"Yeah, just like that! Plus, when you're reading a word with more than one kanji in it, you can usually make out the meaning from combining all their meanings separately. Like, the word 'bicycle' is made up of the kanji for 'self,' 'turn' and 'vehicle'. Because it's a vehicle you power yourself!"

"Mountain is one of the first kanji we learn when we're little," He said as he drew 山 on her palm. "See? Just three strokes. And it's useful, because Japan has a lot of mountains in it."
