44th Recipe [Video, Goldenrod City]

[Y'all, it's been a Time.

It has just been...a lot, lately. Underwater temples, getting trapped in underwater temples, fighting off weird culty people who burst into underwater temples...Jane needs a break. It's September. No one can fault her for gearing up for spooky season a little early if it makes her feel better. So, while it may be a hot day, she's still in the kitchen of the Fletcher Gym, scraping out the insides of roasted kabocha squash.

Bet you didn't know that kitchen was functional, did you.]

I think there's another one of those swarms going on.

[It's said wearily, and with a sense of "I don't think it, I know it" to the words.]

Had to run from a whole darned squad of Teddiursa today...they wanted my pumpkins. Why is it always the goshdang pumpkins they want? [Her scraping becomes a little more forceful.] Or - squashes, sorry, these aren't the pumpkins I grew up with. But - but always the gourds! First at home, now here...

[Finished with this part of the rind, she sets it aside. A sparkly Grimer hand reaches into frame to take it. Yes, she brought Gertrude with her today.]

Ugh, maybe I'm looking into it too hard.

[She sighs. Rubs her face, her eyes.]

I'm. Making muffins with this stuff. So if you want some, and you're in the Goldenrod area, come by and you get a muffin. No strings attached. I'll be here until about four o'clock, and challenges are slow today, so...screw it, why not make muffins. Right? Or I can send them to you, it's no trouble. Really.

[A pause, and Jane picks up her 'gear to reveal a whole pile of squat, green pumpkins. At least two or three large tote bags' worth. Honey you ran from a pack of Teddiursa with all this???]

Not that being accommodating in and of itself is a problem, nay, but you really ought to allow those whom would take advantage of your generosity to, at the very least, put in a little effort for their bounty.

With that being said, mayhap I would enjoy one of your muffins, I have heard naught but unmitigated praise of your baking from Dirk, after all.

Muffins are made from those? I thought muffins were sweet...

Anyway, bears are omnivores and eat all sorts of vegetation. Maybe Teddiursa do, too.

[I got my hands full today, I really do, in all real fucking honesty I really shouldn't be faffing about on the network at all, but....

There is no amount of nefarious technological development or cinematic post-production work in the worlds that could keep me from Jane Crocker's fresh-baked anything. The conditions would need to be donwright apocalyptic.

I gotta lean back to catch my camera, though--I had to shuffle some monitors around earlier and I didn't bother to move the little clip-on.]

So, hypothetically speaking, if I Teleported in and took a muffin, and you didn't see it, but then I come by later and you do see me, I get two muffins?

[Like yeah obviously they wanna eat a sweet treat, but. Jane is nice, and she looks very tired right now, so they should help. Right?]

If you don't mind sending some out to the Sevii Islands, I'd take some muffins.

[Gobo's not one to turn down free food-- But that isn't why he actually responded here. Jane looks so tired, and he's just hoping he can maybe, somehow, help.]

[Internally huffs, god! Yeah she is kinda done with Dirk's very odd friend Mr Galvus but this is actually more tolerable than being stuck in a temple with him.]

You're very welcome to one, of course. It's the process that makes me feel better, and frankly, I wouldn't want them to go to waste just because I wanted to bake something.

Oh! Sure, that's not a problem. I can pack some up and send them out.

[She's. Going to have so many.]

I'm fine, just tired. It's been...eventful, lately. Not that it usually isn't, but in this case I think I just bit off a bit more than I could chew.

She sighs, a rueful smile appearing when she responds. She may be a bit worn out on Strider Shenanigans for some time, but like. You don't not respond to a friend.]

Why, I suppose if I didn't catch you, then you would get two muffins. But I'm sure I'd be frazzled at the idea of other pumpkin-adjacent products going missing. Again. I could also just give you two muffins from the start.

[He's quiet for a moment after that, before her nods with a soft hum.]

The attempted egg-napping was rough, assuming that's what you mean? At least it all worked out... But I get how just knowing people would want to separate a child Pokemon from their parent-- It's upsetting.

[He brushes a hand up through his hair, pulling a little at the end of the gesture in his frustration.]

Sorry, I guess that doesn't help much. It just really makes me mad, you know?

It depends on the gourd, but these are a kind I've had here, and they can be sweet. They're actually quite nice! And you put sugar in the batter anyway.

[Maybe Jane should be using a gourd she's more familiar with, but these lil green ones are in season, so.]

...Yeah, that tracks, I suppose. Then again, a fair amount of Pokemon seem omnivorus, too...

[Korra's been around for a while, Jane likely at least knows her tangentally. It's how it happens sometimes. Pidgey Post, at least, never fails to get to where it needs to go, so she's not too worried about the muffins being lost in the mail.]

Mm, that's definitely part of it. [It's hard to think what her response to everyone's efforts leading towards an egg would be, had those weirdos not busted in to try and take it. Considering the temple's response to her trying to bring a breastplate back from its depths, she likely would have argued to leave it be if only so they wouldn't all be trapped inside.]

[Gobo sighs deeply, shaking his head again. This isn't about what upsets him right now, it's about her. He's learned to be the kind of friend who's there for others over the years, and now's a time to put that to use.]

Do you want to talk about it...? I know I'm a stranger, but sometimes it's easier to talk to someone new about rough things. If you wanted.

I suppose I've always thought of gourds as a vegetable. I'll take your word on it, though. I certainly don't bake.

That does seem to be the case. I swear some of mine will eat anything.

I'm around the area, but it may take me a few hours to get there. I don't think I've ever had a muffin that had a string attached to it, though, so if you have those I'm interested to at least see.

[Good news: Grant and the squad of Femblems are aware of Chip's inclination to run all the way to another country. It really is a good thing that Kanto and Johto are relatively safe, and also Chip is surrounded by super powerful monsters that will raise hell if anything happens to them.]

[Still, Dimitri can't help but be concerned as he sees Jane state... and then his eyebrows rise slightly as he sees what she had to work with.]

I respected you already as a dear friend and talented gym leader, Jane, but I must admit I was not aware of the pure strength in your upper body. From what I understand, gourds are often rather heavy.

[Not that. He never really noticed before.]

I do have two hands and a nervous system perfectly designed for carrying two muffins and conveying them directly to my mouth.

Well, that's true, yet you could still sell them. At the very least make back that which you spent upon the ingredients.

Honestly, I am quite surprised you have not turned such a passion into a profession. Then you could bake to your heart's content, worrying not about waste. Though I am sure you care little for such advice, and so I will leave it at that.

[But he will be coming by to try one of those muffins once their little conversation ends.]

Well, yes, of course I could do that. I just don't feel like it.

[Others had once set up shop with their own bakeries - back then, she hadn't wanted to step on anyone's toes. Now, she has her own thing going on, and charging for baked goods (unless it was a bake sale or something similar) just feels like it's adding another thing to her workload. Maybe if she were younger, and the opportunity were still there...and if there was any point to establishing a branch of Crockercorp in another world, maybe. But it hasn't shaken out that way.]

I had been set to inherit a veritable baked goods empire, back home, but it wasn't exactly in the cards, or all that I thought it was to begin with.

They usually fall over each other in the attempt, and by the time I get there after hearing the commotion, they're in the middle of enjoying the spoils of their efforts. I can kind of guess where anything missing had gone from that.

Huh? Oh, it's not so hard. These're tiny.

[Jane they're still a lot of pumpkins.]

I'm not nearly as strong as my Dad would've wanted, though - I distinctly remember he was prepared to congratulate me should I prove I could lift the refrigerator over my head.

That's fine, if I'm out I'll make sure to leave some at the front for anyone who stops by.
Hm, a string? I don't...think these have strings in them...
