Oh no, they're not causing anything close to all of it. It's just that they're a lot closer to eldritch monsters than, say, any of the Fairy-type Pokémon here. And while some of them know very well what they're doing, a not insignificant number of them... don't. They're attracted to art, and music, and stories, but they don't necessarily get them, and that often goes badly for the people they kidnap.
