I see. Well, typically most animals look quite alike to anyone who isn't their regular handlers. A pair of horses of the same color and size, for example, look essentially identical for all purposes, though doubtless their groom could still readily tell them apart.
Pokémon are largely similar. Once you've spent a lot of time with yours, you'll probably find yourself able to tell yours apart from others of the same species, at least.
