2nd Sketch [Action - Ecruteak]

Summary: Mei has encountered a ghost from the not-so-distant past.



[Mei had more or less adjusted to the creatures known as Pokémon, as well as most of her new surroundings. Background music included. Even the festival had been like a flashback to normalcy, little ghosts excluded. The excitement over the festival had even made her feel nostalgic, and she only wished her sister could've been here to experience it with her.

...what she never expected was to find herself face to face with a phantom that looked just like her. That smile was undoubtedly hers, but she was completely silent. How, though? Mei knew very well she'd died.]

Misaki...

[Mei can be found nervously wandering about town, trying to evade the ghostly image of her sister, unsure what to make of it. It's...nice to be able to see even just a phantom of her, but it feels...wrong.]

[How do you get a ghost to leave you alone? Maybe surround yourself with other ghosts? ...Yeah, definitely not a great plan, but it's the one Ashley's trying. Mei's not the only one trying to evade a stalking specter today, and seems to do so Ashley's using a Phantump on her shoulder as a lookout. It seems she's sort of gotten away from her own personal demon, but in effect is kind of lost. Ecruteak looks different without all the decorations and stalls, okay?

Point is, while she can't quite find her way back to the hotel, she does come across poor Mei.] E-excuse me- uh- oh. You're...the girl Eliot talked to. Ah. Are, uh, you...?

[Is her phantom close by?]

[If only that would work. Sadly, one of Mei's lovely little critters is terrified of the other ghost, two want to befriend it, and the last wants to set it on fire. She's being trailed by her Shuppet and Duskull, although they're less being helpful and more just seeing what their trainer is up to.

Hearing a voice, Mei turns her head to spot the other girl. She remembers her, if only somewhat. She had that...odd cat thing that was talking to her, if she recalled correctly. While she doesn't look frightened, she definitely seems nervous about something. The phantom image of her sister isn't in view at the moment. Which is more or less to Mei's relief.]

...I think so. Am I what?

[How nice, a talk without a eavesdropping ghosts is very preferable to the alternative. After glancing about to make sure her ghost isn't around, Ashley clarifies:]

The, um. The...ghosts. Is one haunting you too?

[There's an awkward moment of silence as Mei mulls it over, but she finally relents and nods.]

...yes. [But Ashley had said 'too'...]

I take it I'm not alone in that.

[Ashley grimaces.]

A bunch of my friends, yeah, and... I've also got something trailing me.

[She looks over her shoulder; hasn't caught up with her, yet.]

I'm...not sure what to do about...her, myself.

[She can't bring herself to call the ghost 'it'. It's still the spitting image of her sister. And speak of the devil, just a moment later, said phantom steps around the corner.]

[Ashley spies Mei's ghost and just. She goes a little cold. It's not even hers but.]

She...looks like you.

[Twins? Oh, great.]

She does.

[Mei doesn't turn around to acknowledge the ghost. She knows well enough what she looks like.]

...she was my sister.

[Normally, Ochako wouldn't think too much of a couple girls wandering around town, but it catches her eye how much they look alike. Once she's paying attention though, she can see how much one of them seems to be bothered, almost trying to quietly run away from the other one. Maybe it's not just a cute friendly outing... she walks over, approaching the troubled girl, keeping an eye on the other one]

Hey, are you all right?

[It wasn't an uncommon sight for a while back home, and they even wore matching outfits and eyepatches for a while. This definitely doesn't appear to be so cute and lighthearted, though.

Mei stops when she's approached, trying not to glance over her shoulder.]

...I'm not sure. [At least she's being honest.]

[That strange answer makes this situation even stranger]

I, uh, I'm guessing you two know each other, right?

[Though if they didn't, that would certainly explain how eerie this was]

[She's not sure what else to classify being stalked by a ghost resembling her dead sister as.]

...I did.

You... did?

[Wait, what? She looks over at the other figure and... notices how off they sort of seem.]

...is that a gh-gh-ghost?!

[colorofdeath]

[Mei reaches up to run her fingers over her eyepatch.]

I'm not entirely sure. I think so. [She assumes so. She did see her corpse, after all.]

Wow, uh, that's... [She glances back over at the ghost, stepping away and more towards Mei, whispering] Do you know what she wants? Has she said anything?

[She shakes her head.]

No. She just...keeps smiling. [Mei isn't sure how she can be smiling.]

Hmm... I mean, I guess that's better than being mad at your or something?

[She'll take smiling ghosts over angry ones any day]

Is it?

[Misaki would have every right to be mad at her if she knew. But would she have even believed her if Mei had told her she was going to die?]

She should be.

[usedgravity]

O, oh... did something happen between you two before?

[colorofdeath]

[Mei glances away, clearly uncomfortable with that question.]

Not...really.

[usedgravity]

[Ochako will just... pretend she believes that then, since it obviously bothers her.]

Hmm, well... if she's not saying anything, maybe she's here to listen?

[colorofdeath]

Listen to what?

[Even if it really was Misaki, she isn't sure what she'd say.]

Well, I mean... anything you might have wished you'd had a chance to say to her?

[colorofdeath]

[Mei opens her mouth as if to say something, but remains silent. There's so much she wanted to be able to do, so much she'd wanted to be able to say. It wasn't fair that she had to die like that.]

[Looks like she was right but... maybe it had been better if she hadn't said anything about it? At the very least, it obviously was pretty personal]

I, uh... guess I should leave you to that, huh? Sorry to just butt in like this...

[There's a pause, but she nods. Mei's not angry by any means. Not at Ochako, anyway.]

It's fine. I'll...figure it out. [There's an unspoken 'thanks' there.]

Well... I hope it works out for you?

You can call me any time if you need anything else, okay? My name's Ochako Uraraka.

[Mei just nods again. She doesn't know how it'll work out, but she probably should deal with it at some point.]

I'm Mei Misaki.

It's nice to meet you, Mei! Hopefully we can hang out some other time.

[She'll wave and... leave her to her ghost? It seems like she'll be fine anyway.]
