8th Petal [Video, Goldenrod City]

Okay Gracie, you hold on real tight, and I'll hold the Poke'gear...

[It's not quite obvious what's going on in this video at first - there's just darkness, the sound of Asriel's voice, the distinct sfft of something rubbing against fur. The view changes just in time for a gruff Lyyyy to be heard, and Moon the Lycanroc's face takes up the screen, looking back at Asriel with a glint in his red eyes and a big grin. There's snow everywhere.]

Are you ready, Moon? We're not too heavy for you?

Roc! [The Pokemon shakes his head and faces forward, crouching down. If you squint, you can see the snowy, unplowed stretch of road ahead of them, and the numerous figures sliding around, making long, winding tracks. They don't speak, but by gosh do they cluster around like a pack of Pikachu...]

Okay - go!

[AND OFF THEY GO, Moon running full-tilt, actually using his forepaws to gain momentum as Asriel and Gracie the Floette let out peals of gleeful laughter. A lot of the snowchus scatter in Moon's wake, and he leaps rather impressively over the ones that don't make it in time.]

Ahahah! This is so cool!! This is-

[Whoops, that jolt when they hit the ground must've pushed Asriel into his 'gear, 'cause the feed just turned off. Dang, and that was some pretty impressive feats of snow fun - but what in the world was making those snowchus move???]

[Frisk is watching from the sidelines, with Big Bone and Shelly nearby, and when Moon takes off they holler and leap as they cheer.]

Go, go, faster! Ha ha!

[They take off running down the street, plowing a path through the snow to keep up. Their Pokemon startle and hurry after their trainer, though Big Bone abruptly decides to run out to keep pace with Moon. Let's race, friend!]

[Asriel has to hold on tight to stay on, but thankfully his Lycanroc has loads of fur in his mane for holding. When Big Bone hurries over, Moon reaches back with one paw to make sure he's got Asriel in place. Sacrificing a paw to protect his trainer? Of course, if he's going to race. Are you kidding?]

C'moon! You can do it, Moon!

Go, go, go!

[And they're off! Big Bone howls happily and takes off as fast as he can, pulling a little bit ahead of Moon thanks to having no trainer to worry about. Of course, his strides aren't quite so long as Moon's either...]

[Frisk, on their part, just cheers and laughs and jumps--there's no way they can keep up, but this is so exciting!]

[Moon is counting on his strides to help him out - that and his free forepaw to help him turn sharply as he reaches the end of the street, sending up a spray of snow that scatters more snowchus. And now he's loping back up the street! Frisk won't be able to see Asriel, but they could see Gracie and her flower, hanging on tight and relishing the wind.]

Wooooooohooo!

Flooooo!

[Big Bone isn't quite fast enough to react, skidding in the snow as he struggles to make the sharp turn. He almost slams into a few NPCs wandering down the street but manages to regain traction just before he does and races back in Moon's wake, barking excitedly.]

[Shelly bleats, calling out for both of the racers to be careful! Frisk, however, is just caught up in the moment and rushes to meet them half-way.]

Faster, faster! You can do it!!

[It's a move we like to call the Goldenrod Drift. Takes time to perfect, or perhaps a spur-of-the-moment decision based on ALL THE FACTORS.

Moon is sure not to spray or fall into Frisk as he goes past, tongue hanging out from his open-mouthed grin. Asriel looks back at them cheeks pink from the cold wind and eyes bright. This is easily the most fun he's had in ages, and considering how wonderful this place was, that's saying something.]

Hiiiii Frisk!

Hi Asri--woah!!!

[Frisk doesn't really have time to reply as Big Bone gallops up and, in one smooth movement, ducks his head to roll Frisk up onto his back without even breaking stride. Poor Shelly is left in the dust, bleating in distress and chasing after the pair of hounds as fast as she can. Frisk manages to wrap their arms around Big Bone's neck before they fall off, and giggles with glee.]

Ahahaha! We're gonna catch you!!

Aah! Oh noo!

[He laughs, clinging tighter to Moon.] C'mon, now you're even with 'em! Let's go!

[With a boisterous howl, Moon is off again! COME ON BIG BONE!!!]

C'mon, we can do it!

[Big Bone howls and takes off as fast as he can, so over-excited that puffs of fire come out on every breath. He starts to catch up, but can't quite seem to break past Moon just yet.]

Yeah, yeah!

[KEEP IT UP BIG BONE YOU CAN DO IT because frankly Moon is starting to wear out a little. He slows somewhat, panting, his footing a little more unsure on the snow - but his grip on Asriel is tight, his trainer WILL be safe!

THE ARBITRARY FINISH LINE IS IN SIGHT........]

[Big Bone is starting to flag as well, but not by so much--he surges forward with an excited howl, snow flying everywhere as they...!]

[...actually, can anyone tell what just happened with all that snow in the air? Either way both Pokemon have blow past the 'starting mark', and it's anyone's guess who actually came first.]

[Even if it wasn't, it was probably a tie, or too close to really tell. But once the snow settles and Moon skids to a stop, he flops into the snow, grinning and panting from a job well done. Asriel rolls off of him, mindful of Gracie as he lays in the snow and the Snowchus skitter over to surround them curiously. Huh!]

Aaah, that was so cool!

[Frisk and Big Bone go into a tumbling roll, laughing and howling delightedly. Frisk sits up after a moment, beaming at Asriel.]

Yeah!! We were goin' so fast--oh!

[Some of the Snowchus huddle around them, followed by an out of breath and VERY annoyed Shelly. Don't just run off like that, Trainer!!]

Hi there! How'd you start movin'?

[Most of Asgore's Pokemon are sensitive to the cold, so he's out with just Jam today. The Ditto's taken the form of a Houndour, romping around in the snow nearby.]

Do be careful, children!

I'm careful, I'm careful!

[Asriel calls out as Moon skirts around another snowchu. They make for really fun obstacles, honestly.

When Moon's finally tuckered out, though, he'll come over to Asgore and let Asriel slide off his back. The boy is pink-cheeked, bright-eyed, and beaming. When was the last time he looked so happy?]

Dad, didja see? There's snow monsters out there! Real ones!

[He never thought he would see Asriel playing in the sun.]

I did notice that. Are they a type of Pokemon? [He just assumed they were, which is why that was not alarming.]

[Asriel shrugs. Even if they're not, obviously there's some sort of magic afoot.] I dunno! They run away from Moon, but they don't make any sound.

How strange. Maybe they migrated with the snow. Jam, can you become one of those?

[Jam makes a thoughtful Houndour noise, and then transforms into a snow-chu. But they can also transform into inanimate objects, so perhaps that doesn't mean much.]

Wow, that's really good, Jam! Hey - what if they're all just Dittos pretending to be made of snow?

I suppose they could be! Though I have never seen so many wild Ditto in one place...at least, not that I know of.

Maybe it's like when there were all those lions last week. They were everywhere!

[Dear lord would anyone even notice a swarm of Ditto]

[Who knows, man]

Yes, that was something! Maybe we could make friends with these creatures as well.

Yeah! But they probably can't come inside if they're being snow. What if they start melting?

[Nobody wants melted Ditto in their carpet.]

That is a fair point.

[Although he feels like there are definitely actual Pokemon made of snow? What's the deal with Pokemon, man?]

Perhaps we could set out some dishes for them.

[We just don't know.]

Oh! Yeah! Like snacks, right? It's probably hard to find snacks in the snow, even if you're all snowy too...

[Maybe they can find some cinnamon bunnies?]

I imagine so. We can make something!

Maybe they like...popsicles?
