Lover's Tiff
Who: Pamela Isley and Newt Scamander [Closed]
Where: Ilex Forest
When: 9th March [Backdated]
Summary: Newt has somehow upset Ivy and has to deal with that
Rating: PG I guess?
Log:
Ivy is not stupid. When she'd returned from tending to her garden and checking in on her free roaming Pokemon to find Newt and Credence had vanished from the house it had been a surprise but not worrying.
Their possessions and Pokemon were still here, their gear's still registered as 'active'. She simply assumed Newt had gotten wrapped up in something he found exciting and had rushed off, dragging Credence with him for educational value.
While she wasn't pleased to be have been forgotten about, she went about her business with the idea that they would be returning at some point later in the day or perhaps early morning tomorrow at the latest.
But no. The days stretched and she found herself becoming irritated. Not by the length, no. It was the complete lack of any form of communication over the next week that had bristled her. Prickled at her skin like the plants she loved to cultivate. Fanned a familiar flame of anger that made her bundle an armful of her belongings and return to her own campsite, leaving Newt's Pokemon to his cottage to do at they pleased.
She was used to this. Like the early days with Harley, when she would come blazing in and out of her life whenever she so pleased, like Ivy was a unimportant novelty or distraction. And Pam really shouldn't have forgotten her years of being distrusting of men because her gut instinct always turned out to be right.
Pamela really should know better. The party and gifts and trips aside, Newt was a human. He was a man. It was foolish of her really, to forget how those two things could be, especially in combination.
Well, as she said, she was used to this. She throws herself back into her work, refusing to let such a thing bother her, despite the fact it clearly does.
Pam's exposed arms give a shiver in the cold air, (the sweater Newt gave her discard in a pile beside her bed alongside his other previous gifts) but ignores it and continues to check on her sprouting seedlings.

So off they'd gone, Newt taking several of his companions with him and leaving Queenie in charge of things with plans to be back in no more than a week's time--
And of course he'd forgotten the most important thing.
Arriving home after their adventure Newt had been surprised not to see Pamela anywhere and even more surprised when both Queenie and Jacob had just given him exasperated looks. Neither would tell him what it was he'd done wrong, though, and Newt was left to think it through over night, never really coming to a solid conclusion. When morning came he set out early on his own to track Pamela down, more nervous than he wanted to admit because something was wrong. He'd missed something; forgotten something but what was it. Had he done something wrong before he left? Did something happen while he was gone?
He was so lost in thought that he arrived at her garden in no time and stopped on the edges of it.
"..Pamela?"

Beside her is the ever faithful Tyler, who sends Newt a sympathetic smile, and the bouncy Brookyln, who had been skipping around gleefully and now huffs over dramatically and turns her head up at Newt.
Pamela waits until she's finished with this particular seedling before she responds, moving onto the next, focus still clearly on the plants in front of her.
"Can I help you, Mr Scamander?"
no subject
Mr. Scamander.
Oh he had definitely done something wrong.
"Ah--is--did...I forgot something, didn't I?" he said hesitantly, knowing he was probably toeing very thin ice and admitting that he had no idea what he had done wasn't going to help but. Newt cleared his throat and shifted his weight from one foot to the other, fighting the urge to look away from Pam. Stay focused. Stay. Focused. "Pamela, what--please, could you stop for just a moment?"
no subject
Probably more. Because he says the word 'forgot'. Yes, definitely more.
She sighs, because she believes this is going to be a fruitless endeavor, and rises, tugging the gardening gloves from her hands. Her hip cocks so that she can rest her palm there and raise a brow at him skeptically.
"What is it?"
no subject
"I--" Saying he was sorry would be stupid considering he had just stated he didn't know what he had done.
Stop and think Newt. Slow down and think. He'd been gone with Credence for the past week so perhaps something had happened while he was away or maybe he had left something unattended by mistake--
Wait a moment.
The wizard frown slightly, staring down at the ground then turned his head slightly so he was looking at his shoes. All at once his shoulders sagged.
"I didn't tell you we were leaving--I didn't tell you we'd be gone." Of all the things to forget. His gaze shot up to focus on her then away again, Newt fiddling with the button on the cuff of his sleeve. "Pamela, I..I didn't intend to--Credence suggested going to the Ruins and I got ahead of myself which doesn't excuse not telling you."
This explains why Jacob and Queenie had been so exasperated as well. Gods he was an idiot.

She waits, very patiently and kindly for someone scorned she might add, as he puzzles his wrongdoings out. Brooklyn coils around her legs like a cat, pressing and rubbing, still refusing to acknowledge Newt. Tyler continues to offer relaxed smiles of support.
By the time Newt speaks, she's moved to cross her arms in front of her chest. "No, you didn't." She agrees, still looking at him with a carefully blank expression. "But you get excitable about these things, it's understandable."
Pamela is keeping her tone carefully nonchalant. "I'm just glad that we've established that this is not a relationship you are invested in before it became too deep." She shrugs. "Though I would prefer to be told that you are interested in a casual fling beforehand."
no subject
He's honestly just confused now. Still maybe just a little terrified that she may lash out because, well, she can be a rather frightening individual when she wants to be.
But congratulations, Pamela. You've thoroughly confused Newt Scamander.
"Why would you even think that was the case?"
no subject
"It's clear that after you left I never once crossed your mind." Ivy pauses, refusing to let this discussion rile her. "Yes, you forgot in the moment of leaving. But you were gone for-" She looks down at Brooklyn for a moment. "A week, is it?" The Leafeon nods.
Pamela returns her calculated gaze to Newt. "A week of radio silence from you. While one might expect you to realize some time later and send a message, I never received even an unrelated attempt at communication. It's obvious the very thought of speaking or seeing me at all was the furthest thing from your mind."
Her brows raise again, as if challenging him to debate with her. "It seems clear to me that means our relationship is not something you put much value or priority into."
no subject
A thousand different things to say went through his mind because navigating the ruins had been a challenge and then there had been the mess with that impish Gastly of Credence's replacing him for a bit and then the run in with the Spiritomb--
But each and every one of them would just sound like excuses.
"You are absolutely right," Newt said softly, shoulders sagging. "It was ignorant of me and you should have been a priority. Telling you should have been a priority and it wasn't. I let myself get far too caught up in my own excitement and once there it was just a whirlwind." He kept his gaze on her, held her gaze even because he knew he needed to. He needed her to know that he meant it and he did feel horrible and even if she didn't forgive him that was..it was her right now to. It wasn't alright, by any means, because he cared for her dearly but he was the one that made the mistake here. "I do care about you, Pamela, far more than I've let myself care for anyone in quite some time. But I understand if you'd like me to go. If you..."
He pauses, frowning as he glances down and it's clear the frown is directed at himself.
"I would like to make it up to, to prove to you that you do mean something to me but I would not blame you in the least if you didn't want to give me another chance."
no subject
She can see how earnest he is and she sighs out her nose because she knows it's working on her. She falls for this every time Harley pulls this stunt, of course she'd do the same for Newt.
"I am by no means expecting to be most important thing to you at all times of the day." Pamela explains, words still calm and collected. "And you are not a child, you can come and leave as you please. I'm simply asking for some consideration."
It's now she allows herself be to somewhat sarcastic. "Just the slightest thought in your mind would be nice." Then drops to accusing. "Unless you take some joy out of making me feel unimportant and forgettable?"
no subject
"Why would I take joy in that?" he asked sincerely, looking at her again with a momentary hurt look before it faded into something more defeated again. No, not defeated. More a look of acceptance that this was his fault and he needed to find a way to fix it properly. "You deserve to know when I plan on going somewhere and I know you would offer me that courtesy in return." It was give and take. "I..have always been forgetful when it comes to most things but I will do my best--I will better myself in that way so this does not happen again, Pamela, if you will allow me."
A pause.
"Though I, ah, cannot promise I won't stumble...a lot. A situation like this, however, will not happen again," he said firmly before tilting his head just the slightest bit. There was nothing pleading in his gaze nor his tone. That's not what this was about and he hoped she knew that. "If and only if you are willing to allow me another chance."
no subject
There's an audible sigh this time and her eyes raise skywards. "Very well." She'll accept his attempts. Second chances and all that tripe. It would be lying to say she wouldn't miss him if she cut him out now.
Pamela still regards him carefully though. "Well, like I said, I'm not stupid enough to assume I'm a priority in things regarding you." And it was clear now that was never going to happen. "Or anticipate perfection, it's an foolish thing to demand."
She unfolds her arms finally, seeming less hostile now and instead exasperated. You've really let her down, Newt. "I will keep my expectations low. Do not disappoint me."
no subject
"Thank you," he said softly and now hesitation began to creep back into his frame, a slight twitch in his fingers as he looked from her to her Pokemon then around at the garden. "I..would you like me to leave you alone for now?" Give her space. "Or did you--would you like any help with your work?"
The least he could do was offer and if she refused, she refused. But he had to make an effort.
no subject
"I'm done for the day. I just wanted to make sure the chill wasn't getting to the sproutlings."
Stuffing her gloves into her pocket and brushing off her hands, she carefully steps her way over to him to leave the garden. On her way past, she puts her face in his. "You are incredibly lucky I find you endearing."
Pamela heads for her overgrown campsite, calling back over her shoulder as she strides. "Oh, I should mention. I'm not moving back in unless invited. So if you 'forget' that also, do not expect to see me."
no subject
And then Pamela was there and in his face and the wizard can't help the way his breath hitches and he holds it. Not that he was expecting her to do anything to him but that was just a rather sudden moment and--yes he was lucky. Very lucky. He nods quickly to show that he understands, staying still and watching her head for the campsite.
"I had expected as much...you are welcome to move back in whenever you are ready to, Pamela," Newt called after her, staying where he was for the moment. And then very suddenly a semi-guilty look crosses his face. "There may--ah--be a few more creatures about but I promise to keep as many of them out of the house as I can I just met quite a few at the Ruins that decided to return with us and--"
No, stop. Rambling. Stop it.
Newt cleared his throat, glancing skyward.
"I..should be going then. Back to the cottage, that is. I--there are probably several Togepi causing a fuss.."
no subject
Her brow is up again. "Why would I be bothered if there are creatures were in the house?" It was hardly like his cottage had been empty when she'd first moved in. It was cramped, yes, but not especially unclean.
Pamela's eyes roll, already unimpressed. "Of course. I'll be seeing you around Olivine then."
no subject
"That's not--I don't expect you to do the leg work with anything, Pamela," Newt countered with a slight frown now, confusion creeping into his expression. She was going to make this extremely difficult, wasn't she? Almost impossibly so. "I'm not entirely sure what else you would have me do right now. You...it's almost as if you don't want me to make this right. You're certainly trying to set the bar high enough to make it near impossible."
Alright, now he can't help but sound a bit defeated because she's started to wear him down. He understands that he was in the wrong not giving her a heads up that he was going to be gone with Credence for a week but this was getting a bit out of hand now. He was a wizard without magic, Pamela. He can't create miracles right now.
"I figured you might want to have some space for the two of us to try and sort this out should you move back in. I know you care for the Pokemon just as much as I do, I would never think otherwise on that so please don't try and use that against me," he added, shaking his head slightly. "If you truly think this isn't going to work and that my--that what I've done is that terrible then why give me another chance?"
no subject
Pamela scowls at that defeated look of his. "Forgive me for not spelling it out for you. Allow me to elaborate." For goodness sake, he really could be oblivious if it came to anything that wasn't a creature, couldn't he?
"I have just been forgotten for a whole week, I do not want time apart." She's crossed the space and is in his face again now. But her scowl is gone and her eyes aren't flashing with any anger or danger. "Think about this for me, petal. If I didn't want this to work, why would I give you another chance and imply I would like to move back in?"
A sly smirk has crossed her face. "Could it possibly be that I want you to ask to spend time with me and I'm giving you the opportunity to make things up to me?"
no subject
"What?" The wizard said it rather dumbly and stared at Pamela for a moment only for things to finally click into place.
Oh..oh what an idiot he'd been.
The tension drains out of him and he lifts a hand to press his fingers to his forehead, closing his eyes briefly.
"Oh Pamela...I...I really have been an idiot, haven't I?"
no subject
Her hands slide their way around his neck to link together. "I missed you. Even if you didn't miss me." It's not said with any undertone, just as fact. After all, if he had missed her he would have called her.
And while that bristled her and yes, a mistake had been made, it had also been addressed. There was no point to bringing it up again. Newt had already promised to try, refusing to move on or dragging this out would do nothing but hurt feelings. As far as Ivy was concerned, the discussion had been had and they could simply resume their relationship. Ivy never understood how people outside of teenagers had trouble with this concept.
She presses her lips to Newt's to let him know all ill feelings were done with. She would much prefer going back to sleeping beside him than staying out here by herself and she saw no reason to lie about it.
"Now, are you going to invite me back so I can gather my things and come over to see who you've brought back from your trip? Or do I actually need to get mad with you?"
no subject
Newt returns the light kiss, leaning into it just a bit and letting a quiet sigh escape him as she draws back.
"...Pamela, would you care to move back in? Give me another chance to prove that I can be more than the absent minded fool I've been thus far?" the wizard said softly, his gaze on the ground briefly before he looks up to meet her gaze. "I..despite how many Pokemon there are around, it's quite empty without you there and I would very much like to have you back."
no subject
At his little confession a pleased hum escapes her lips. "Well that's certainly nice to hear." She pulls his head down to whisper in his ear teasingly. "It's also very lonely in a bed without you." Then kisses said ear.
no subject
"I should be the one thanking you," Newt murmured only to have his head pulled down and there she goes whispering into his ear like usual. He shivers and let's out a soft hum of a noise. "I..felt much the same last night especially." The kiss to his ear is nice but in a moment of boldness he draws back only to lean in and kiss her properly. "Is there anything left here that you need help with or that you need help in carrying back?"
no subject
no subject
"It would be my pleasure to assist you with your things, Pamela," he said softly, leaning in the short distance to kiss her again. "Whatever you need me to carry, I will gladly do so."
no subject
no subject
"..No, no I don't think I do," he murmured as he focused on her and gave her a faint grin before leaning into return the kiss, holding her close as he allows himself to have this moment. To do this without worry or hesitation because that's the least he can do for Pamela.
