There's possibly a comparison or contrast to be made between experiencing that kind of loss when relatively young, versus experiencing it when older and far more established and settled in one's life, but even if Geddoe wanted to talk about his personal life, he's definitely not the type to try to see who had it worse. Especially since complaining and having a pity party doesn't exactly fix anything, now does it?

In any case though, it sounds like the kid at least gets the gist of what he's saying. Good. Geddoe's not one to lecture people on their life choices most the time, but that doesn't mean he's without opinions about it. If this kid can pull his crap together, then that's better than the alternative.

"It's up to you to decide, anyway." Geddoe doesn't think he did all that much beyond spelling out how the world works.

Also, he could really use a drink.
