H-hey! Uh, I know this is sudden, but I kind of need some help.

[For some reason, Kazuki is looking kind of... wary? He's in his own backyard, but he's glancing around as if he's expecting to be attacked at every angle.]

Is there anyone out there that's good with... Oh, I don't know. I guess, computers? I'm hopeless with them, and I think that that's the sort of expertise I need right now. You see...

[Suddenly, there's a crackling noise in the background.]

Oh, no...

[The crackling noise soon grows into a crescendo of familiar cacophony. Imagine that, but being played over an amplifier turned up to 11. Kazuki winces very visibly, since he can't hold his hands over his ears when he's also trying to hold his Gear. Behind him, there's another, more organic sounding screech, and a Noivern suddenly swoops into view, only to immediately crash into a nearby tree. A Furret is writhing on the ground like one of those cat toys with the noodle-y, furry thing attached to a rolling ball. An Altaria flat-out flees the scene.]

See? [Kazuki has to yell over the horrible distortion, as he turns the camera around to point at the problem. Of all things, it's a strange looking Porygon! Its body is floating and jerking around erratically, sizzling with static. Something is definitely up with it. It looks like it can't control itself.]

I've tried everything I know about Pokemon to try and help it, but it's not working! I read in the 'Dex that Porygon are more like computer programs than Pokemon, but that doesn't help me at all-- I think there might be something wrong with it because it's shiny or something!

[The Porygon starts making a different sound that's no less irritating than the last.]

It's driving my other Pokemon nuts!

[And you too, Kazuki.]

Yeah, you sure got a problem there!

I dunno, my Porygon's never done anything like this. But! It's done other weird shit and I happen to be a computer genius. Thing about these little dudes is that their 'biology' is basically computer code.

I'm gonna guess yours has some borked coding in there somewhere.

Do you think it can be fixed somehow? I'm not lying, I don't know anything about computers-- Chip here was kind of a surprise when he hatched!

[The dial-tone continues to blare in the background.]

I can take a look at it but I can't make any promises.

Hey, ya know what we can do? Maybe Leet Duck can do something, that's my Porygon.

Any help would be appreciated! But I'm in Lavender Town... Well, it will stay in a Pokeball, so I wouldn't be disturbing the peace if I had to travel.

Lavender? That's...yeah, that's not really handy. What the hell are you doing there? There's like nothing there.

There's a recording studio here I work at! And you're right, it is pretty backwoods, but because of that, I was able to afford a nice little place out in the wild where my Pokemon can all live outside the PC. I really like it here.

And there's no recording studios anywhere else? Ugh, I tell ya, I couldn't do it. Even the 'big' cities here barely cut it for me. There's so friggin much nature everywhere....

Well, I'm sure there are in some of the other cities, but I think Lavender Town is for me. I volunteer at the Pokemon orphanage sometimes too.

I guess if you don't like nature, the Pokemon world would be kinda hard all over...

I used to live on a giant space station before I lived here, so....yeah. Not a huge nature guy.

Oh, wow, another person from space! It's kind of amazing how many of you there are. Back home, the Americans have been on the moon once, and we have a space station, but it's really small. Like, only a couple of people can live in there at a time.

My space station had millions of people! And I do mean 'mine', I designed it and oversaw the building of it and it was where I had my presidential office and personal penthouse.

Woahhhhhh... I mean, I'm sorry! If you're a president-- should I be being more polite? I don't know the protocol...

It sure wouldn't be a bad idea. Yeah, I was president of a galactic empire back home.

Here I'm just a rich guy with a bunch of cool Pokemon.

Uhh, then how about "Mr. President"?

Alright, here's what I'm gonna do for you. You give me one good reason I ought to visit Lavender, and I'll book myself a ride out there and take a look at your code duck for ya while I'm there.

[Kazuki's Japanese. Naming someone with the correct amount of respect is kind of a big deal there.]

Uh, all that's here is really... The Kanto Radio Tower, the House of Memories, and Mr. Fuji's Orphanage. Nothing that tech-y.

What's the House of Memories? I don't get out that way like...ever.

It's where they moved all the graves when the Pokemon Tower became the Radio Tower. It's where you go to pay respects to dead Pokemon.

Oh. That's way less cool than I was thinking.

Come on, ya gotta give me something here. A...a foodie scene, cool local music scene, something!

Oh! Um, the fresh fish they sell at the markets on Silence Bridge are really good? Like there are people there that'll slice up sashimi for you on the spot, or make ceviche, and on Fridays they boil crawdads!

And Lavender Town is where the music scene is at in Kanto! That's why I'm here!

Okay, that's something I can work with. I'm a big fan of pop music, myself.

Raw fish kinda creeps me out, though.

We've got that! Tends to be a bit on the indie side tho'. Some more experimental sounds.

They'll cook it too! It's just-- y'know, so fresh you don't need to.

That really doesn't surprise me at all. Still. Could be worth checking out. What about local Pokemon?

Yeah, yeah, I know. Just can't get over the raw thing.

Ghost types! They tend to come out most at night. There are some you can only see here in all of Kanto!

Ghost types, huh? Man, I just...Ghost types. Kinda weird, right? I don't really have many...I might not have any, actually. Nah, I have at least one that got left to me.

But still. Point is...weird. You ever really read about some of'em? Spooky shit!

Yeah, some of them are like that. Because of the House of Memories, some angry ones lurk around from time to time. Usually, Mr. Fuji takes care of them. He's good at settling restless spirits.

I actually don't have any myself, aside from a Sensu Oricorio, but he's more Flying type than anything else. Especially since he could change that Ghost type if he wanted to.

Usually? Sounds like sometimes he doesn't and then there's pissed off ghost shenanigans.

Well, there's a pretty famous story around here about that. Back in the day, when the Pokemon Tower was still a gravesite, there was a time when the Rockets had kidnapped Mr. Fuji, and this angry ghost basically took the place over. Things weren't going so well... But out of nowhere, some prodigy trainer came and calmed the spirit down, and kicked Team Rocket out. All on his own!

Of course they did. What the hell else did they think was going to happen? What, were they trying to harness the power of ghosts?

Friggin idiots.

[Kazuki laughs out loud.]

Actually, I think that was what they were doing! Like they wanted to get a bunch of strong Ghost Type Pokemon to use, or something like that.

Your Porygon is acting like a particularly quirky, noisy Type:Null. Great.

['Great' is very much not the word he's thinking, though.]

I have no idea how to help it, but make sure not to evolve it for now. I get the feeling it'd make the problem worse, all things considered.

...What's a Type:Null? I don't think I've ever seen one--

[Chip makes a louder, even more horrible screech, and Kazuki winces harder, he jaw set like a steel trap.]

Okay, okay! Enough fresh air, time to return!

[He holds up a Pokeball, and a red beam of light sucks the Porygon back in.]

I really don't like doing that, but I'm a musician! I can't afford to go deaf!

Yeah, just because Beethoven could pull it off doesn't mean it'd be a good idea. Spending a few hours in its ball won't harm it.

[It will, however, spare everyone's ears, which is nice.]

Type:Null are man-made Pokémon that are usually quirky, if not downright glitchy. Maybe your Porygon comes from the same lab?

Heh! [Kazuki appreciated the reference, as any band geek would.] Yeah, I'm nowhere near that level of virtuoso. I need my hearing.

Oh, maybe! Actually, I got it as an egg from those Legendary Seeker guys after the Prom. Everything seemed legit then...

People got rare, shiny species from them? I got a foreign Rattata.

[He's actually very pleased by his foreign Rattata.]

The Legendary Seekers are a bit... odd, but I don't think they'd deliberately give ill of malfuntioning Pokémon to someone who answered their questions.

Yeah, I think a bunch of people got eggs like this. Out of everything they had, I thought a Porygon sounded interesting.

Maybe this is all on me for taking on a Pokemon I didn't really know a whole lot about...
