Hmm, I didn't see bleeding. But a lemon with spikes makes just as little sense.

It kind of looks like a claw? I don't know. Anyway, lemons are associated with hard times and bad luck, I guess. Like, "when life gives you lemons...", you know?

Lemons are usually a symbol of bitterness and disappointment. As much I appreciate- [Sure, let's call it that.] -your interpretation, however, I'm not convinced that's a lemon, my friend. I'd put my coin on an eye.

I guess that could fit since it was bad luck seeing them show up and try to take the egg the temple was protecting. And after all the work we did! Lemon Cult isn't as bad as Rockets though... yet.

Not counting the obvious reading of injury, crying tears of blood is usually related to either religious symbolism or possession by demons and the like. I will grant it to you, though, I didn't think of it as tears, my first thought was those marks were eyelashes. Now we know it's a cult of some kind, your idea of it being blood does make good sense.

There's a superstition, sanpaku, back home where you can tell your fate by the shape of your eyes. It's also been a symbol of life, death, intelligence/wisdom, a gateway into the soul, etc. It really depends on the culture.
