Hey breeder friends, need a favor.

Need a level 5-ish Pokemon, cute, small, easy to handle for a beginner for a newcomer. I want to get a present for a friend, but one that evolves into a Ride Pokemon size for a girl about fifteen. I met a kid during the Weekend and I'd like to get her set up for a trip. One that's big enough for a ride pokemon and is already trained for it is also a plus if that is still an option in "cute".

Something Kanto-ish preferably along those lines. I see her enjoying my Rapidash but they're a lot of care. So Breeder-friends, suggestions?

I'll wire the money as soon as we hash out the ideas and make the trade. All good on my end, I'm set for purchasing. We'll be nearing Pallet in the morning, so I want to pick this up at Professor Oak's if you're not too busy.

What sort of definition of 'cute' are we going by here? Because I know what I think is cute and it's not always what people think is cute...

I'm going to go with anything that the two of us collectively don't find cute and more stray along the word awesome. So anything that is more adorable but ride-able.

Like maybe a full grown Arcanine later on perhaps? Raise it from a Growlithe? I hear those are pretty rare to encounter early on. She has a Buneary.

Oh, Arcanine are great! My starter was originally a Growlithe, I ride Iqniq everywhere on land.

I am not a breeder but if there's anybody who also has an Arcanine that could probably be arranged. Or...uh...whatever else breeds with firedogs, I don't get the breeding at all.

Yeah me neither. My kids aren't interested in it either.

But I have Rapidash after all, so we're all over the place. I'm giving Sasami a ride but we're on the Ferry right now. We'll be making landfall tomorrow morning so we'll be arriving soon. I wanted to touch base with everyone before then.

My girlfriend's a breeder, so I feel like I should have picked some stuff up by now, but I have not.

I'll keep my eyes open for any wild Pokemon that match what you're looking for, too, I'm all over the coasts in the summer.

I feel like if my kids were interested in making eggs, we would have been swimming in it. Thankfully we are not.

Hey, no problem! I got really lucky that my starter evolved into something I could get around on.

I'm pretty sure mine aren't really the types to do so either.

Yeah. I was set on an all electric team but then common sense won out and I somehow got a Ponyta and I won't trade him for anything.

The whole thing is so weird.

Right? I had a pretty clear idea in mind when I started but now... there's no theme to my team at all. Other than a lot of elementals, I guess.

Yeah. I wonder if Pokemon are just the type to breed, and some aren't?

Yeah, like, you'd think looking at mine, I have a pretty cohesive 4 out of 6 that are decently electric types. But then I loaded them down with non-electric abilities to counteract their weaknesses.

So it's like having a non-electric team already.

Well that and...it's weird what two Pokemon can make eggs together.

I definitely have a lot of fire and water types, but I just hang out in places where there's lots of water and fire types. And I don't really do much with abilities and stuff, I just let them learn what they want to. But I don't do the Gyms or anything.

Yeah it's almost random sometimes when you think about it, but then there's the precise accuracy when you look at certain pairings.

Makes sense. I challenge Gyms but only at the Elite level. What can I say? I hate steamrolling Gyms.

It's so weird! It doesn't make any sense! I never really understood genetics anyway, but....

I've thought about it, but... I dunno. I feel like...I kind of want to be recognized for something other than being really good at kicking ass. I really like working as a lifeguard. And...just doing that.

I'm sure it's got some kind of breeding guide somewhere for it to make sense.

Yeah, I getcha. I like working with what I'm doing too, and even if it's the same work I'm comfortable with, making stories? I really like doing it on my own terms instead of being chained to a publishers schedule.

I mean I'd hope breeders get those! Otherwise they've got to have a hell of a time...

Yeah that's true. I can only imagine the breeders who started out here first off. They must have had a troublesome time finding all the mixing and matching.

It is. I had a lot of say originally but the more popular you get, the more the public sways the work, you know?

Yeah, definitely. And then some people get more popular in a work and they demand more of that character and oooboy, I have to come up with more direction for them.

Yeah it is. Most of my badges are from that level.

I've always been a little partial to my Arcanine. I've, uh... I've bred and raised quite a few of them myself.

I'm thinking Arcanine is a good choice for Sasami yeah. I'd have to introduce her to Growlithe when she's small too. Can you maybe get her a female perhaps?

We can try. Marcel's got a pretty good nose for telling what's what, so I can see what happens tonight. I'm a few days out from Pallet, but I can have my Dragonite deliver it to you guys. Just, uh...

Make sure you guys teach her to be gentle. Sometimes mine forgets how strong he really is and he knocks me over.

I'll be traveling with Sasami for a while, show her how to train and capture for a while and make sure she's all settled before she decides she's ready to head out on her own.

If it comes down to it, I can probably fly in on him then. I'll just have to, um...

I'll have to let my boyfriend know so he doesn't worry. I could bring my own Arcanine with too, if they'd like to see--? A-Actually, do you have a preference on what sort of abilities they'd want? Or would it be best to start out with only the basics since they're, uh... they're brand new to this place, right?

I wouldn't want them to be overpowered, but anything special that they can be bred in with would be great, because it would be useful for travel later. But don't go crazy and don't worry about finding a perfect stat according your breeding stat thingy.

I mean, for the most part, I want Sasami to determine her bond with the Pokemon, and raise it with love and care, and not rely on someone breeding like, uh, Flare Blitz into it or something.

... I mean, I've got Doduo eggs, raised from my own ride Pokemon-

But if they're like they're parents, the "easy to handle" bit might not come into play.

Hmm, yeah, and if I know Doduo, they're a tough Pokemon to handle for beginners. They've got two brains and they never act in tandem unless they're working together for a goal, right?

So that might be a little difficult for someone who is just starting out.

I think that can depend on the bird. Mine are usually fine at agreeing on a common goal- namely, how much they hate me. [He shrugs.] No idea if that's the norm, though.

I could try to hatch one of the eggs I have, see if it's got a good enough disposition that sending it to your friend wouldn't be a horrible idea. Get it used to a bridle, too. But it'd take me a couple days, and I also can't guarantee I'd even get one with a good temperament.

[The conman part of him is dying as he willingly admits all this, but he's not a complete dick. He's not gonna stick some kid with a bird that'll try to kill her.]

Plus, if I'm the one that hatches it, it might not listen to her when it hatches- she won't be the original owner.

Yeah, that's also an issue, I want to make sure that it's good enough to handle for Sasami... I mean, it's an idea? I want her to experience handling tough to deal with Pokemon so that she knows how to handle tough to deal with Pokemon if she ever has a tough Pokemon.

[Hmm, what to do...]

I have it. Why not we do this? Let her get a couple of levels under her belt. Maybe a gym badge. And then once she gets a little more experience, we'll set up a trade date in maybe a month? That should be enough buffer, so that we can trade face to face so that the Doduo can get used to the idea and Sasami can get used to handling Pokemon.

Hey, works for me. Worst case scenario, I just get stuck with an extra bird if we think it's too difficult to hand over to her.

Egg should be hatched in about... Three or four days, I think- little faster because I've got Pokemon with Flame Body. Once it's hatched, I'll work with it, see what its temperament is like, try to get it used to riding and people in general. Maybe give it the Fly HM, so once she gets the badge for using that she'll be able to use the move right away.

[It's not exactly how Venkman expected to spend his summer, but he's already worked with a lot of troublesome Pokemon in his six months here- he's up for the challenge.

When we do the trade, Saffron or Vermilion would probably be best. I'm in Cianwood right now, might be going to the Seviis soon, so either the Magnet Train or ferry are my best bets to get to Kanto.

She's starting from point zero in Pallet, so it might take a while for us to get to Saffron, but I can port ahead and get some transportation set up if we want to make us moving to Saffron quicker. But you know these kids; wide eyed wonder and stuff. It's really quite cute.

I'll teleport back to Cianwood since I have the portal and check in on the progress in the meantime in between downtime trips and visit, and show pictures of Sasami and her team as they progress. Maybe some videos too.

Believe me, I get it. I had to make the same trip from Pallet to Saffron when I first showed up here. Took me a little over a month to get to Saffron, but I was rushing it, didn't really take any detours. And I took the Diglet Cave route instead of going to Pewter and Cerulean, which sped up the process but sucked to travel through.

Hey, fine by me. Message me whenever you feel like checking up on it, either in person or over the Pokegear.

That would do it. I was lucky enough to arrive here close to a Wall so I got my powers back and then used them to zoom all over the regions, unlocking the teleporters. Never looked back, and then I traveled the region normally for a long time, just getting lost. It was a blast.

My Furret just had some babies! Sentret aren't big, but Furret are. Definitely big enough for a girl to ride. And they evolve fast.

The can't fly of course, buy then can use Strength and Surf.

Oooooh Sentrets are good! We're coming up on a Friday too, so the chances of a swarm happening is good too. We might run into something so we'll see what happens.

Something with Strength and Surf would be amazing.

I can definitely have one ready for you. It should be a good fit for a new trainer. They're easy to take care of and have friendly temperaments. Where are you gonna be?
