Mandos and Helmets and Smolivs, Oh My!
Who: Bo-Katan, Mando, and anyone else!
Where: Train and Saffron City
When: Late August
Summary: Mando takes Bo-Katan to his place in Saffron City.
[Train Ride] - Closed to Mando
Everything happened so quickly. One moment she was standing before the Great Forge, with her people celebrating its lighting, then the next she was in this place. Getting kicked out of a house and left to her own devices with nothing but a bag, a few items, and s bird who wouldn’t leave her alone. Fortunately, there was another Mandalorian here, which admittedly was very helpful.
Din thankfully explained the basics, despite Bo’s disapproval of everything about everything in this world. It would take her some time to process it all. He did at least convince her to tolerate the bird, Rowlet, whatever. Showing her also how to put it in one of those balls. That was handy, as she could just banish the thing if it got too annoying.
Bo would then end up following him to another city where they would board a train which would supposedly take them to the city where he lived. Sitting in one of the seats, it vaguely reminded her of the hyperloop on Plazir-15. A thought that only brought back the disappointment she felt that he remembered none of the last few months they spent together.
“So,” she started as the train began to leave the station, keeping her helmet in her lap. “Two years. What have you been doing all this time?” An attempt at conversation at least and a desire to understand this Din Djarin better.
[Mando House] - Open to anyone who might be found here.
The train would eventually drop them off in Saffron City, which was just as impressive as the city they had left. While still not to the tech level that she’s used to, this was at least significantly better than where she had started out.
Putting her helmet back on she would again follow Din, taking in all the sights as he led her to the place she assumed he called home. She wasn’t really sure what to expect, but either way she would take it all in stride as she has done with everything in this world. It was becoming very clear to her how essential these Pokémon were to the people here as she would see many of them accompanying the citizens of the city. Pictures of them plastered on billboards and shops everywhere.
Once they reached his flat, Bo would step in and take a look around. Removing her helmet and placing it under her arm. “Cozy,” she remarks with some humor as she began giving herself a tour of the place.
[Smoliv Shenanigans] - Open to All!
She needed some air. As nice as Din and his roommates are, she was feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all and needed some space and time to think. Thus the lady Mandalorian put her helmet back on and went out to take a walk. Exploring a bit of the city would help ease her mind she thought, and she allowed the bird to come out of its ball too. Though she wasn’t quite ready to start letting it perch on her yet. Bo shooing her off every time she tried.
Her explorations eventually led her to a quaint and well manicured park. Green grass, trees, a little slice of nature in the sprawling metropolis. Of course there were Pokemon too. People playing with their companions and a few wild ones milling about. All of which largely went ignored by the Mandalorian. Though she did spot the occasional odd look or curious glance.
Though little did she expect as she walked along a path, that a horde of little green things would suddenly stampede in front of her, splashing oil all over the place. The strange little plant creatures spreading out and taking up space… practically everywhere. She could only stand there and stare for a moment, her Rowlet trilling curiously as it hovered in the air beside her.
Well, whatever, she would just move on. Except when she started walking again, all that oil would prove slippery. Her feet slipping right out from under her and causing the Mandalorian to fall with a distinct thud and clanging of metal. Her Rowlet shrieking in surprise, landed next to her to make sure she was okay. “I’m fine,” she tells the worried owl with a grunt as she grabbed a nearby bench and hauled herself onto it. A few startled Smolivs had also noticed the mishap, perhaps realizing they were the cause and crowded around Bo’s feet. All of them anxiously chirping in concern. “Go away, you’ve done enough,” she tells them grumpily while also using a foot to try and push them away. This only seems to upset them and they begin to cry. Tears streaming from their little eyes as they wailed. Bo-Katan could only sigh and removed her helmet to look at them with mixed emotion. Usually she had a good handle on her feelings, but seeing them so upset was making her upset. “Stop that. Calm down.” But they wouldn’t, and she could feel a lump in her throat too. Soon enough tears started rolling down her face too, which she furiously tried to wipe away. “I said stop!” This only made them cry harder. Even her Rowlet, which was now perched on the back of the bench, had her eyes watering up.

He doesn't really want to get Mando into hot water though. He isn't entirely certain what relationship exists between them, but it certainly sounds like she's a little put out by not having been mentioned.
"He doesn't... talk a lot about his world? Mostly just when I ask him for bounty hunting stories. And a little bit about his kid. It took him more than a year to tell me his name."
And Riz, as a very private person himself, had never really pushed Mando to reveal more. He is curious to a fault, it's true, but he's also been learning that you cannot treat friends as subjects in an interrogation.
no subject
“Then let’s change that shall we? I’ll answer any questions that you have.”
She’s willing to talk, even if Din isn’t. So here is Riz’s chance to satisfy his curiosity.
no subject
"How did the two of you meet? I'm guessing you are not from the same group of Mandalorians, right? Considering you are way more normal about the helmet."
no subject
“Din is a child of the Watch, a group that split off from mainstream Mandalorians. They chose to follow the ancient traditions of our people that had been largely abandoned long ago.”
Sound a little culty? That’s because it is, and Bo had readily said so before. Though her opinion of Din’s culvert has changed in recent months.
“They were so isolated that he didn’t even know different groups existed until we met. He was looking for others of his kind on Trask and was mislead by Quarren fishermen.” She paused as she realized Riz might not know what that was. “A fish-like people with tentacles on their faces.” How’s that for a mental image?
“Using his kid as bait they got him to jump into their water filled hold and trapped him there. Fortunately my team arrived just in time and I pulled him out.”
no subject
His scrunched up expression soon transforms into one of outrage though. "They used his kid against him? That's low! Did you kill 'em?"
no subject
“Every single one of them,” she says without remorse. It had been low and they had paid the price for it. “And the ones that came looking for revenge.” Bo was certain they sent out a clear message not to mess with Mandalorians.
no subject
no subject
“Anything else?”
no subject
He's curious in part because it is difficult to imagine what sort of jobs Mandalorians would have outside of something like that, and also in part because he really hopes she has some badass stories to tell too.
no subject
“Sometimes mercenaries, raiders, hired muscle, yes. Whatever we need to do to survive. I spent the last several years stealing from what’s left of the Empire and building a fleet.”
no subject
(Not that Riz had any experience with that part yet, seeing as he was only a Sophomore.)
"What's the fleet for?"
no subject
“To increase our strength. With the goal of retaking our planet and reuniting our people.” A smile touched her lips at the thought. Bittersweet actually as it had taken a lot of work and she had to endure set backs and near failure.
no subject
"I hope you manage it." He doesn't exactly have much else to offer. Anything he and his friends have been involved him has always been against a small group of people. They might have the wits and power to deal with a couple of demons, a dragon even, but something on that scale is completely beyond them.
no subject
She looks down for a few moments, mustering a weak smile. Because there is a good ending. “We do.” They get their planet back yes, but after great effort and at a cost. Yet more things that Din didn’t remember.
no subject
"It's not his fault, you know. It's this world. It kidnaps people at random, and then it doesn't even have the decency to take us all from the same time. Or sometimes it bring people here, sends them back and then kidnaps them again, except they lose all their memories of this place." That's what had happened to Boober. He had come back different -- no memories of this place and younger. It had all worked out, but it had been a painful twist to realise only one of them remembered their previous friendship.
"It's okay. Eventually my friends are gonna figure out I'm here, and they will come get me. And when they do, we'll find whoever is responsible for all of this and kick their ass." He grins at Bo, toothy and with such an unshakable conviction in his friends. "We'll let you get a shot in too. Even if we can't find where they are keeping our weapons, I'll ask Gorgug to hold 'em down for you so you can punch 'em in the face."
no subject
She knows it’s not his fault. It’s also not his fault that he’s found a life for himself here after two years. It’s understandable, and in a way she’s happy for him. He seems content and he deserves some peace.
But that didn’t make it hurt any less.
Riz’s attempt to cheer her up is cute and she shakes her feelings off for now. “I would like that.” Giving someone a punch in the face for all of this is exactly what she needs. Bo hates feeling helpless and unable to do anything. Given the chance she will get out of this place.
no subject
"So, what's your plan now? Are you going to be staying here?" Riz is not against that, but man, their little two bedroom apartment is starting to get a little small, huh? Gobo is mostly off travelling, at least, so he doesn't really need a bed.
no subject
“I don’t know.”
She just got here and hadn’t really thought that far yet. But yes, she could see that the apartment was small. Not surprising for such a big city. Bo should probably find her own place. But with what money?
“I’ll figure something out.”
She doesn’t want to impose or overstay her welcome after all. One way or another she will find a solution. Even if it just means wandering around this world aimlessly.
no subject
Riz is a kid who grew up with very little. In all honesty, while this particular apartment isn't much bigger than the one he grew up in, it sure is nicer. Less mould. No haunted pool.
"This couch isn't too bad for sleep on, and if Gobo comes around, I'm sure he can stay in the room with me and Boober."
They've got a bunk bed, they can figure something out.
no subject
“As long as Din doesn’t mind I’ll stay for at least a few days.” Enough time to get used to this place and figure out her next move. Which meant learning more about this place.
no subject
Sure, with a few less memories on Mando's end, but Riz did not see how that had to change anything. If one of his friends showed up, even if they were from somewhere during their freshman year, even if they were from before they ever met, he'd want to take care of them.
no subject
And she doesn’t want to interrupt his little life here. But really that’s somewhat of an excuse. Her own feelings are making things complicated, at least for her. Something she was determined to keep to herself. It would be harder to keep it that way if she stayed close.
It was probably time to move on from this conversation. Breathing out a sigh she stands up. “I’m going to take a walk. You should start stretching that leg too.”
no subject
"Right." What Riz is actually going to do first is take a shower. After a month of awkwardly washing his hair over the sink, he deserves a proper shower. Everybody else in the apartment also deserves him having a shower. "Ah, before you leave--"
Riz gets up from the couch, hobbling-hopping slightly awkwardly to where a leather briefcase sits leaning against the wall. He digs through it for a moment, before he finds what he is looking for, shuffling back to the couch with no more grace than before. He really is going to need those stretches. He might even have to ask Mando to train with him a little because after being stuck on the couch for a month, he's moving around with less grace than Gilear.
"My card." And as he says it, he hands Bo a business card, one that proclaims him to be a 'licensed private investigator' along with his phone number. "In case you, I dunno, get lost or run into anything. Not that I don't think you can't defend yourself without your weapons--" Look at her, anyone would be crazy to mess with her. "-- but just in case."
no subject
Bo is heading for the door but pauses when he tells her to wait. Patiently she looks on as he hobbies around to get something. Not bothering to help or anything as he needs to be doing this to get back into shape. Once he holds out the card, she steps over to take it. Looking it over for a moment before placing it in one of her belt’s pouches.
“Thank you.”
A small smile and then she moves to the door again. “I’ll be back. Remember. Don’t do anything stupid.” And with that she puts on her helmet and steps out.
