[Closed] Muffled saturday morning cartoon theme in the distance
Who: Izuku Midoriya and Jinx
Where: Olivine
When: Early January
Summary: Izuku and Jinx meet up while Izuku's travel group recouperates from the holidays in Olivine
Rating: PG
Log:
[The past holidays have marked Izuku's very first away from home, and honestly? So much has been going on outside of the festivities that it sort of passes by in a blur. Between the situation with Katsuki, and the flurry of secret gift-giving via the Delibird, it's nice to just be somewhere for a while. The travel train had been non-stop until Katsuki's recent return home had put on the breaks until further notice, making it more of a necessity than anything, but Izuku realized once they'd been there a while that they probably all needed a breather. Even Katsuki, who had been getting huffy about being forced to rest even just moments after he'd woken up.
Inbetween all of that, though, Izuku had somehow found the time to gather presents for as many people as he could afford to. All of his classmates were included of course, but a few that he'd met during his tenure in Johto had made the list as well. Including a particular someone he hasn't gotten to speak to in person for some time that had arranged to meet up while Izuku was still in town. Thank god for the warps, really.
While the Pokecenter was an ideal place for them to meet up straight away, Izuku had opted instead to wait for her at one of the seaside cafe's. It's a bit chilly to be at an outdoor cafe, but Olivine was still one of the warmest climates people could retreat to in the winter, so it's not as bad as it could be. That, and this particular establishment had a few fire-type Pokemon assisting in keeping things warm, such as the litwick and lampent occupying each table. Izuku...kindof could almost blend in with the Eevee in his lap currently with the winter-gear he's decked out in, because it seems like his friends were bound and determined to make sure he looked like an Eevee before they were all done. Even the hood of his jacket has ears on it...
Well, at least he's hard to miss???]

( and frankly, she wasn't really... allowed to help with that sort of thing, unless it was treating herself. not before this world, anyways. that's just the way it goes. no one wants a jinx making such important health procedures worse, after all.
anyways.
that's... unsettling information. did she get new injuries or anything when she had her... update? not enough to draw panic, apparently, but. hm. maybe she should keep a better eye on her literal mid-war soldier family, in case things happen again. carefully, she pets ranger's head. )
I can imagine. I'm sorry I didn't check up on that sooner. How's everyone holding up?

It's okay, I couldn't have expected you to. I was barely able to keep up with everything else that was going on as it is. Kacchan's doing okay though...he's basically still his normal self.
[You know, being grumpy and hating that he's had to be bedridden even for a few days.]
It kindof did put into perspective for me how quickly things can change, though. It feels like only yesterday that I came here, but...it's almost been a year now.

( jinx trails off, quiet and lost in thought. ... grief, if izuku can recognize it. for as blank-faced jinx can be, she also wears her heart on her sleeve. she came to this world with a boy her age, just as lost. and now she's still here, and he's not. )
... I'm glad to hear he's doing okay.

Well. It feels like it's been...almost forever, somehow.]
Yeah, me too.
[Izuku pauses for a moment, not wanting to just abruptly backflip away from the tension that's been generated but instead allowing it to settle for a moment before he speaks again.]
It also made me realize that I should be more thankful for the friends I have here. Not just from home, but people like you, Dimitri-san, Louie-kun...it's not just Kacchan who could go home and have something scary happen to him.
[He doesn't know the ins and outs of the lives of everyone here, after all. He can only speculate...and some are definitely harsher than most.]

( they were lupical, so they focused on the immediate future for the most part- aside from a long-since-abandoned plan to spend the winter in the tropics. she hasn't touched the savings for that yet. )
He's tough, and smarter than people give him credit for so I want to believe he'll be okay. But... there's no knowing, is there? Not unless he comes back.
But now it's like... what if you're gone one day? Or Dimitri and Felix?

But having dealt with it so recently means that Izuku can't just ignore it anymore.]
I know. Even if you know they're strong enough to make it on their own, it's hard not knowing. Having to go back to a life that's worse than one here is no better.
[Even if you're not...you know, dead.
Izuku leans back a bit in his chair, toying with the zipper on his jacket.]
I miss home, don't get me wrong. But Johto has become kindof...a second home in a way.

I don't ever want to go back. And I don't want to lose anyone else, either. Maybe it's selfish.
( she's a hero now. izuku is too. dimitri, claude and felix are nobility, in the middle of a war. and yet... she glances off to the side, taking in the cold scenery. she's always been a selfish, greedy girl. this is no different. )

[The words leave his mouth before he can stop them, but...it's true. Or, well...Izuku doesn't think it's so bad to be selfish, in this context. Because sure, maybe at its root it is...but it's not a bad thing.]
I don't want to lose what I have here either, as much as I miss my family and friends back home. And I wish there was some kind of way that the two could just be...
[He puts his hands together, twisting his fingers idly.]
Together. People in my world are capable of making so many unbelievable things happen...so two universes existing at the same time isn't such a far off idea.
no subject
( but for the first time in her life she has a choice in what she wants to be. if the two worlds were to bridge somehow- she'd have to go back to "jinx the new hero" and "jinx the former thief" and just- ugh. maybe for izuku it'd be better. maybe not. )
... Sorry, I know this all sounds. A lot.
no subject
No, it...it's okay. I mean...I really don't mind talking about it.
[It IS a lot, but it does also make sense that it's coming up. It's been a while since they've seen each other, so naturally things are just coming to the surface that probably would have eventually.]
It's just a little...sad, I guess. It feels like you can never really feel like you're having any peace.
