[The video feed opens on what appears to be a confused looking Houndour that's obscured by a thumb covering half the camera. Honestly, it's pretty clear that whoever's doing the filming doesn't do a whole lot of selfies and all that jazz.]
This thing even on? ]
[Have two loud thumping noises as Keith taps the mic with his fingers.]
Okay. Don't know what's going on here. But I'm trying to get back inside to get this lady to answer some damn questions--
[The camera's moving away from the Houndour and now focusing on what looks like "mom's" house in New Bark Town.]
And this ,,,Houndour [??? readily audible as his voice goes up at the end.] -- doesn't seem to get how to use tackle. C'mon buddy it's like this.
[BLURRY MOVEMENTS followed by a hard thump against the door. There's a loud sigh as the feed settles again. This time Keith turns the camera to show his exasperated looking face.]
All the dogs here like this?

[The pokemon, mostly. Those he's held onto since the last time he'd seen his friend. Those he'd hold onto as long as it took. For him, there's not much that's changed. This is still Keith. Still the person he'd taken under wing.]
[Nothing's different, there.]
Hah -- something like that, yeah. Very low risk of death, here. [The Aggron rumbles something low in greeting, angling its head to nip at Shiro's arm.] He's called an Aggron. Kuro's his nickname.
no subject
[He trails off as comprehension sets in. Right. If he was here before, this whole waking up with a four legged friend thing also happened before.]
Yeah, I guess.. I should say hi? [To some creatures he does not recall at all. This is never going to not be awkward, is it. Keith furrows his brow, troubled.]
Okay, I'm kinda nervous about the answer, but uh... how much am I not remembering? Time wise. Otherwise.
no subject
[A nod. He shifts where he sits, starting to rise. The camera pans through a house as he moves, flashes of beach visible through windows.]
I can come pick you up, if you want. It's just a short flight from where we live.
[This gives him a moment to think that over:] That... depends on who you ask. For me, it's just a couple months or so. For the others, it might be more.
no subject
... Yeah, okay.
[Is his eventual answer to both questions.]
But I meant how long was I here for? Months? Years? [He looks away from the camera, deciding to kneel down and pat the Houndour's ears. Catching up on his life back home and the life he never knew he had here is a lot at once... but it's not something he wants Shiro to sugarcoat for. There's a half attempt at a joke.]
Guessing you'd have told me if the cops here were after me for some reason.
no subject
It's going to be okay. Promise.
[He will make it okay.]
[But then the easier answers. As he steps out the door, out onto the sand. Wingulls crying in the distance -- Spheals barking.] About a year. You were here for about a year. And, had a habit of betting people you could do things they thought you couldn't, for money.
You bet someone you could lift one of your pokemon. They didn't believe you.
[And needless to say, Keith got the money.]
No -- the police here had more trouble on their hands with Lance and Pidge than you.
no subject
Hey. Even if it isn't, I usually come out of the wash alright.
[Really. He's been through a whole lot worse all things considered. This is just.. different. Unexpected. But it's not like he has to do it alone.]
So is money hard to come by or is this place just that boring?
[Hard to tell, though he doesn't think it's the former. From the looks of it, Shiro's got a really nice place for himself out on this beach. And hey, Keith's glad for him that he has it. Shiro deserves a vacation or three. For two years.]
Putting bets on boring if Lance and Pidge are messing around like that.
no subject
[But it's meant kindly, all things considered. Let's face it, Keith you do a lot of things to be worried over. So does Shiro, but that's beside the point.]
No, it's not hard. But it usually involves getting your pokemon -- [He nods to Kuro's big Aggron head. Those guys.] -- to fight. Everyone from preschool onward does it. Winner keeps bets, that kind of thing. And, for the most part, these guys enjoy it.
[Kuro bobs his head in agreement -- yeah, he's totally into it.]
You know Lance and Pidge... can't keep those two cooped up no matter how hard Hunk tries to keep up with them. I think Matt's going to get Pidge involved in his observatory, at least...
[So no one gets arrested again.]
no subject
[Cuz let's face it, there are plenty o super concerning things he could be saying right now. But at the mention of fighting, he'll pause in the middle of patting the devil doggo. He laughs.]
Okay, so I'm pretty sure my buddy here is a walking flamethrower. Is this the one and only time you're telling me I'm supposed to be torching things?
[Is this all a weird dream, Shiro. He'll comment on the others later, but this seems like something worth clarifying right off the bat.]
no subject
[There really are many concerning things out there. But... here on the island? Here with his team and Matt? Can't really argue. He turns briefly to toss out a ball -- releasing his Skarmory.]
[The bird promptly pecks his metal arm. This does not seem to faze him.]
That doesn't surprise me. [Not even for a second.] But yes. I am. Only in Pokemon battles.
I don't have enough in the "Swear And Pun" jar to pay another bail.
no subject
Nice wings. If I didn't know any better, I'd--
[PAUSE.]
Wait. Lance and Pidge went to jail?
no subject
[And the crankiest, if the look she's throwing the camera is any indication.]
Lance, Pidge, and Hunk got chased by the local police. [He sounds so resigned about that.] They didn't say they went to jail, but... I have a bad feeling about it.
no subject
Gotta one of those for sure.
[Fast flier? Sign him up yesterday.]
Sounds like you need to keep those three on a leash.
no subject
I... may have an extra one. If you want.
[Coincidence??]
Oh, I'd love to, believe me. But then Hunk would make that face and Matt would kill me for leashing his sister.
no subject
Of course I want that. If you're willing to part with it.
[Is that even a question? Grumpiness of Skarmory aside, it's just a damn cool looking birb. Whether or not this is a coincidence is quite honestly going right over his head. He figures there's probably a good reason Shiro caught two of them. Probably.]
... and he wouldn't kill you if Pidge got into trouble that you could've prevented by putting the leash on her in the first place?
no subject
[It's Keith's. Definitely. In ways that Shiro is choosing not to articulate right now.]
[He'll save that for later. Probably.]
... He's a Holt. Chances are, if she's in trouble, he's at least slightly supportive of whatever it is.
no subject
[Shiro's discretion there is perhaps for the best, though much of Keith's concerns have already been assuaged by talking to Shiro. Maybe he doesn't need to worry about what he is or isn't remembering or how long people have been here, forging new and stronger bonds and what his real place is here if he can still talk to them normally?]
Dunno, Pidge gets fiery about Matt being in trouble. Not the same in reverse then?
no subject
[And considering -- oh. Oh wait.]
-- You might not even recognize him when you see him. I almost didn't. He's grown a lot.
no subject
[Well since the Kerberos mission. Somehow that feels like it'd been decades ago at this point, even though he remembers all the drama surrounding that expedition like it's been scratched into his neurons. Rather than dwell on that though, he shifts the subject slightly.]
... did Pidge find Matt and her dad back at home, too? Or is this a weird... space-time anomaly that the Holts are together here?
no subject
[He'd been a little emotional at the time, considering how the guy had looked last time they'd seen each other.]
Pidge says they did. She says Sam's doing just fine.
[He grins as he says that, unable to keep it down. Another huge relief.]
no subject
[... well really that's something that could be said for everyone on team Voltron, huh.]
Glad everyone turned out alright.
[Sweet summer child....]
no subject
[He trusts Pidge, but there's something to be said for actually seeing the man for himself.]
Well. Mostly.
I lost a sense of fashion.
no subject
[But the next comment has Keith raising an eyebrow before letting out a huff of amusement.]
Seems like a small price to pay for everyone's general well being.
[Probably. Not like space mullet here ever gave a rat's ass about fashion. Unless it's y'know. Eye searing.]
no subject
[And he laughs. Actually laughs. It's a real one, not a forced sound.]
Oh, sure. You and I can say that. Lance would disagree, I think.
[He was mostly joking, because as far as he knows, things turn out okay, in the end.]
no subject
[Not that he's trying to be nosy, but it's something that clearly makes Shiro happy and whatever it is, Keith is glad for it.]
And well... Lance has bad priorities.
no subject
[Whether or not Sam blames him for uh. Abandoning them. Not that it was purposeful, but still.]
Hey, he can have those here. He's allowed.
