Who: Newt!
Where: from Violet City to Goldenrod
When: Throughout the month of August
Summary: Four different video and text posts Newt puts on the network in the month of August as he travels to Goldenrod City, compiled into one log
Aug 1st
[The video feed begins abruptly- the screen is blurry, there's a finger in the shot, and the screen shakes as Newt tries to adjust the PokeGear in his hands. Finally, the screen focuses on a very annoyed Glameow, sitting primly on a pillow on the motel room's floor. Her whiskers twitch and her ears as back as she glares up at her trainer, unimpressed.]
Meeeoooooow.
Yeah?
Glaaaaaameo.
You don't say?
[The Glameow's tail lashes. She's frustrated now.]
Mrrrooowwww!
What's that? Huh? Are you trying to tell me something?
MEOWW!
Do you want.... food?
GLAAAAAAMEEEEOOOW.
[She stands up, yowling into the camera while Newt tries to keep himself from giggling.]
Is that what you want? Huh? Well, guess what?
[The camera pans quickly over to a completely full food bowl.]
You've got food! It's right there! Do you see it, Princess?
[Newt pans back towards the Glameow, who still looks unimpressed.]
Mrrrrrow.
What's that? You don't like that food because it's too cheap? You want only the most expensive food I can possibly find in the entire store?
Mrrr.
Ok, baby. [The camera jostles around as Newt puts aside the bowl of Pokemon food, places down an empty bowl, and fills it with an identical-looking[but presumably more expensive] type of Pokemon kibble. Within seconds, the Glameow rushes over and starts eating, chewing noisily. Newt turns the PokeGear's camera to face himself.]
So, like. When The Princess hatched a few days ago, she literally refused any food I tried to give her. Like, she'd eat a couple bites if she was really hungry, but otherwise? Nothing. So I was obviously really worried, and I started going through the aisles of Pokemon food and buying different bags of food and offering her some, and I finally found this really fancy brand- and this is the only thing she'll eat. And it costs me a few hundred PokeDollars more than everything else.
What the hell, man.
[On the bright side, he doesn't look angry- if anything, he's thrilled that she's finally eating.]

Aug 6th
[This video starts with an establishing shot of a nearby forest. It's kind of peaceful looking, actually.]
So. So. My... Gible? I think that's what it's called- he hatched yesterday, and he was pretty chilled out at first, but ever since this morning he's been getting into everything. Like, he tore some of my new shirts to threads, and he almost took my hand off this morning, and that's just, like, the tip of the iceberg. It's cool, I didn't expect that a baby landshark dragon would be an easy thing to care for, so I don't really mind too much. But I think I've already figured out the way to get him to expand his energy and not destroy me or my stuff. Look-
[Newt finally turns the camera to show a Trapinch and a Gible rough-housing together in the grass.]
Look at that! I was kinda worried to let either of these guys play with my other Pokemon, because I thought their teeth would probably hurt the hell out of the squishier ones, especially the other babies, but these two are like- made for each other! They've been playing for hours and it's so cute because they're putting all their might into it, like it's a fight that actually matters and they're not essentially just two toddlers playing in the sandbox.
[The Trapinch has its jaws locked around the Gible's head fin, but the Gible rolls over clumsily, knocking the Trapinch onto the ground. The Trapinch lands on its back and flails its limbs furiously, jaw snapping open and closed. The Gible makes an odd noise- almost like laughter?- that turns into spluttering as the Trapinch kicks up a Sand Attack.]
I could really watch this all day, let me tell ya. I know people've been telling me that, like, baby Pokemon grow up at an accellerated rate and stuff but they still are babies, you know? And-
[The Gible's mouth starts glowing orange, and Newt cuts off with a surprised noise. It takes him a second to realize what it is, and the video feed turns hectic and Newt stands up and runs over to the baby dragons, trying to stop the oncoming Flamethrower before it's too late.]
Hey, hey, no- Slattern, no, don't do it, don't-
[Aaaaand the video cuts out.]

soooo idk if this is like a bug or w/e but i caught a pokemon but the pokedex shows it as like a completely different color from what it actually is?

[This video appears to take place in a hotel room. In view of the camera are most of Newt's Pokemon- a Spritzee and shiny Tranquill perched on the windowsill, a Trapinch "playing" with a Clamperl by trying to force the clamshell open, a wiggling Tynamo outspeeding the Gible chasing her around...]
So, Goldenrod City's been pretty cool! I've done some shopping. I finally got a new leather jacket like what I had back home- won't be able to wear it much until winter, but it's nice to have one again. And I've also been doing a bit of research.
Apparently a few of my Pokemon need items to evolve- Yamarashi I already knew about, but Raythe and Powder Puff, too. And I've been wondering if I should I go ahead and buy those items, now, so I'll have them when I'm ready for it. Or should I just use them now? ... I dunno. It sounds stupid, but I guess I feel like I haven't really earned the right to use them, just yet, since I've only been here for a month or so.
Do any of you guys have Pokemon that evolve with items? When did you decide it was finally time to use them?

August 6, video;
If you have any Everstones around, hide them from these guys. My Gible ate one and my friend's Trapinch did too.
[Jean isn't even slightly bothered by this.]
no subject
An Everstone? Is that another one of those evolution stones, or what?
no subject

no subject
[Take Spheals, for example. Or Gibles. Why would you ever evolve perfection?]
They still can learn all the same moves, they just stay in their base form. They also don't have to eat the Everstones; they can just hold them, and then if you change your mind, you take the stone away.

[Jean laughs at the memory.]
For my Spheal, though... he has one, but he chooses to carry it. I also had a Rattata that got all the way to level 100 and never evolved. They make their own choices, and I don't think we have much control over what they decide, at the end of the day.
Aug 1 [Video]
I think seeing that food made my Pokemon want some. What brand is it?
[Not that she plans on buying any of it. Five fingered discount is much more reasonable.]
no subject
It's something like "Glameow-rous Feast". So I've got a Glameow who refuses to eat anything but something with her name on it.
no subject
frighteningCheerful smile.]Yeah that sounds about right.
Be honest, if someone named a sandwhich after you wouldn't you eat them as often as you could without getting sick of them?
no subject
no subject
Now if any food were to be named after me it should be a dessert. Preferably one that's decedent.
no subject
Somethin' like... the Jinx special. I dunno.
no subject
Would you go with a burger for the food to memorialize you? I'm thinking of some kind of ice cream cake or something. Something that you can enjoy with tea and fancy frilly goth clothes.
no subject
Ice cream cake is cool, though, you're right.
no subject
Like ok, my name makes sense because I'm bad luck. But did you ever ask your parents why they named you what they named you?
no subject
My uncle named me, actually- after Sir Isaac Newton! Guess he hoped I'd turn out to be a kickass scientist who'd go down in history, too, and it worked.
no subject
[Well Uncle isn't exactly a line but oh well.]
So you went down in history? What'd you discover?
no subject
[Great, you've given him a chance to brag. Newt straightens up, looking proud of himself.]
Oh, nothing much. I just became the world's foremost expert in Kaiju xenobiology and figured out how to save the world as a result.
no subject
Well I mean, good for you! Was that a big problem where you came from or did it only become a problem later?
[Giant monsters aren't so weird in the DC animated universe...not an everyday occurrence but not unheard of.]
no subject
[No need to talk about what happened afterwards, nope. Newt's too busy being full of himself.]
no subject
Boy you lucked out big time huh?
no subject
Like, the idea of giant monsters called Kaiju already existed, and I knew a lot about them, but that was like, fiction? And then the Kaiju attacked and started ruining everything, and then I took it upon myself to work on figuring out a whole new branch of science and, yadda yadda, world gets saved a bunch of years later.
Because of me. And other people too. But a lot of it was me.
no subject
Buuuut it's pretty lucky they turned out to be real. What else would you have done with that expertise?
I mean I'm not saying that you might be a super villain who created the monsters in the first place, but it would be a brilliant application of your knowledge.
no subject
I mean, it's not like they were the only thing I've ever been interested in? I've got 6 PhDs, my dude. I had a bunch of classes to teach. Had a lot of other shit under my belt when, you know, people started getting murdered by giant monsters.
no subject
Where I come from super villains are a dime a dozen and I was trained to think like them. Usually when giant monsters appeared it was someone's fault.
Hmm, now that I think about it I wonder what the biggest pokemon would be. I saw a movie about a giant mutant tentacruel attacking a seaside town.

wait
oh my god really
i thought those were supposed to be super rare what the hell
no subject
CONGRATS!
August 24th
Do you have a psychic type who can translate for you?
no subject
... they can do that?
[The entire concept of being able to verbally communicate back and forth with his Pokemon is blowing Newt's mind a little.]
August 1st
My brother's one was the same way. Super snobby.
Only wanted people food.
And then he'd get mad if whatever you were eating wasn't fancy enough.
no subject
no subject
Better get yourself a job.
Or a Persian.
Those are snobs too but they can make you money at least.
no subject
How's a cat gonna make me money, exactly?
no subject
[OH BOY SHE GETS TO MAKE THIS GUY'S DAY. Or maybe make him super frustrated if he can't get his hands on a Meowth.]
Okay, so, the Persian line-- and ONLY the Persian line-- can learn a move called "Payday".
Which involves hurling coins at your opponent. Which are just laying around afterwards for anyone to take.
Where do the coins come from?
No idea.
Not your own pockets, that's for sure.
[SOUNDS FAKE? WELL SURE BUT. THERE YOU GO.]
So, free money.
no subject
[Newt's got the widest eyes right now he is so fucking excited]
If you're not screwing with me, then you just made, like, my whole year. I gotta get like, five of these little bastards.
no subject
Like a Pokemon that could magically... I don't know, summon beers and a hot babe whenever you want.
[SHE'S PRETTY SURE THERE'S NO POKEMON THAT CAN DO THAT.]
[... ARCEUS MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO THAT.]
