Can You Feel the Love Tonight? (Kallura Wedding Log)
Who: Keith, Allura, and all of their loved ones
Where: Four Island Beach and the Pony Attack on Voltron House
When: May 21
Summary: Keith and Allura celebrate their marriage with their loved ones. Reception with music, food, cake, and foam weapon duels to follow.
Rating: PG to PG-13, will warn as necessary
Log:
I. THE CEREMONY
Very thankfully, none of this weekend's craziness has extended to the weather. There might be a few light sun-showers later in the day, but for the morning, the sky is calm and mostly clear, only dappled with a few clouds, the lingering cool from yesterday's rain tempering the tropical air. ... Hopefully the teleportation shenanigans will behave, or Allura will have WORDS with Arceus. (They've already had to deal with emergency fridge repairs this weekend...)
The stretch of beach just outside the house has been decked out to the nines, the seats for trainers, cushions for Pokemon, and the arch facing the sun-kissed ocean not just in Keith and Allura's usual colors of pink, blue, red, and purple, but deep green Monstera leaves and bright flame-colored bird-of-paradise flowers; all the Voltron colors, even if a few members are missing in this world. Guests are urged to sign the guestbook next to the gifts table before taking their seats; thankfully, the programs have been printed on sturdy paper and given little wooden handles so they can double as fans.
Soon enough, Keith arrives with his party, including Captain Shiro taking his place as today's officiant. And after a brief interlude, a long clear trumpet note rings out, and the bridal procession makes its way down the sandy aisle.
II. THE RECEPTION
Rings and vows exchanged, bride kissed, now it's time to party! Everyone is ushered back to the house for a feast prepared by Hunk and Jane, food stations scattered in and around the property.
Chips and pink-tinged flatbread with queso dip, mango ceviche, and a variety of salsas and fruit chutneys; deviled eggs; skewers with coconut shrimp and pineapple, Southwestern chicken, or miso-glazed vegetables; and for the entrees: berry-glazed pork, beef with a red wine sauce, seafood, ears of corn, and sweet potatoes, all slow-roasted in an umu dug into the sand by the house. For drinks- the only station Shiro was allowed to touch- there's wine, champagne, sangria, beer, sake, as well as a few flavors of lemonade and fruit punch for the teetotalers. The dessert table is just as bountiful: miniature galettes in sweet and savory flavors, sopapillas with honey and chocolates for drizzling, and cupcakes filled with a bright green custard. (It's matcha, mint, and basil, don't worry). The centerpiece, of course, is a beautiful, rustic cake, topped with a Litten in a top hat and an Alolan Vulpix with a veil. The cake itself is a marble of chocolate and strawberry, filled with a rick dark chocolate ganache and strawberry compote.
In between bites, there's plenty of music and dancing to be had thanks to a collab band of Kazuki Hihara, Chicken Choice Judy, Misaki Yamazaki, and Super Sonico. Starting off from the bride and groom's first dance, the music for the evening is an excellent balance of classical, classic rock, and modern hits from across the regions and the multiverse, playing long into the evening.
Of course, if dancing isn't your thing, two other stations have been set up: two rings drawn into the sand, and one featuring a corner with a makeshift rack of protective padding and foam weapons. Yes, there's going to be sparring and Pokemon battles at this wedding. Suit up, battle to knock outs or duel to three points, and try not to get hurt, nobody needs a paramedic visit at the wedding.
So eat, drink, dance, duel until Allura tosses the bouquet and the couple head out for their honeymoon. And don't forget to grab a wedding favor before you head home, custom-made by the bride herself.

The Ceremony
Once Kazuki spots the bridal party emerge from the house, he begins a classic trumpet tune to grace the ladies making their way down the steps and towards the altar. Luisa Madrigal leads the way, followed by Fluttershy, and finally Allura herself, maid-of-honor Romelle beside her on one arm, while her first partner Coressa the Alolan Ninetales strides gracefully next to her trainer. Allura's shy smile beams through the simple veil, held in place by the circlet Shiro gave her last Christmas, the five gems in it shining with the Voltron colors. The hand not hooked onto Romelle's elbow fidgets a bit with her bouquet; even with all her experience with public functions, including more than a few weddings, this is so, so different. This is her wedding, to one of the best men in the universe, one of her best friends, and all that joy and excitement threaten to burst out of her. After those few shy glances around the crowd, her eyes meet his, and all the nervous energy transforms into a bright calm. He's here, therefor she can do anything.

As it was, the weird weekend in general (thanks, Arceus?) had left Keith in a bit of a whirlwind state due to having been a pony at one point and full Galra at another, so he was glad that he was back to normal shape and size right now. That was one thing off his shoulders, and it meant that his suit and tie still fit. He'd been concerned, okay?

She placed her hand over Allura's in encouragement as she noticed that fidgeting. Keith definitely looked handsome (and also quite nervous), and Romelle was beaming for the two of them.

He wasn't kidding. Hangups or no hangups, he'd be here. He would be there for the both of them. He even went and got something new for the occasion. Easier to distance himself if he wasn't wearing the same old suit he always was. He was going to do his absolute best for the people he cared about.
... Even if he's not entirely sure of what he's doing here. This is a new one. Ignore his own brain, focus on the people around him.

Just a few more steps and... there. The bridesmaids- Coressa included- are all lined up, and Allura reaches out to take Keith's hand. Her groom's hand, and in a few minutes officially her husband's hand. He can likely feel the nervous energy in her grip even more than Romelle did, but her smile at him is all real warmth and light.

But Allura gets to have this simple day all for her and Keith. She gets to be the center of importance, not as a general, not as a representative of Alteans, not as a princess, but as a happy girl.
He's not gonna cry he's not gonna cry he's not gonna cry he's not gonna cry HE'S NOT GONNA CRY.

His own hand was shaking a bit as he gripped Allura's, his own nervous energy manifesting there, but he was also smiling at her in return. He could hear his heart pounding and was pretty certain that anyone else could, too. He wasn't sure if Allura and Romelle had their Altean hearing back for the day or not, but he was going to assume they did and could hear it.
He squeezed, though, hoping to reassure her that he was okay, she was okay, everything was okay, and this was going to be perfect.

He's smiling as he asks, watching everyone step up. Everyone take their places. He spreads his hands, for lack of something else to do with them. Listen, there's usually a podium or something when he's making speeches. Of course he has one for now, but he wants to make sure.
"Right. I'm sure both of you have your own things to say to each other. But I'm here to be embarrassing and sappy at the two of you before I turn you loose."
Anybody regretting asking him to do this yet?
"You've both come so far from when I first met you - from when all of us first met you. You've overcome so much, in this world and our own. Seeing you come together is an achievement. You working together, riding through the good and the bad, has made you a great team. That's... going to be very important in your futures. You're not just one person anymore, you're a duo. You'll have to keep relying on each other. Keep trusting each other."
Just focus. He's got this.
"But I think you can. You've gotten this far. I think you'll keep going above and beyond all expectations."
Their own included.
"And I'm so proud of you. Both of you." He gestures to the couple. "Go for it. Your turns."

He had to clear that lump out of his throat first...
Deep breath.
He took both of Allura's hands now, as she had handed off her bouquet to Romelle, and held them in his own, looking down at them for a moment before back up to meet her eyes. He couldn't help it. He smiled.
"Allura, I..." Another breath. "You know I'm not great with words. I think pretty much everyone knows that by now." He actually chuckled a bit, though it was slightly nervous. "So, I um... I had tried to come up with something ahead of time, and I just didn't like anything that was coming to mind. It probably seems kind of ridiculous for someone like me to wing something like this, but it honestly felt like the right thing to do. I just wanted to speak from the heart.
"I wasn't really sure just what to think of you when we first met. Things were really tense in the moment, and Lance was being an idiot." He smirked a bit. "And there was a lot weighing on us. I definitely remember thinking that you were really intense, though." He squeezed her hands a little with the tease. "But, I feel like all this time now, everything we've come through, and done together... I know you so much better now. And knowing you, who you are, what you've overcome, what you're capable of... that you love ice cream and sparkly things, and hate pineapple and spicy peppers..." He shook his head a little, smiling. "All these little things that make you who you are as a person, I can't imagine anyone in any reality that I'd want to spend my life with."
He sniffed slightly, blinking a few times and swallowing that darn lump again.
"I um-..." His voice trembled just a bit, and he took another breath to steady himself. "I love you. More than I ever thought I could love anyone. And I am grateful... to this place... for getting the chance to have this... to have you... in my life... and as my wife."
And that was it. He looked to the side towards Shiro for a moment. "Heh." And then closed his eyes for a second before releasing one of her hands to wipe at his face. His voice was done. He was going to sob like a baby if he said anything else.

Oh. Even though Keith was so nervous and shy, those words... those words are perfect. She can't help her eyes growing a little damp, even as she reaches her freed hand up to Keith's face to caress his cheek.
"That was beautiful, love..." A soft laugh. "Well, I had words prepared, but... I think you set too fine an example."
A deep breath.
"Keith... You're right; we both can be very intense at times. But... you've always managed to temper me, to remind me to be patient or be merciful or believe in myself, to bring warmth and comfort to my life when I need it most. You may have a hard time believing it, but you are so much more than a Paladin, a leader, or a trainer. You're the most incredible man I've ever met, my best friend, my teammate, my family... and now my husband. Of all the blessings I've received coming here, getting to know you and find love in you has been the finest. I want to spend every day I have here by your side, for us to learn even more about each other, to be greater than the two of us could be alone. I want to make you feel as deeply loved as you make me feel, because you are. I love you so much, Keith."

Maybe a touch of it was because apparently she doesn't like pineapple and spicy peppers and that is tragic, but 99% of it is over this beautiful moment both these people needed. This bit of normalcy and companionship they've been blessed with.

But it comes out good natured enough. Teasing, like Shiro so often does. Not that he's blaming anyone for being emotional here. There's a lot of reasons for doing so. Like his own, but those don't count. Not right now.
"Or, you can keep crying while you go hand over your rings. Might make it hard to see, though."
That's your cue, you crazy kids. Do the exchange!
no subject
Don't make him panic now...

Allura, meanwhile, is at least a little calmer turning to Romelle and reaching for her ring for Keith: a band of yellow, white, and rose gold braided together, all the edges still flat and smooth so Keith can wear it comfortably.
no subject
"Here you go big man."
It's choked out, but he's pretending so hard he's not crying.
no subject
"Right..." He took a deep breath.

She was proud of herself, and was smiling like crazy as Allura took the ring for Keith.
no subject
Easy enough to take Keith's hand and slide the ring onto his finger. She gives it a soft squeeze before offering her own hand.
no subject
He then took her hands in his, giving them a tight squeeze as he met her eyes and smiled. He nodded. He was okay. This was a lot of feelings in a strong moment, but he was okay. And he was hoping she was, too.
no subject
Oh that she was. Her eyes were brimming with tears too, but once she looked up from her hand, her gaze never left her husband's, and her smile stayed strong and true. Her husband.
