH THIS AWFUL NOISE PLAYING NON-STOP?

Forgive me if I misunderstood you but... your pokemon told you?

[There are... a lot of other questions to answer, yes, but Armin can't help but stumble over that mention. Mentally, at least! There might be a few pokemon capable of psychic speech, but he has never heard of a Fletchling being capable of it.]

Not really, no. There are certain types of pokemon that can communicate with people, generally psychic pokemon or ones with very strong latent psychic abilities.

[Armin can talk with his Lapras, but that took a long time to establish.]

But other than that, people can't really talk to pokemon. You learn to understand them, of course, when you have worked with them for a long time, but it's never as clear as direct speech. It's more of a body language thing.

Well, if you have any questions, I could try and answer them. I've been in this world for several years now.

[He won't say he knows everything, but he does know about a lot of the most basic things people wonder about when they first arrive.]

The stores in town are your best bet for food. Those and the markets. They come down pretty strictly on anyone who hunts pokemon like that, but even if you could somehow avoid detection, as far as I am aware, pokemon are inedible. To us, at least.

You can find things like nuts and fruits out in the open, but you should watch out for the berries. Some are perfectly fine to eat, but there are also several of them that can't be digested by humans. The effects are... not pretty.

To be absolutely honest, I'm not sure if anyone really knows. Meat is sold in stores and it tastes the same as any meat I've had before [Better even.] Personally, I don't believe it comes from non-pokemon animals. You'd see some trace of those out in the wild, but there aren't any as far as I can tell. Which means the meat is either from pokemon that are slaughtered in a particular way that makes the meat edible to humans, in the same way you might have to skin a poisonous creature in a certain way, or, uhm, I'll admit I'm not really very educated about this particular field, but I once talked with someone who said it is possible for scientists to produce meat in laboratories.

You'll have to ask a man called Egon about the specifics. I really don't know more about it than that.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of magic does exist in your world? The world I come from doesn't really have any sort of magic [Except titan magic but that is. Ugh.] so this topic is really fascinating to me.

[Oh Willow, you know not what floodgates you open.]

Can everybody in your world practise magic? Or is it something that is limited to only certain people?

[That is how things had been in Mr Newt's world.]

[Armin is absolutely drinking it all in. Give him all the history and magic lessons!]

Are there many like you. Beings of magic, that is?
