Not close enough to be reckless (mostly), but as close as someone who does hero work daily would be expected to. He crouches, just for a moment, until it's clear to see what it is he's doing: he's allowing his Umbreon to jump up onto his back, using it as a platform to race across before making it to his shoulder, then his forarm all in one fluid, graceful motion. San uses his momentum to leap off Izuku's shoulders in a high enough arc that the Shadow Ball he attacks with has the highest chance of making a direct hit.
While Rizadi lacks offensive long-range moves, he has the bulk to withstand anything that bird should throw at them, should it decide to take the offense closer to the ground. That's why, for the time being, Izuku has him focus on status afflictions.
