one; video/action for new bark town
video;
[ The first thing the video shows is not a face. Rather, it's a blue-looking mess of fabric, scraping back and forth across the screen. When it pulls back, it's shown to be a sleeve - specifically, one used to clean off the spit Minato's brand-new Gastly had decided to coat his screen with.
Because that's what you do. You lick things when you don't know what they are. He looks up at his Gastly with a tired expression. It cackles, then goes back to floating around and taking in the sights. ]
...hi. [ He pauses, long enough to make it seem like he's done. Minato looks away from the screen to the town around him: small, quaint, but peaceful. ] It looks like a lot of people arrived here...and they all got these new animals.
[ Or Shadows, as far as he's concerned. Still, having not left yet, nothing has attacked him. Just...licked him, pushing some of his blue bangs back off his face to reveal both eyes. ]
My name's Minato. Is this...supposed to happen?
action;
[ Is that good enough? That's good enough. He shuts off the video with a sigh and looks around again, stuffing his hands and device in his pockets.
Not only is this not his first visit to a new dimension, it's not even his first visit this month. Rather than worried or scared, he just looks tired. Glancing around provides him with a bench, just near the Pokemon Lab; he saunters over there and drops down, slouching into the seat.
On cue, his stomach gurgles. He sets a hand over it and frowns briefly. ]
...wonder if there's burgers around here.

[ Basch said, seeming a little relaxed to speak. ]
The first animal you have gotten is to help you find and train others. It is how... this land works.

[ Not that summoning fractures of your own psyche to fight for you is any more normal. Still. ]
Do we have to?
It looks like it. Though we all got different ones. It makes me wonder what they used to pick them.
[Is it random? Luck? Based on some particular qualities or personality?]
no subject
Yeah...it could just be random. What did you get?
no subject
Armin releases Amadeus from its poke ball --do pokemon get lost, he hadn't wanted it to get lost-- and the little hoothoot settles happily onto Armin's shoulder once it has... sorta... come into being again.
(pokeballs, how do they work?)]
Mine is called a Hoothoot. It's a flying / normal type apparently.
[Why yes, he has been reading up.]
no subject
[ He raises a hand to wave at the owl. Near his right shoulder, his Gastly gives a cheerful gas gas! of his own. ]
Does that suit you?
no subject
I'm not sure if I know enough yet to tell.
[Ever the cautious one. Still the question has piqued his curiosity.]
Do you feel yours fits you?
What are you asking about, the Pokémon, the whole waking up in some unknown location with someone calling themselves your mom, the music. I'm not sure any of it's supposed to happen, but it does happen a lot.
no subject
It's his total opposite. But still... ]
...I think so.
no subject
[ A little bow to the camera. He thinks a second on that question. Worryingly, he'd taken "mom" as read. Just another weird person who appeared out of nowhere and knew him intimately.
You ever realise just how weird your life actually is? ]
All of it. But at least I'm not alone in it.
no subject
It's a lot, but people and your Pokémon will help you. I haven't been here long, but everyone seems really helpful and friendly. Or at least almost everyone.
no subject
[ It's weird and suspicious and he doesn't like it. ]
'Almost'?
no subject
no subject
That sounds nice.
I'm Armin. I'm new to this place too.
no subject
[ Super formal. He dips his head a bit, then relaxes back into his usual chilled slouch. ]
Did you already leave town, Armin-san?
no subject
[ That sounds suspicious. Like some final antagonist for later in the plot. He frowns, looking away from the camera, and files that away for later pondering. ]
Yeah. But if most people are, that's fine. [ Hmm. He looks back at the camera, pushing his hair briefly out of his eyes. ] How are you finding it?
no subject
[ At least the weird shadow children had just been his problem before. This was totally out of his wheelhouse. He sighs softly, raising a hand. ]
Thanks. Gastly's friendly, at least.
no subject
Not yet. Me and Jean are planning to set out soon.
[They had stayed here for a little bit, just to make sure they were prepared and that no one else they knew was around, but they are kind of running out of things to do here. There are a lot of questions Armin still wants answered and he doesn't think he is going to find the answers here.]
no subject
Good luck. I might stay and gather more information first.
no subject
Can I ask you something. When you... arrived here, were you by yourself? I mean, was anyone you know there too?
no subject
[ The proper answer would be 'yes'. Usually, there's a spirit in his head - his Persona - riding shotgun in his psyche. That is...not gone, exactly, but sealed away. He can't hear Orpheus like he usually does.
But that wasn't the question. The question was real people. He nods after another moment's thought. ]
Yeah. It's just me.
no subject
[Realising these questions might be just a tad invasive]
Ah, I'm just-- I thought if there was some common thread in all our experiences, it might explain why we were brought here. And how.
no subject
[ He'd been pondering along the same lines, just not...actually asking anyone. Save for his 'mom', these video calls were the first conversations he'd had at all in this place. ]
Everything was mostly normal. I think I just woke up here.
no subject
[Or, you know, it could be completely random and without reason, but Armin doesn't like the idea of that.]
If you remember anything at all...
no subject
no subject
Thank you. And good luck when you set out.
No, that's not right at all, you're supposed to get a lunch too, zura!
no subject
[ A meal like that never had a chance against the inheritor of the Gourmet King title. ]
no subject
M-MONGE!!
[Aren't those lunches supposed to last you until you get to Cherrygrove? Okay, maybe lasting the whole trip is a stretch, but they certainly help a little. If he ate it all now...]
That makes sense, zura! N-Now you won't go hungry during the trip to the next city, zura!! I'm kinda jealous, you're gonna save so much time, zura...
[That's probably how food works.]
no subject
Y-yeah...maybe. I guess I was pretty hungry before.
no subject
no subject
He looks back and nods. ]
Mm. It'll be fun once I get on the road and meet more.
no subject
Yeah, there are a bunch between there and Cherrygrove. Also it's a three day hike to the next city...so hope you like camping.
no subject
[ Cry. There won't even be fast food outlets on that trail! ]
no subject
It's not a bad hike. [If that helps at all.] And the city you end up in is really nice. It has a spa and a diner.
no subject
Ah...a diner?
[ Food senses: activated. ]

But the diner was first place I went once I got into Cherrygrove, after meeting my friends, of course. We all ordered different things and shared. I think I liked the cheeseburger best, but their pancakes were really good. They also have a bunch of milkshake flavors. [It's not really that many compared to other places, but like she said, she has no frame of reference.] I got chocolate and added strawberries to it.
But really everything was good.
no subject
[ And it all sounds so good...had he not just stuffed himself with his packed lunch, his stomach might growl. ]
I'll have to get there really soon. Are you still with your friends?
