invisiblepumpkin: (don't care what comes after)

Video / 1

[The video starts off blurry, before focusing on a blonde teenager sitting back against a tree with a Shinx’s tail flicking up into the view of the camera every so often. Soft purrs could just barely be heard over the background of other forest sounds, but the blonde girl paid no attention to any of it.]

Roxy here. So, I woke up yesterday to find that I am now, well, here. In this world. Given food by a nice lady I don’t know and herded out the door like a cross-eyed cat, and then the next thing I know I’m actually handed a pokemon called Shinx who is just the most adorable thing I’ve seen so far in my life.

And then a whirlwind of information gets thrown at my face like yes okay I’m supposed to be gatherin lots of the pokemons and breedin them and making stronger ones that I could then give ‘way to other breeders or trainers for money, but what’s the way you get to that point. Do you travel a lot first? Do you make the pokemon you first get, like my lil Neon here, stronger? Is there a specific method to this that someone has found out works well?

[The girl does look frazzled. Her hair doesn’t look brushed at all and her mouth was set into a straight line. Even with Roxy trying her best at remaining both calm and neutral in her facial expression, there were slips. A twitch into a frown here, her eyebrows drawing together there.]

But see, thing is, I don’t know much about what to do from here, at least not what to do first thing. From the sounds of it bein a trainer is pretty straightforward but I’d… rather not?

[This came out as more of a question than a statement like how she meant it to be.]

And like, I’m just feelin kinda lost here so whatever tips and tricks of the trade people can give me, either by way of a text response or another video or however you feel like doin it, I’d appreciate it. Just a bit overwhelmed, is all, not like I’m panickin here.

[She doesn’t know what she’s supposed to do, and toward the end one might discern that she’d wanted to say more, to ramble even, but the moment passes as quick as it came.]

[The first thing that comes through as a response is a clatter as someone's Pokegear falls onto the ground, flips, bounces, and lays on its side, showing a gaggle of surprised Pokemon, the most prominent of which is the Audino who hurries over and scoops the 'gear up with a questioning trill, holding it up to-]

Holy shit, Roxy, is that really you?!

[If the voice didn't tip Roxy off, the familiar face that now fills the screen should. She's a couple years older than she should be, but that is definitely Jane Crocker, and she is surprised and beaming and a little flushed but altogether very excited.]

Oh my gosh - oh gosh, you're - good golly gracious!! You must be back at the beginning of things, right? Route 29? I think I can do the transport-y thing to get close and fly the rest of the way to meet you - oh my goodness, I didn't think anyone would come back!!
cyan_maid: (Goodness gracious me!)

[Ah...so Roxy didn't remember being here. That's - it was fine, it's fine, these things happen and Roxy was back, that's what mattered. She sort of shifts in and out of view, carrying her 'gear with her as she darts around what is definitely a little house someplace, gathering supplies.]

I'm out in Goldenrod City! We've - I've got a house here, a-and so many people live in this area that are from other worlds, too, it's so crazy! I know this all sounds like complete hogwash coming from me of all people, but there's - there's so much about this place that's unbelievable and weird but also true!! And oh, you're going to need to be filled in on it all over again, huh? That's okay, we'll have time! Though I'm guessing if I teleport to Cherrygrove and then we fly...it's going to take me at least a day or two to meet up with you, but it'll work out, it will! And then we can come back up to the city by walking, that'll take a few days, but there's other places along the way we can stop and-

[The feed clicks off - though likely on accident, her 'gear probably bumped something as she was stuffing the essentials into her backpack.]

Well it wasn't my idea to start, it was - it was Dave's idea. He'd been here for a while and wanted one, so we agreed and split the rent and all that...I end up working at the Pokemon Center to cover it myself, but it's not that hard, they pay well and Dinah can heal, so they actually like it when I'm on the clock.

[She giggles a little at Roxy's rambling as she continues to get ready.] Oh, all of the places are worthy! At least, I hope they will be for you, too - shall that depend on the number of cats that can be found? Depending on the town or city, you can find lots of cats.

I-It's fine! I've been travelling and needing to take breaks for Bettina, anyway.

[She tried warping as much as possible and got dizzy after the first one. Still, impatient to see her friend, Jane decided Flying on her Crobat was the best solution, but no Pokemon can fly straight for hours without a break.]

Are you alright? Your last message ended with a bit of a clatter...
cyan_maid: (Mm-hm!)

No more a riot than usual, I promise.

[Though watch Jane get distracted trying to catch CATS for her bffsie.]

[GRANDPA'S HERE TO GIVE ADVICE it's fine he's helping. And he vaguely recalls Roxy -- a Roxy -- giving him advice when he first arrived. It's time to pay that forward, even though he's fairly certain this is a different Roxy altogether from the way she's talking. Alternate universes and all that. It's fine, he's used to it.]

This may not be what you're hoping to hear, but there is no singular 'method'. You aren't even necessarily obligated to follow the role this universe assigned to you on your arrival; I was given the identification of a Breeder and I recently finished collecting all sixteen badges, something generally considered a Trainer's domain.

My advice would simply be to pick a direction and start walking.

This universe is remarkably welcoming to non-native arrivals if I'm being honest. We're set up with travel supplies, valid government ID, what passes for employment, and we are immediately entrusted with one of the creatures that this world bases its entire economy and culture around. We're given every tool possible to make a life here, so I'm sure you'll find something that appeals to you eventually.

If I had to give a concrete recommendation, I would say that if you intend to do any serious breeding you're going to want to expand your roster. A Pokémon can't make eggs on its own, remarkable though that would be.
meteorman: (34 | check it out)

If you have any questions going forward or would like any supplementary reading (as the breeder's handbook provided upon arrival is very basic), my name is Dr. Standford Pines and you can reach me over the 'gear just about any time.

[He doesn't sleep.

Okay, that's a lie, he does. Just not regularly or at hours it would be normal to sleep at.]

I also do have a surplus of eggs if you'd like any to kickstart your team. No payment required.

I do happen to have Growlithe eggs. How about this. When you have surplus eggs of your own I'll take one off your hands in return.

[Equal exchange! That's fair, right? Not that he needs more Pokémon when he's got upwards of sixty of them already, but that hasn't stopped him gathering up three new eggs literally in the last month so whatever.]

[Yeah jeez why is this cool teenager more reticent to just hashtag yolo than a seventy-one-year-old. Roxy, who hurt you.

(It was Andrew Hussie. Andrew Hussie did it).]

Wonderful. We'll consider it something of an IOU. I can send that egg along now if you'd like; it will deposit automatically into your PC.

[OOC: You may have already found it but a list of all Ford's available eggs (including those Growlithe eggs) is here! ALSO WELCOME TO THE GAME I'm Ink and true story like four years ago I considered apping Roxy so now this is the best of both worlds.]

From what I've been able to figure out since arriving, it's all a matter of..finding what works for you? I'm not very fond of battling and I try to avoid it as much as possible but some of my Pokemon enjoy it..

[Which means Chise has had to get the hang of it, at least for the sake of her more battle inclined companions.

Like the Rockruff that pokes his head up into view, peering at Roxy curiously as Chise rests a hand on his head gently.]

It..may not seem like there are many options at first but there really are. You can make friends with as many or as few Pokemon as you want and travel wherever you want here.

[Having this much freedom is something very new to her and it's amazing.]

Yeah they give you the trainer manual and everything but you really don't have to do any of that if you don't want to.

I mean there's people here that find jobs they like and do those and others just do everything they can. Or just travel a lot. My sister, Mabel and I have been doing a lot of travelling.

The first few days are kinda tough as you get your legs under you, but the beauty of the Pokemon world is you can do whatever you want! They do say you're a breeder or a trainer, but honestly? You don't have to do any of that at all if you don't want to.

When I first got here I traveled a bit to see the sights. I'd battle other trainers, but usually I'd just get some part time job in whatever city I was in to make money. They're really generous with their wages, so you don't have to worry much. And I'd make some more Pokemon friends along the way! They're the most fun part of this world.

After I'd done enough traveling, I found a town I liked and settled down. I've got a steady job, and even though I'm a breeder technically, I've ever gotten a single egg. [He laughs.] My Pokemon are mostly performers, like I am, or more like... really independent pets! And we all chill out and live together. It's a nice life!

Was that helpful at all? I can give more specific tips if you need them!

Mostly music! I have a few Pokemon that like to sing, like my Primarina and Altaria, or make music somehow, like my Kricketune and Chimecho. Sometimes we'll put on shows with the help of my other Pokemon. My Electrode is a great mobile power source for a sound system.

We really love the contests that happen every so often, which is basically like a Pokemon talent show. I wish they happened more regularly!

[personal profile] forsaintcecilia 2018-10-01 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah! Basically you team up with one Pokemon to put on an act together. There are five categories: Cool, Beauty, Smart, Tough and Cute. You do your best to match the theme of the category with your performance. I did a dance routine for the Cute contest before with Honk Tonky while he was still a Brionne.

Right now they happen twice a year, but we're hoping they change it to three or four sometime soon!
