The performance:
Vierna sits at one end of the stage, on a chair festooned with fake spiderwebs. She is once again wearing her Lolthite clerical robes, long and dark and patterned with red and purple spiders, although she's added a sheer, spider-web patterned shawl around her shoulders and she is, unusually, wearing her hair loose. Most of the rest of the stage has been set to resemble a gloomy swamp, with a giant papier-mâché spider with glowing eyes lurking between bunches of reeds.
A spotlight comes up as Golochar enters, carefully holding up a little humanoid puppet between his pedipalps. The puppet is dressed like a fighter, with dark skin and pale hair, with a little cardboard sword in one hand and a little cardboard mace in the other. The galvantula waves it around in what is probably supposed to be an impressive and menacing fashion as Vierna narrates: "The young god Selvetarm was a mighty young warrior, but he had never been able to really make anything of himself. You see, his parents abandoned him when he was very young, and he had no one to teach him how to be a god - not until he learned that his grandmother was Lolth, the Spider Queen."
Golochar scurries over to Vierna, and holds his little Selvetarm doll up, wiggling it back and forth as if it's talking to her. She smiles down at him, and then points across the stage; as he turns to cross toward the swamp and the big fake spider, she continues telling the story. "She explained to him that the demon lord Zanassu was trying to steal all the spiders in the world from her. It would be terrible if a demon had dominion over spiders, of course, only a god should have that kind of power! So Selvetarm went to fight the fiend and take his power."
Behind the set piece, Nathafay pushes the false spider forward into clear view. The resulting "fight" is perhaps a little clumsy, but Golochar makes a good effort to make it look like the puppet is scoring hits while actually he tears at the makeshift "demon" - Fury Cutter, Fury Cutter, Slash - until it falls apart.
"What Selvetarm didn't realize was just how much spider-power Zanassu had," Vierna adds, as Golochar uses Absorb - which, of course, isn't netting him any real HP when used on a fake spider, but the lightshow nicely implies absorbing the demon's power for himself. He drops the puppet, and Nathafay scurries out to affix a mask with the same dark humanoid features and messy white hair over the galvantula's actual face. "After he took the demon lord's power, Selvatarm was turned into a giant spider himself! Only his face was the same. Worried by this turn of events, he fled back to his grandmother's domain in the Abyss."
Golochar scurries back over toward her; a String Shot wraps around Vierna's upheld hand, and she uses the silk to help pull the two-foot-high spider into her lap before concluding her story. "Lolth thought that he'd done very well, and that his new form suited him well - she is the queen of spiders, after all! And so to this day, Selvetarm, in the form of an enormous spider, is Lolth's Champion."
