(Closed) Malleus and Deuce go shopping

[Malleus has been on an adventure with Deuce Spade, and even though he’s not used to calling the other by his first name yet, it’s been fun. His own Pokémon has grown stronger, learning more moves, and becoming friendlier with Deuce and his Pokémon.

They had been in Cherrygrove city for a few days, and Deuce, being the one used to shopping and just general non magical things, had offered to do all the necessary arrangements for their travel. Malleus had been comfortable with the way things were, but... he was curious.

Deuce was going to go shopping soon, for supplies for their trip to Violet city, and Malleus wanted to learn how to do the things Deuce did, specially when it came go being helpful. So, before the human (well, they’re technically both human now, weren’t they?) goes to leave, Malleus puts Gum down from his lap and stands up.]

Deuce, would it be ok to accompany you to do the shopping?

Oh, I'm pretty used to doing that...

[ Of course, that's because his mom was the one making the shopping decisions, so his contribution was carrying the groceries.

It always felt better, being able to help. In that case, he shouldn't deny Malleus that. ]

Alright, can you grab one of those baskets there? It should be enough to carry what we need.

[tsunotarou]

[Malleus nods, and does as told. The baskets are really light, and he wonders for a moment if it'll break with all the stuff they will put in it.

He's ready to follow and hold anything for Deuce though, because he's going to be useful today!]

[pursuit]

[ With the basket secured, Deuce points toward a nearby aisle. ]

We'll start over there, they've got soap and toothpaste on sale. Shampoo too, I'm pretty sure.

[ And it never hurts to stock up while prices are low. ]

[tsunotarou]

[Malleus nods, walking behind Deuce to get the mentioned things. He looks at the soap collection and raises an eyebrow.]

How do I know which one we want?

[pursuit]

There'll be signs that point out the ones on sale, like... [ As they make their way down the aisle, he spots the little brightly-colored tags on the shelves and taps one with his finger. ] Like this here. You could pick whichever kind you want when it's marked like this.

[tsunotarou]

Got it.

[He looks at the shelves, and sees the sticker in many of them, so when he finds one that looks like it'll taste good, for the toothpaste at least, he picks it up, inspecting the packaging.]

This one seems good.

[pursuit]

Okay, then in the basket it goes.

[ It's clear Malleus is giving careful thought to his selection, and that this is his first time on a shopping trip for mundane little things like this.

Maybe he doesn't need to say it, but he hopes it'll encourage Malleus to make selections without concern. ]

You've got good judgement, and you know what you'd like better than I would.

[Malleus blushes slightly, and then looks down the aisle. There's some other things they need, like soap for bathing. He walks to it, and looks for the sale items. They seem to be less than the toothpaste, but he finds it, and then when he's about to grab one, he notices the numbers in the stickers are different.

One is lower than the other, and he wonders why that is. If it's on sale, it means it costs less, right? So he looks at the smaller numbered shelf and picks one up. It's a green coloured soap on the box, and he smiles. Green's a good colour.]

How many soaps do we need?

[pursuit]

Three or four should keep us stocked for a while.

[ They have to balance being well-supplied with what they can carry, after all. With Malleus being changed into...is he human now, or made to look that way? In any case, those alterations may have affected his strength and would take adjusting to.

Better that they pack a reasonable load, rather than picking up too much. The next town shouldn't be so far off that four bars of soap would be exhausted, he thinks. ]

[Malleus nods, and picks a couple of one colour, and two more on a different one. Variety!]

What now?

[He really needs to learn how to do all these humans things, specially now that he technically is one. Mostly to help out Deuce, but also, it's giving him a weird kind of pleasure to be able to do this kind of shopping.

Without Sebek and Silver who always do things for him,Malleus has to fend for himself, and it's different but fun.]

[pursuit]

Shampoo and conditioner next... Since it's cold, the air gets pretty dry, so lotion too.

[ Toiletries, food items, and some cold weather provisions had been his primary focus. With those things in place, they can travel a bit more comfortably than they might otherwise. ]

Antiperspirant as well. It's all down this aisle, probably, so we can just work our way down.

[tsunotarou]

Understood.

[He walks down the aisle, muttering to himself what he has to look for, and inspecting every item with the sticker that depicts a sale, comparing scents and sizes. When he gets everything but the lotion, he smiles at Deuce.]

I got it all, except the lotion doesn't seem to be here.

[pursuit]

It might be in another aisle... Want to take a look?

[ Deuce isn't the slightest bit surprised that Malleus takes to these tasks as easily as he does. Of course it's fairly straightforward, but even so, Diasomnia does model itself after the Thorn Witch's elegance.

It's no surprise then that Malleus makes it look effortless. ]

Yes, let me.

[He turns to go down the next aisle, looking at the bottles and containers until he finds one that says lotion. He looks at the bottles around it and finds one without scent.]

Scentless seems like the best option.

[pursuit]

Oh, I-

[ He didn't mean to send Malleus off to fetch something on his own. Is that okay, when he's the head of a dorm and what's more, a prince?

Deuce doesn't have long to debate before Malleus returns. ]

Yeah, scentless is good. Sometimes the other stuff can irritate your skin.

[tsunotarou]

Got it.

[He takes the scented cream and puts it back on the shelf. He grabs the scentless one he likes the most and then waits for Deuce to catch up to him.]

Anything else?

[pursuit]

In here, let's see...

[ Deuce looks over his list with a thoughtful hum. ]

We could pick up some snacks while we're here. Protein bars, stuff like that. Easy to carry and won't spoil.

[tsunotarou]

Good idea. I think I saw something that looked like snacks while we entered the store. [And most importantly.] There was also a small fridge.

[He wonders, then, if they could get ice cream. It's a bit chilly outside, but ice cream is always good.]

How about you pick the snacks? I think I might not be able to pick something we would both like.

[pursuit]

You don't want to choose together? I might not know what you'd prefer either.

[ Sure, he's tried to pay attention to what Malleus chooses for himself, but it's not exactly the same as knowing someone's tastes well.

Over time, he hopes he'll know better, but for now... ]

I bet it'd be easier with both of us.

[tsunotarou]

Good idea.

[To the snack aisle!

It's not very big, but there's variety, and Malleus looks at it as if he were looking at an exam.]

There's so many...

[pursuit]

Yeah, there are... But that means we can have our pick.

[ There are plenty of promotions here too, colorful signs indicating 2-for-1 or buy two, get one free. Considering they have a long trip ahead, they can certainly use those deals. ]

This jerky's a good deal. Do you like that kind of stuff?

[tsunotarou]

I have never had any jerky.

[What a confession! He looks at the bags and raises an eyebrow.]

What about some chocolate?

[pursuit]

What, really? We're getting some then.

[ Into their basket goes the jerky. ]

There's chocolate covered dried fruit...that'd hold up pretty well on the road.

[tsunotarou]

[Malleus is surprised at how fast Deuce put the jerky in the basket, but he smiles at the mention of fruits.]

I like that. Do you think our pokémon can eat it?

[pursuit]

Hm... Looks like these ones use berries...

[ Deuce picks up a package to show Malleus. ]

It even says "a treat pokémon love to eat" right on there.
