There is naught that is entirely certain, and even our senses can lie to us, our perceptions are constantly skewed, and at the end of it all we must make due with that which is available--yet, to deny a possibility because of an absence of evidence or personal experience to draw from... That is what I would name foolish.
You need not be paralyzed by indecision, rather, you should embrace another option: that you simply do not know. When you posit a stance with feeble evidence, you seem more the fool than I know you are. However, should you embrace the mere fact you do not know, there is no shame in that.
You are a mortal, as you admitted. Your knowledge and ability are severely limited, but to attend a metaphorical battle without a weapon does no one any favors, least of all you.
As for the ghosts, many of them were once human--purportedly. I think they are closer to human than you believe, and their state of being is ripe with valuable information. Do not overlook them so readily.
