He's really not sure what to do about this. Apologizing isn't really something they do. Usually there's just whining and sulking and refusing to budge on whatever it was they'd done, at least to each other. The urge to say something intensely sarcastic like "I'll say" or "that's new" is nigh-overwhelming, but...hm.
