"I thought maybe this one could be climbed..."
He definitely sounds a fair bit put out about it.
"I've climbed lots of things before, but these ones are weird. You can go down them but you can't climb up..."
He'd try again, but he's pretty sure it won't work. Also, he doesn't want to get his cloak any dirtier than necessary, it had been a gift, after all!
