When the waitress drops by, he takes charge in excusing them for just water to start with, so that Shrike can fully immerse himself in investigating the menu.

Was the younger Shrike like this? Dimitri supposes he was, when he first arrived, if he could adjust to being around so many people.

Often what is preferred is a type of meat, and then a variety of vegetables as well, but it is by no means a settled thing." He smiles. "some can get rather creative with the idea, as you can tell by the many varieties. Burgers are much the same."
