Arrival/ Obsidian Fieldlands at night

It's been a wild ride since he'd arrived in this new region. At first he had felt at home in Johto and even had some buddies there like Grim and Brodoof. He was getting used to that world when he was suddenly thrown into the past. Sure, Zack had understood What Cara Liss had said but that didn't mean he liked it. He was just starting out his second chance at life and now here he was in another new world.

While he did miss his phone and other modern technology and goods {his hair gel really was sorely missed} he didn't mind being out in the wild. He'd grown up with almost nothing in the backwaters of Gongaga so this was more nostalgic of home then the other place had been.

Zack missed his buddies but luckily he had gained another buddy here. Doggo the growlithe was his buddy and he reminded Zack a lot of brodoof. Doggo would often lay at his feet or cuddle him when he was feeling sad. It was like Doggo could read his thoughts, though Zack wasn't sure if that was real or not. The jury was out on that one still. Together they had adventured around the Obsidian fieldlands, meeting other trainers every so often but usually camping out under the stars together. That was where they were currently found, huddled up under a tree. Doggo was sleeping but Zack was up and stargazing, kept up by thoughts of home and of the previous world.

Cobalt Coastlands

The coastlands were a place Zack really enjoyed. It wasn't too hot but when you laid on the beach for awhile it was warm enough to warrant a nice soak in the waters. At least he had thought that until he realized how many pokemon were in the waters. He had stopped venturing deep into the ocean after learning what lived there the hard way. Doggo wasn't even able to help him in water at all, the poor boy always waited for him patiently on the beach like the good boy he was.

Currently Zack was lounging on the beach, his growlithe laying besides him but on alert in case any other pokemon came too close and tried to bother them. He'd taken his survey corps uniform top off and was topless, only keeping the pants on for now. Doggo's tail started to wag a bit but he stayed where he was, seeing a trainer in the distance. Zack sat up, his back covered in sand and stretched a bit before getting up to survey the area around them.

Alabaster Icelands

It was cold, but with Doggo at his side he had a small furball who always generated heat. The two had trekked into the snowy fields exploring. Really it was just Zack walking in the snow with Doggo in his arms the whole time to keep them both warmer. Doggo was enjoying this and had his tongue out the entire time.

As they had explored, the duo came up upon a flock of bird pokemon that Zack obviously didn't recognize. It looked like some of the bigger birds were picking on a smaller one. Doggo whined at the scene and the two rushed in. Some of the birds (rufflets) flew off in surprise but the one that remained seemed injured in it's wing. Doggo used a fire fang on the rufflets that remained while Zack grabbed the injured Rufflet. "Hey little one, you doing okay? I'll get you some help soon I promise."

A cold wind blew as Zack brought the bird closer to his chest. He whistled for Doggo to leave the others and follow him as they ran into the wild to find any other trainer who might have some kind of healing on them.

Geddoe's definitely not into casual cuddling, no. Especially not with someone he only just met. But that aside...

"I'll see you back."

He is concerned about whether the guy can make it back on his own, considering. Geddoe may be used to dealing with the occasional shock, even some nasty ones, but most people aren't.

That's such a vaguely-worded question, there's easily a half-dozen different ways Geddoe could answer it. Most of them snarky. But tempting though some of those responses might be, Geddoe can guess what the intent of the question is easily enough.

"I did mercenary work back in the world I'm from."

Not exactly a career with a stellar reputation, but he has his reasons.

Geddoe isn't particularly big on either prying or sharing, no. Especially with people he barely knows. Heck, even with people he's known for years, at times.

That said, Geddoe is very all too familiar with that last sentiment.

"If you did everything you could, then try not to beat yourself up over it."

He knows that's much easier said that done--heck, there's still crap from fifty years ago he feels bad about--but he also knows dwelling on it doesn't fix things for anyone.

There's probably things Geddoe could say to that, but, frankly, it's none of his business. And he's just not the type to offer empty pity.

"No idea. Seems like no one knows how people wind up here, let alone why. Some like it here, others don't."

Geddoe's definitely not the type to beat around the bush out of concern for someone's feelings. He does, however, have to consider a moment how to answer that question. More in terms of how to put his thoughts into words than anything.

"I figure it's just another world, however we got here. And if what people say that time passes differently here is true, then I can just stick it out until I go back."

Yes, he's quite aware some people have been here for years. Apparently that doesn't bother him. Much.

"No idea. People just said that no matter how much time someone spends here, they'll get back to their original world the same moment they left."

Now, Geddoe wouldn't age, but that's for other reasons. Zack's question is met with a raised eyebrow, though.

"You wanna tell a secret to someone you just met?"

He's not the type to blab, mind, but the point remains.

It's almost a pity he so quickly moved ahead, it means he probably missed the faint look of mild surprise that crossed Geddoe's features at being called nice. That's not really the sort of first impression most people get of him. That said, the moment passes pretty quickly.

"Your call," Geddoe says with a slight shrug. Honestly,he figures it's probably the sort of all too common thing that young folk think is a much bigger deal than it is.
lightningbearer: (say what)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2022-09-29 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Geddoe had figured, whatever this guy's secret was, it was probably one of those things people think is a big deal until they're older and have more perspective. Having committed a crime, for example, or secretly hating the career their parents pushed them towards. Those sorts of things.

Suffice it to say then, that what Zack actually says surprises him enough to stop in his tracks.

Though only for a moment, you don't get to be as old as he is if you let things like that get to you for long.

"... I don't know what to tell you. There's a lot of strange things about this world."
lightningbearer: (don't look back)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2022-09-29 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Geddoe's not exactly the person to go to for comfort, he tends to be a bit blunt for that. That, and someone who still struggles with his own grief isn't in the best position to give advice on such topics.

Still, he does have a sense of tact, even if it's not always something he bothers with.

"No one knows how much time they have here. Or how much time they have left back in their own worlds. No matter how long or short it is, if you act on what's important to you, you can die without regrets."

Has Geddoe achieved that himself? No. But he knew at least one person who did.
lightningbearer: (considering it)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2022-09-30 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
That certainly would explain why he wants this place to be a second chance, but it's probably not Geddoe's place to comment further. Especially since ultimately, dealing with regrets is on the person who has them, for better or worse. And Geddoe is well-acquainted with that sort of feeling.

"You sure?"

He doesn't want to find you collapsed just outside of camp, kid.
lightningbearer: (something to say)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2022-10-04 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"If you say so."

Geddoe noticed that hesitation, but it's not really his place to question someone else's life (afterlife?) choices. He does wait a moment to be sure Zack's on his way without showing signs of collapsing, then heads off in another direction. Bolt is still sleeping in his hand, but there's daylight left, he can see about whether he can squeeze in another task or something before bed.
