[It's been some time since Lust simply posed a vaguely self-relevant and general philosophy question to the network, but apparently it's that time. She's sitting at her desk in her room, the trio of small Espurr draped over her - one on each shoulder and one in her lap, just peering over the edge of the desk at the 'gear screen. There's a book open in front of her, and anyone willing to turn the screen to try and read it will discover it's a rather simplistic book on dream interpretation. Lust has been making corrective notes in it.]
Has anyone else ever noted how personal patterns develop?
The entertainment we seek out, the recreational activities, types of people... humans establish personal patterns and preferences. One wonders why.
I don't mean why we have preferences in general, but why we develop the ones that we do? One could argue it's a comfort of familiarity, but comfort isn't always a factor. Take those who's joy is found in risk taking and difficult tasks. Or those who seek out things that are bad for them.
[Or her own preference for damaged, emotionally crippled men.]
Simply something I've been thinking on. Sometimes it seems as though the phrase 'the logical mind' is grossly inappropriate.

[Although now at least he won't come out of the gate with WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL IT DOESN'T MATTER??]
[He also knows that SOMETHING usually prompts lines of questioning like this...]
Thinking of someone's habits in particular?
Well my own, for one. I've been looking back over my life here and seeing various patterns of my own design. Some make sense, but others...
Has that ever happened to you, in this life? You find yourself developing or discovering tastes or inclinations you never had before?
What, you mean like the entire time I've been in this world?
Before that...hm, probably a few here and there, depends on what you mean exactly. Four hundred years is a long time. But I didn't really have the chance to develop a whole lot of hobbies.
Besides the obvious.
[Creative murder, espionage.......although he does pause, thinking before he speaks again, his tone going very deliberately nonchalant instead of truly relaxed.]
Piano, I guess. Learned some once for a mission and liked it alright. I didn't ever let anybody else know about it, it seemed stupid. [And like it would get him in trouble somehow.]
I haven't had much time for it in a while, but I've kept up with it here now and then.
[SHRUG. NO BIG DEAL!!]
Really? I'd no idea. That's hardly foolish.
Hmmm...I guess I keep finding jobs with showy people. Miguel and Tulio, Joker, Jack...that's easy enough to figure out why, it's what I'm good at.
And ehh...it was back then. And it's hardly useful.
[Or befitting his more public persona.]
It may not be useful, but...did you enjoy it?
[And it's a nice change of pattern too. Working for someone, following directions...but as a friend, an equal, and not a tool.]
[Not that he's thinking too far into that, and the not thinking is very deliberate.]
[But by now he's thoroughly distracted by the strange awkward, uncomfortable feeling of talking about his more musical interest...not only because it's not something he talks much about anyway, but because it IS from before...and because it's with Lust, who was there then. He starts to look almost fidgety.]
I mean...sure, as much as I enjoyed anything. I was definitely interested in it.
[And it was something that had been his, and his alone. Not that he's about to put that into words.]
[It's a pattern that makes clear sense. Why can't all of them make that sort of sense?]
You ought to continue pursuing it, then.
[Lust sees no reason not to, if it was something he had an interest in. It's another benefit of this life - the chance to do those things they couldn't before.]
I'm sure it would be an easy enough thing to find an instrument.
[AWKWARD THROAT CLEARING.]
I have been, actually. Sort of.
Not as much after we joined the circus.
[He'd been busy. And that was after just about everyone who HAD known he played had vanished, too.]
But there's a music store in Goldenrod I stop by sometimes, the guy who owns it lets me use the one there.
[Lust blinks, then laughs a little.]
Who knew you had a secret life? You could do it at home, you know. I'd like to hear you play sometime, if nothing else.
[THAT'S CALLED A SECRET.]
I guess I could play for you sometime, but I don't see why we'd need to go to the trouble of getting a piano in the house just for that.
[Then EVERYONE would know! It's already weird!]

[huff!!]
It's normal not to want to buy a piano instantly.
You have both.
