[Closed Log] Reunion
Who: Noctis, Prompto and Ignis
Where: Route 29; later in Cherrygrove
When: July 3rd until ? (Might be a catchall)
Summary: The boys find their friend.
It had taken them the better part of the day to get to Cherrygrove, the boys arriving late in the afternoon after multiple stops to cope with the motion sickness that came with using the warp pads. Even after arriving they had waited for about an hour to get their bearings before Noctis had let Shepard out, Prompto letting Boko out as well, and the pair had led the search for Ignis.
Without a scent to follow it hadn't been easy for Shepard but cues from the Noctowl flying above had put the Lycanroc on the right track and after about two hours on the road a howl had let Noctis know Shepard was onto something.
"Come on," he said hurriedly, grabbing Prompto's hand and taking off down the road, veering off the main path to follow Shepard's trail.
Apparently Ignis had ended up off road. (Not surprising but a little worrying..)
"Ignis?" Noctis called out and he startled as one of the Pokeballs on his belt popped up, Carbuncle appearing in a flash of light. The Espeon twilled before taking off into the bushes, using it's newfound abilities to sweep the area.
"This way!"
Startling, Noctis glanced at Prompto then followed his Espeon, still not used to the psychic abilities his former Eevee had obtained.
Said former Eevee would be the first one to find Ignis, chirping and twilling as he spotted the other, bouncing up and down.
"Found him, found him!"

And Damien remained gripping to Prompto as he rushed forward... before stopping a distance from Ignis. There were so many things he'd say out of impulse if it wasn't his friend. So, instead, he tried to keep his voice from cracking. "Iggy...!"
no subject
It wasn't the first time. It probably wouldn't be the last time either.
However the sudden appearance of a much higher leveled Espeon caused the smaller Pidgey to flee the scene. Ravioli turns, letting out an irritable chirp at being interrupted. But a new challenger had approached it thought in its head.
Ignis was not on Ravioli's level of thinking. He simply wanted the Pidgey to finish letting off its steam and be done with it. He turns when he hears his name called.
And Ravioli suddenly springs into action. He was going to kick that over grown radioactive looking Eevee's ass and-- then his leg was grabbed by his trainer, the pidgey getting yanked straight out of the air.
Ignis never even turned his head. Ravioli was loud. He could hear that one even over the irritating music. The Pidgey was put back into his Pokeball much to the bird's distress.
Where were the others..? Oleander in his ball, Dahlia... chasing after the Skitty that had taken this mini battle as a chance to explore the surrounding area in wild baby abandon.
"I said I could meet you in the next town over." Ignis starts walking towards the voice. It was a warm, familiar voice. Prompto.
But as he had not heard Noctis...
"Did you come on your own?"
As he drew closer he extended a hand to the blonde, to shake it in warm greeting. The hand was just slightly off center of Prompto's body.

"Bring it on!" Someone had been influenced a little too much by a shiny Umbreon that belonged to Ash. Their fight was cut short by Ignis's interference though and the shiny Espeon whined before bounding over to sniff at said blind man's shoes.
Noctis realized that Ignis wasn't aware he was there when he asked Prompto if he was alone, the prince letting out a weak laugh as he stopped a couple steps behind the blonde.
"You think I'd let him come out here to get you alone?" he asked, glancing at Carbuncle as the Espeon licked one of Ignis's shoes before bounding off. "..Good to see you in one piece, Specs."
no subject
Prompto, however, looked from Ignis to Noctis, letting out a laugh to his boyfriend. A weak, tired one. "Yeah - but we couldn't wait because we've been here for months without you?" Damien, meanwhile, gave a little look to the Pidgey, before giving a shy Yamask wave.

It's the touch that snaps him back to attention and his gaze is on Ignis again, his mouth working but words don't come easily for a second. He takes a breath and steals a glance at Prompto, feeling and probably looking helpless before he looks at his steward.
"It's...I don't know what happened back home but it's good to see you, Ignis," he managed to get out, voice cracking slightly towards the end as he reached up and almost went for the other man's hand before opting to rub at the back of his own neck instead like the awkward kid he is. "I--" Wait. "Ten years?"
His hand goes still and he's staring now, shock coursing through him.
"Specs, what do you mean ten years??"
no subject
He did look older, huh? Prompto had hoped it was because of the scarring, but as soon as Ignis lets go, Prompto takes a few steps backwards. But he tried to give a concerned look to Prompto, as he could feel his own heart dropping. This was stuff he shouldn't even know about, huh... probably stuff about him being King and all.
And, just like that, his months here felt like nothing. Once again, he was an outsider, watching these two men so they could discuss what was happening. Giving a soft grunt, Prompto nodded to himself. He'll let them talk, and... yeah. Yeah.
no subject
A flat confirmation that sat in Ignis's mind. Ten years and neither of them seemed aware. That was the most troubling sign. He knew Noct was behind but..
"Prompto, you've no idea either.. You're from earlier years as well, I could hear it in your voice. Younger."
It could ne Ardyn, playing games. He wasn't above being bored as well awaiting the Dawn prince. Perhaps manipulating Umbra, the poor lonely thing.
Or just a world's magic picking from random points. Wasn't Eos broken enough?
"There is nothing I can say to either of you to provide any comfort. One shouldn't know their.. possible.. future."
But time was persistent in following its path. Ignis felt suddenly lonelier than he did without his equally aged companions.
no subject
But then Ignis spoke and it hit Noctis hard.
"That's--you don't get to make that call!" he snapped, voice cracking but he didn't care. His attention was completely on Ignis again, hand still outstretched towards Prompto as he fought the urge to cry and just yell as much as he could. "Prompto and I already had to figure this out when we got here because he doesn't--we're from different points in time, too and now you show up and you--it's...I want to know what happened, Ignis. You said it's been ten years and you're acting like you haven't--like I've been gone that entire time. Tell me why!"
no subject
Every word seems to make Prompto grow quieter and stiffer. "You think it's gonna be hard for you? How'm I meant to deal with Insomnia falling and not being able to do anything about it!"
But whatever words he wanted to add after that seemed to be caught in his throat - Prompto hadn't even admitted to Noctis before how much this burned him up inside. And, oh, how it did.
Even if they weren't ready for it. (Prompto was never ready for any of this. Why couldn't him and Noctis had stayed ignorant and alone and happy? Why did Ignis need to ruin that? Fuck... of course it'd never work out like that. The Prince needed his attendant, even if he was wrong.)
no subject
"What good wouldk nowing do either of you exactly? It would lead to nothing and provide you nothing."
Why cause unneeded pain? And Prompto... Ignis felt a sense of irritation at his words, jaw tightening.
"I've lived what you're asking me to tell you, Prompto. Do you believe I would want you to both know and live it?"
He suddenly scoffs, shifting his weight. He takes a few backwards steps from them, clearly becoming uncomfortable with either the conversation or them as it was.
"This isn't even real, is it? A game Ardyn is playing..."
no subject
He sucks in a breath at the mention of a certain individual, frowning and feeling his frustration grow ten fold.
"What does Ardyn have to do with this?" he asked firmly, not about to let Ignis let that one go. "Is he the reason that we haven't seen each other for ten years?"
no subject
Fuck. Prompto's sure he's fucked up even more. But, shaking it off, he then simply says: "You know though, Iggy. If you're gonna be here with us, we won't stop asking.
Because we've gotta... let others take on our burdens." He says softly, glancing to Noctis. It's why he showed him under his bracelet, after all. In this weird place which totally existed.
no subject
It was impossible. All of this was impossible. separate worlds, strange creatures. Ignis needed to stop and think. He needed to take a moment to refocus.
He closes his eye, takes a long deep breath. There needed to be logic brought to this situation. This Noctis had no knowledge of Altissa but Ignis's Noctis also had no knowledge of this world, as of the last time they spoke.
So perhaps, if it were real, the memories didn't remain. Or at least Noctis wasn't willing to share them with Ignis later. Nothing would change then. Time would march on to its inevitable end.
"...Ardyn Izunia has everything to do with things that have happened in Eos. It is easy to assume he is playing games." If Ardyn wanted any of them dead they would be dead, lets be honest.
"He's the reason, yes. You were sealed within the Crystal when you reached it, and we have not seen you since that day. We're waiting for you to be released. Prompto, Gladio and I.. though we parted ways to handle things in different places."
And just the stress.
"You say you do not remember Altissa as well. That is where I lost my sight. It is not something... I'm not prepared to speak at length, but Ardyn was involved. It was also where...."
Ah here was the difficulty. How much to really say. Prompto was right in that they would pester him incessantly but details.. Lunafreya.. was it necessary?
"It was where our journey became more focused." Better. No need to break the news of Luna if not needed.
no subject
But then Ignis continues and it just fuels the fire even more, Noctis gaze back on the steward in a blink as everything starts to fall into place.
"Sealed..within the Crystal?" The prince repeated, looking shocked and maybe even a little bit terrified. "Wait so that..I was sealed..I'm going to be sealed inside the crystal for ten years?"
Is that what was waiting for him back home? Is that what his fate ultimately was?
His composure is obviously wavering, the prince fumbling for words as he shakes his head.
"More...something..a lot of bad things happened, didn't they? In Altissa?" he asked, swallowing against the lump building in his throat as he stared at the ground rather than at either of his companions.
"Did she get better?" Noctis startles as a voice filters through his head--through all of their heads--and his eyes focus on Carbuncle who is now standing beside Ignis, head tilted as the gem on it's head glows softly. "Did she get back up?"
"..Who's he talking about, Ignis?"
no subject
He thought he'd finally managed to get past that, and the sweat building on his palms made him realise he really hadn't.
Instead, he moved to hold onto Noctis, in a gentle hug, if he could. Silently. Ignis couldn't see it, could he? Because things happened. Things he'll never be able to change no matter what happens here. But he, too, looked to the Espeon. (And Damien let out a little worried whine.)
no subject
He kneels down, taking only a moment to find the Espeon's head to gently stroke. It was a good creature, despite its nosiness.
Neither of them need to know the truth... Can I trust you to keep it secret?
"Iris. She was injured, more recently, on a hunt but none of us truly worried, besides Gladio.. She is a strong woman now. She's just fine."
It wasn't a lie, per se. It simply wasn't the one the Espeon was asking about.
no subject
"For now. Noctis doesn't like secrets. He'll be sad." Chirping softly, Carbuncle moves to prop his front paws on Ignis's leg so he can push his head up underneath the man's chin. "I'm sorry you're sad. They will help!"
Something told Noctis that he wasn't getting the full story out of Ignis but this..had already been more than he was ready to deal with. So for now he'd leave it.
"..I'm glad," he murmured, arms going around Prompto and hugging him close, pressing his face into his boyfriend's shoulder for a moment as he tries to compose him. There's a moment of silence before he speaks again, pausing to press a kiss to the blonde's temple. "We should get moving. Or set up camp--whatever we're going to do tonight."
For Ignis
It had been a few hours since they found Ignis and settled down to camp, not seeing the point in making their way back to the city just yet. It's not like they had anywhere to be and they all needed to rest.
If only it were that easy, though.
The prince was seated by the dying embers of the fire they had made, Carbuncle curled up in his lap while Shepard rested on the ground behind them, both of them dozing lightly. Noctis had tried but couldn't shake all the thoughts plaguing his mind, rest evading him. He still felt sick to his stomach after hearing everything Ignis had to say and his eyes still burned from the tears that had escaped a couple hours prior. He felt terrible and he wished more than anything he could take Ignis's pain away. Wished that he could just fix it all as easy as he could train a Pokemon.
But nothing could really be that easy, could it?
Its fo' me!
It was strange, hearing the timbre of the young voices. The fear in Prompto's, the anxiety that he had carried for so many years until life and growth steadied the shake. The pain Noctis felt, the fears the young man carried for a future he was doomed to deal with.
None of this were things he wanted them to deal with. It wasn't fair to them and Ignis felt as if he were giving them a great burden to carry.
Exhaustion coupled with a sense of safety with both Prompto and Noctis -- especially Noctis-- near for the first time in some years for one and ten for the other assisted Ignis in falling into a deeper sleep than his normal.
The sleep was unsettled soon enough. Porkchop, who had laid down on Ignis's shoulder lifted her head, ears turning this way and that. Something was wrong. So he stood carefully and hopped down, toddling over to find Noctis. By the time he reached Noct Ignis was shooting straight up with a sharp, almost painful sounding intake of breath. One hand was twisted against the sleeping bag, the other against his chest.
A moment later he was searching for a weapon that wasn't there, still a bit lost in the brief panic of waking from a nightmare before he squeezes his eyes shut, forcing himself to stop and think.
no subject
"Hey," he greeted, still unfamiliar with Ignis's companions but not so much that he isn't going to be kind to them. "What are you doing up, huh?"
The moment is halted by Ignis sitting up sharply, gaining the attention of Noctis and both his Pokemon. Said young man immediately makes to stand, Carbuncle already hopping out of his lap despite his exhaustion, going over to his steward immediately.
"Specs--Ignis--it's okay," he said softly, kneeling down a couple feet from the other. "It's okay you're safe. You're with Prompto and I."
no subject
Porkchop had no sense of patience, frolicking over to pounce into Ignis's lap. He mews and stomps about, dancing his front paws against Ignis's chest to try and get his trainer to pay attention.
Ignis rests his hand on the small Skitty, looking back down at it without seeing.
"...I know. Thank you. It seems I am not meant to have a good night's rest for once. I apologize if I woke you."
no subject
The other probably needed a lot. Things that Noctis couldn't give but the least he could do was offer something right now. A drink. Something to eat.
Company?
Resting a hand on Carbuncle's head, Noctis looks down at him as that same lost feeling from earlier starts to rear it's ugly head again.
"...I'm sorry."
no subject
"Why are you apologizing?"
He looks up towards the sound of the voice. There was really no reason for Noctis to apologize. He'd done nothing wrong. There was nothing Noctis was able to do either.
"I should be the one apologizing to you."
no subject
"I doubt the last thing you wanted was to deal with me, like this, again," he murmured, voice betraying how upset he really was. How much of a failure he felt like right now. Ignis hadn't seen him in ten years; had been fighting to protect Insomnia while he was gone and Noctis..didn't know anything. So much had happened and he felt like he was letting everyone down all of a sudden.
Shifting, he scoops Carbuncle up to cradle the fox-Pokemon in his arms, pressing his face into the Espeon's fur for a moment.
It's okay, Noctis. It's said just for the prince, Carbuncle squirming so he can lick his trainer's cheek then nuzzle him.
"..I...I wish it hadn't..that you weren't..." He had clearly not been good enough to stop so much bad shit from happening.
no subject
There was a change to Noctis it seemed. He heard his posture shift. Then heard the more distinct shange in his voice. The stutter.
"Noct."
Ignis shifts, moving to sit next to the young man.
"Listen. What happened to me was far beyond your fault. You were elsewhere in the city, engaged with Leviathan. I was doing what I could to help you It was my own failings that led me to the position I am in. Do you understand?"
no subject
Carbuncle let's out a quiet chirp when Ignis comes closer and immediately squirms out of Noct's arms so he can sprawl across both their laps.
He wanted to protect you! The Espeon's tails flicked as he looked back at Noct before nuzzling against Ignis's arm. The prince's shoulders sagged a bit and then he sort of just fell against the older man as a hand came to rest on Carbuncle's back.
"We were suppose to all protect one another. It's not just about me--it shouldn't have been about me."
no subject
"It is about you."
He might as well try to explain at least some of it. Of what they could understand, of the twisted words Ardyn would use.
"You're... the most important person in Eos. Not by your choosing. And all three of us would change places with you for the sake of protecting you. But we can't. So instead... we protect you, to get you to where you need to be."
Ignis lifts his arm to rest it around Noctis.
"More importantly, Noct, you're the most important person to me. And I would lose my sight a thousand times over and give every other sense if it meant you lived one day longer, understand?"
no subject
Things had just changed so much.
The arm around his shoulders is a comfortable presence and Noct leans further into the other man's embrace, closing his eyes.
"...I do..I just.." His voice was soft, breaking every now and then as he tried to get words out. "I don't want...I want you guys to be okay. I don't care what happens to me. I just.."
He didn't want to lose anymore people that he loved.
no subject
"Noct, worry less for the future while you're here. You should embrace what you have, what this world is giving you. I want you to enjoy it."
There honestly was nothing Ignis could say about the future that would bring Noctis comfort. It never comforted Ignis and he was living it. The most he could do was convince Noctis to focus on the now.
"I will worry less as well. And perhaps we can convince Prompto to do the same."
no subject
"Easier said than done sometimes," Noctis muttered through a sight, head resting against Ignis's shoulder now. At least, if nothing else, he had two of his three friends here with him now and no matter what was waiting for them back home, they had least had this. Here and now.
"...He..doesn't know anything. When we first got here, he didn't even remember starting the trip. For him, we haven't even left Insomnia yet."
no subject
"I see."
His voice was a low, thoughtful murmur. It certainly had to be hard on Prompto. The man he grew into was strong, confident.. everything this young man here would want to be. It would be a change to treat Prompto with more delicacy than he had for many years.
"He could use as many good memories here as possible then."
no subject
"Yeah..definitely," he murmured, fidgeting slightly as if trying to get comfortable but, in reality, he's trying to decide how he wants to approach another subject that probably needs to be brought to the table.
"...He and I are...we're dating."
Blunt is apparently the way he's going to go about it.
"It--we started dating a few months after we got here."
no subject
Then Noctis reveals that little bit of information and it was.. surprising but.. at the same time not so terribly a shock.
"I see. I had always thought the two of you were close. He always looked at you in a certain way."
If the world had been different Ignis sometimes thought that they would have come together. Without the engagement, without the prophecy and expectations.
"It is good, that you're getting to experience happiness with him. That he gets to have you." For what time there was.
"I hope you didn't believe I would tell you this was wrong...?"
no subject
"...I wasn't sure what you'd say, honestly, considering I'm suppose to be marrying Luna," Noctis admitted almost sheepishly. And he did care about Luna, quite a bit, but it was different with Prompto. He just meant a lot more to him than Luna.
Taking a deep breath the prince sat himself up and ran a hand through his hair.
"But I appreciate it. You being cool about it, I mean," he said softly now, his hand slipping down to rub at the back of his neck.
no subject
"I can only see it as a positive. You deserve to experience all you can."
It wasn't as if Ignis bothered himself. Too much to focus on.
"I hope he begins feeling more like himself. I am sorry to have stressed him."
He could apologize but it wouldn't change anything unfortunately.
no subject
"Just give him some time. I'll talk to him, too."
no subject
"You should get some sleep."
He gives Noctis a light nudge.
"I can keep watch." Obviously forgetting that there wasn't a need to. Perhaps he just wasn't ready to risk further nightmares.
