[Connor's pokegear is focused on three badges set neatly on a table at first- the Zephyr badge, the Hive badge, and the Plain badge. When Connor moves the camera back up to himself, he's smiling. Crockett, his Magnezone, looms behind him.]

My pokemon have worked hard for me, so I was wondering. Does anyone know of any good ways to treat pokemon? Especially ones that I can't feed, like Crockett here.

[The Magnezone lets out a loud beep and hovers closer, red eye peering over Connor's shoulder.]

What makes your pokemon happy? I'd appreciate some ideas.

I think that depends on what your pokemon are like. I mean I have a few ghost pokemon that like when I give in and help them pull some pranks. And I have a Togepi and and Eevee that like when I play games with them.

So maybe personal attention?

Sparks likes nuts, Diefenbaker likes chew toys...

[The Pachirisu on Doreen's shoulder waves, and the Rockruff on her lap gives a short happy bark.]

My Raticate, Ralph, likes cooking shows. It really depends. If you want, we could ask and I can translate. Or at least Sparks can translate and I'll translate for Sparks.

I know Buntz likes to eat.

[A Pikachu hops up onto the Magnezone's body expectantly at the mention of eating.]

Crockett used to like being spun around when it was a Magnemite. That was its way of playing. It won't be easy to do that now that it's so large, though. And Rocky enjoys digging, but I'll have to take him to another route to do that. I don't think people would appreciate the large holes left behind in the city.

You can speak to your pokemon?

[Connor wishes he could do that. Well, he can in a way. He's come to learn what Crockett means through what kind of beeps it makes. He couldn't actively translate what it was saying, though.]

Just the squirrel-like ones. I have squirrel powers back home, and squirrel-speech is the only one that stuck around.

[Connor's eyebrows raise a little.]

Squirrel powers?

[That's a new one. Still, it seems interesting.]

Talking to animals must be fascinating. How does it work? Do you translate the sounds a squirrel makes, or do you hear them speaking to you clearly?

[Yes, he's temporarily forgotten the point of his post.]

How many Pokémon are you training, and what's your budget? A lot of Pokémon enjoy group activities and special trips, but if you'd like to thank fifty of them that might not be an option. Or would you prefer to give a smaller, personalized gift to each?

Yep, squirrel powers. Superpowers in general are pretty common where I'm from.

And I translate, I can even teach other people how to do it!

For a lot of mine it just depends on what they enjoy the most.

[Noct laughs as the lime green Espeon on his shoulders twills happily, ears perked forward.]

Carbuncle really likes treats. Bean, my Snorlax, really likes hats and things she can wear on her head in general like crowns and stuff. A few of my others like to play games. Others like to dress up. For some even training in new ways makes them really happy.

I've heard "grooming" is quite pleasant for pokemon.

Though I'm unsure how one would groom one made of metal.

Yeah probably not. But it might make a nice day trip!

Take some treats, figure out if you can still spin Crockett without anyone getting injured.

I have four with me right now. And both my travelling partner and I are working, so we have enough money to spend on the pokemon. A special trip sounds nice, but we're in Goldenrod for the winter and aren't really planning on travelling again until next year.

Perhaps a small gift would be better.

[He supposes squirrels must see and hear things that people don't. They probably would be useful in tailing someone, too.]

Superpowers don't exist where I'm from. I had abilities back home that I no longer have here, though.

[Connor smiles at the Espeon, and Crockett beeps again in the background in greeting.]

My pokemon seem to enjoy training, but I thought that maybe something else would be more enjoyable. I hadn't considered clothing, though. The last time I dressed them up was at Halloween. We dressed everyone as Slowpoke, since we were in Azalea Town. The pokemon seemed happy.

I wonder if there's clothing out there for a Magnezone.

[He turns to look at the pokemon thoughtfully.]

I could groom the Pikachu, perhaps. The Magnezone and Onix might be a little more difficult.

[Still, it's an idea for one of them.]

Unless I... polished them?

[Would that be the equivalent for metal and rock pokemon?]

I can try.

[Connor gets up and turns to grab the Magnezone by the side. It seems to know what he's doing, and beeps as it's spun around. It's slow, though. Connor puts his hands on his hips and gives Crockett a frown.]

You could help, you know. You're very heavy.

[He tries again, with Crockett actually helping a little this time. Buntz offers up a cheerful "pika!" as he's spun too. Connor sits back down, running a hand through his hair.]

It's not easy to do, but perhaps with help it won't be so difficult.

[He could still use other ideas, though.]

Perhaps. I would say it's worth a shot, if nothing else.

The effort could be worth just as much.

So that's one thing that's still possible. Maybe get a friend to help, or another pokemon.

[She's giving it some more thought.]

So there's the usual food slash treats. Games. Going places. Attention.

Hmm...

Maybe new clothing if they like that. Especially with winter coming soon. Oh, or take them to the arcade if you're near a place that has one. I'm in Goldenrod right now and mine like to visit that one. They also like exploring so that's an easy one.

Crockett does seem to enjoy it when we go out together. We're in Goldenrod, too. It likes to carry me around the streets. I never thought about clothing for it, and I'm not sure I could find anything for an Onix, but I'll have a look anyway.

[At the very least, Pikachu will be cute and warm.]

We'll see, I suppose. As long as they know that I'm grateful. I wouldn't want them to think that I took their hard work for granted.

[Now he just needs to figure out what he's going to polish them with.]

A small gift... Ribbons are oddly popular with most Pokémon, but not all species can wear them easily. HAve you considered toys, or maybe a movie you could all watch together?

Oh I bet you could find a scarf at least for an Onix, or maybe sew like five scarves together to make a super scarf.

Food as well, is a potent reward. Many places sell treats for just such the occasion.

Even if there isn't I bet you could find someone that could make stuff. A lot of Pokemon seem to enjoy dressing up though so I have to imagine that there's stuff out there for all of them.

We can all look fashionable! And fancy!

Hm. Well, someone already mentioned the massages, but there are other options. Toys, vacations, maybe a little one on one time.

[He shrugs.]

But I don't know how big your team is. Maybe you already do a lot of that.

That's a good idea. I'm not sure if an Onix can get cold but at least he'll look nice.

[And hopefully he'll appreciate the gift, too.]

I've never sewn before, but I can try.

[Strange, but he'll get them if it makes pokemon happy.]

We've bought plush toys for our pokemon before. They seemed to like them. A movie would be nice, too. I had never watched one before I came here, I quite enjoy them.

[And it seems like the pokemon do, too.]

I'll have to see what I can find. Goldenrod seems like a large place with many clothing stores, so I wouldn't be surprised to find something.

[Even if it's just something he can tie around the antenna.]

I hope it appreciates the thought, at least. I'm sure I'll soon find out if it doesn't like it.

Buntz does enjoy eating. I'm just not sure what I can feed Crockett. I've only ever seen it "eat" electricity.

I try to spend as much time as I can with them. And they do have toys, but I suppose more couldn't hurt.

[His bag is getting pretty full of them, though.]

I've seen more expensive toys out there. Perhaps I could take them shopping and let them pick out whichever one they like.

Plus it's a nice gift.

Oh, you should look online. There's probably some how to guides on basic sewing.

Perhaps it can indulge in the voltage from a high powered battery?

Ribbons. The fancier the better. I think they're sometimes awarded after winning contests and competitions, so maybe it gives them a certain prestige?

[Or maybe Pokémon just like cute things. Who knows?]

Have you watched the Invaders series of movies? I've found them to be particularly popular with my younger Pokémon, but the plot's engaging enough to interesting the older ones too.

There's a thought. And I guess accessories are an option, too- maybe some high end hold item? Maybe a new TM.

[Riku often goes for the latter... but he's known for bolstering his team's moves beyond what's actually needed.]

I think Crockett would appreciate a new TM, at least. He enjoys fighting the most.

[And he's Connor's strongest pokemon, too.]

I feel like after all these suggestions, my pokemon are going to be thoroughly spoiled. They deserve it, though.

Oh, what kind of competitions? I've been so focused on training and taking on gyms, I must have missed them.

[He shakes his head, but does perk up at the suggestion. Good, a recommendation.]

I'll look for it tonight. I'll let you know if they liked it.

It could. I bet there's a store in Goldenrod that sells one. What do you think, Crockett?

[The Magnezone lets out a series of beeps that probably means it agrees.]

There's been a few talent shows in the last few years, with Pokémon that sing or dance or show off their tricks. Less than a handful, though. I hear they're far more popular in other regions, but I've yet to find a plane or a boat that can bring us there.

[That one time with the jet doesn't count.]

If they do, I bet you can find plenty of similar movies in stores. can't promise the actors will be as talented, though.

No problem, I've been thinking of trying some hobbies I never got around to back home as well. It's a great place to try new things.

Ha. I'd say it's fine to spoil them, as long as you pace it, and as long as they earn it.

Plus, as long as you put your foot down when they step outta line... I don't think you'll run into too much trouble.

Just don't be like me and load up even the temperamental Pokemon with a ton of moves all at once.
