How many pokéballs would it take to fill a 36-cubic-metre ball pit?

They're such a treat when you're young, aren't they? The joy of hiding beneath colorful balls, popping out to scare your friends... Pokémon should get to try it once, too.

[crystalmaster]

Yeah....

[Radley smiles, remembering the few times he got to enjoy them.]

Well, it's a really cool idea, but it'll take a lot of Pokeballs to fill it. It might be cheaper to get bags of the soft balls that are usually used, if they make those here.

[captainash]

The few local companies that rent ball pits do have options to rent the balls too, actually. And if someone else's math is correct it'd be a lot cheaper too. But maybe they can paint them to look like pokéballs?

[crystalmaster]

That sounds like the best option, then.

[Radley always looks for ways to save money.]

I wouldn't be surprised if some of them would do that! It would probably cost extra, but it wouldn't hurt to look into it.

I doubt it's more expensive than buying hundreds of thousands of extra pokéballs, extra or not. And with any luck, they can even include ball models that are usually difficult to purchase.

[crystalmaster]

Probably. And oh yeah, that would be cool. I've seen some of those more unique styles. I wonder if they really work like the ads claim.

I'd like to think they wouldn't be allowed to advertise them if they didn't work properly, but I haven't actually tested them. But people would still buy them just for their looks, probably.

[crystalmaster]

That's an interesting thought: Pokeball Collectors. I wonder if there's really people like that here. Back home people collect stamps and coins.

[Radley's usually skeptical of things until he tries them himself, but he hasn't heard bad press about the various Pokeballs, which is encouraging.]

Are there enough types for a proper collection? Between the regular stores and Kurt's little atelier, there's about twenty or so, as far as I know. Of course, there may also be pokéball variants that are far more exclusive, expensive and rare, but you'd think people would brag about having them.

[crystalmaster]

Twenty is a good beginning. There probably are variants, or ones with manufacturing defects and that kinda thing. Maybe there's people like that who collect them and we just haven't run into them yet. I wonder how long Pokeballs have been used. They're pretty high-tech, so it doesn't seem like they would have always existed.

[captainash]

Oh, manufacturing defects, I hadn't thought of that. The more stringent the quality control, the more they can in value. Add to that the antique models, maybe even the variants exclusive to other countries... The number does build up quickly.

[crystalmaster]

Oh, that's a cool thought! I hadn't considered maybe other regions had their own styles. I wonder if there's any of the first Pokeballs in existence, like in a museum or something.

[captainash]

Haven't seen any pokéballs in Pewter's museum, at the very least, but that could be because it wouldn't fit its theme.

[crystalmaster]

Is that a rock and mineral museum?

[captainash]

There's plenty of those, yes, but also local artifacts, fossils, and even a section dedicated to genetics.

[crystalmaster]

That sounds fascinating. I'll have to check it out if I'm ever over that way.

It's definitely worth the trip. Plenty of restaurants have opened nearby, too, so it's easy to relax with a good meal after spending the whole afternoon looking at the exhibits.

[crystalmaster]

Cool. I've heard Kanto is overall more urban than Johto. Maybe I can take time to explore after my Rookidee evolves.

[captainash]

It's more modern, in a way. Sometimes to its detriment, considering they transformed their main cemetery into a radio tower. Still, it's worth a thorough visit.

[crystalmaster]

Yeah, I heard about that. That is pretty off-the-wall. It sounds like something my rival would have done back home. I wonder if the tower's haunted. I can't imagine the ghosts liked the move.

[captainash]

On the one hand, I've never heard anything about ghosts in the tower. On the other hand, that's the kind of thing they probably wouldn't want to admit if it happened. Bad optics and all that.

[crystalmaster]

I can't blame them for that. If I had a situation like that and it would affect my business, I probably wouldn't wanna mention it either ... unless it'd actually be dangerous for people if I didn't.

[captainash]

Oh, I can think of plenty of people who would hide it even if it was dangerous, even if that's unlikely to be the case here.

[crystalmaster]

Yeah, I can too. My rival would have. They're too interested in making a fast profit to think about how they could get sued if it came out. Even if they don't care about anyone's safety, you'd think some of them would think of that!

[Radley would care for both reasons. He's concerned about people and doesn't want them hurt, and being sued would just be a huge pain and ruin his reputation.]

Even back home, it'd be about the money more than anything else. Just as short-sighted, too. Funny how some concepts are universal.
