When Dedue goes down to tend to his garden that morning-- early, as he prefers, before most of the household is awake-- Dimitri is waiting for him. This is an unusual occurrence, both because of the early hour and because Dimitri doesn't usually greet him every morning with his arms full of gifts.
It is his birthday, though, he supposes. Dimitri did almost always remember his birthday.
He isn't entirely pleased at the tiredness that manifests itself as the bag under Dimitri's blue eye, but drawing attention to it right now would be mostly futile. And Dimitri is too excited to engage him in an argument.
"Good morning, Dimitri," he says, and by now, he barely even hesitates at the name. "It is Wednesday, I believe. Why do you ask?"
As though it isn't obvious, with Dimitri's full arms and eager mood. But Dedue enjoys teasing him, from time to time.
