[action - Ecruteak]
Who: Envy (and a ghost) and YOU
Where: Ecruteak
When: August 16th through 19th
Summary: Envy, like many others, has a less than fun time being followed by a well-intentioned ghost.
Rating: PG-13? Possible CW for discussion of abuse.
Log:
[Why did whatever this was have to look like her? Envy's already talked with Lust about what might be going on, and he's seen the other distressed people popping up on the network. He knows this is just one of those things that happens, and obviously his former master isn't really here.]
[That doesn't stop the cold twist of his stomach every time he catches sight of her out of the corner of his eye. At least the whatever-it-is isn't talking.]
[Now if only he could find a way to get rid of it.]
[He doesn't want to take this to the network, he doesn't want to talk about her to potentially a bunch of random strangers. But he's also not going to be holing up in his hotel room...he hates the thought of just being in a room with even the image of her staring at him. So out and about it is, speedwalking down the sidewalk wherever he goes, hands shoved in his pockets and his head down to avoid looking at her. Maybe if he walks fast enough, he'll lose her. Unfortunately for anyone around him, this makes it really easy for him to smack straight into someone.]
[By day two, someone might catch him emptying a garbage can out in an alley, grim determination on his face. Lust had put a garbage can on her and nothing bad had happened, even if she'd phased on out before very long. And it had been kind of funny. He can do it too.]
[One way or another, eventually he will have gotten rid of the pesky follower. And is still wandering around town looking for ANY kind of distraction, no matter how small. He's got a lot to avoid thinking about.]

One scene transition later...][Al moves across the room and settles in a seat near the window, keeping as much distance between himself and Envy as he can. Sloth, unfortunately, moves to be standing near him, though she turns to face both trainers.]
That...sounds a lot like how Mom was, honestly. She'd take charge real quick if she didn't think anyone else knew how to handle things. Got her and Granny butting heads sometimes if they were both around.

Don't compare them too much. She...it was important to her, that she be her own self, separate from before. [He hesitates before continuing, gritting his teeth at the admission:] Even...if how she tried to make that happen wasn't that great.
That was one of the reasons we got along so well, and why she and Lust hated each other. Lust doesn't get it, she wants those memories and doesn't know why anyone wouldn't.
[He snorts.]
I wouldn't ask Lust about her, you wouldn't get very nice answers. They were always sniping at each other.
no subject
No...I remember that. She...she made that really clear.
[Even if Al could still see shadows of his mother in her, echoes that he'd wanted so badly to reach out to...but it was too late by that point.]
[He glances up at the comment about Lust, a little surprised despite himself.]
Really? They'd been sent together with Wrath after us though, hadn't they? I mean, I know you all weren't exactly treated...normally, but sending two people that hate each other after important targets like us isn't really the smartest move.

Oh, let me tell you about what the hell happened there. Lust had already pulled something disobedient by helping you two back in Liore. That mission? That was supposed to be some kind of redemption for her.
Normally, she would have sent me with Lust. But by then, our master knew damn well that I might wind up compromised if Lust was involved. She sent Sloth and Wrath to watch her and make sure she didn't pull anything else, and as a punishment. Those two would kill Lust if they had to, and I think she knew that I might not. Plus, it'd impress on the two newest what happens when someone screws up too badly.
They really hated each other. But that's all getting a little off topic.

[Then again, knowing Dante it probably was. Gluttony must have gotten indigestion from eating that rotten bitch.]
Yeah, a bit. What sort of things did you two talk about?

[A lot of it had had to do with "fuck alchemists and creators, seriously, wouldn't it be great to just MURDER them?". Envy has to think over what he wants to say next. It's...really kind of awkward, sharing this with Al. It's giving away things about him, too, and that itches at him like a flea. But Sloth has never had her story told, much less asked about; he can do that much for her.]
[And it's important that Al is asking about her.]
She was all business, all the time. I don't think I ever caught her actually smiling...not that any of us really did, usually. But the rest of us would at least laugh or smirk or something. She just looked serious all the time.
I'd joke around or tease her, try to see if I could get her to laugh. She didn't, but when she wanted to she had a sense of humor. It was just as dry as the Eastern desert, most people couldn't tell she was making a joke. But once I caught on, I knew what to look for.
[A little bit of smugness comes into his voice at that.]

[Alphonse casts the ghost a glance, then grimaces and turns away again. Even though he's nearly certain is isn't actually Sloth's spirit...it still feels rude, to talk about her with her right there.]
She always did seem really reserved, when we saw her. I wondered if she didn't just act that way around us as...I don't know, some sort of defense. But that's just how she always was, then?
no subject
But no, she was always serious like that, almost all the time.
[He glances at the ghost too, and what he says next comes out quieter.]
She...our master gave her a harder time than anyone else. From the beginning.
no subject
Well that's hardly a surprise. Of course that vindictive bitch would have taken her grief out on her.
[Dante might have denied that homunculii had any personhood from the get-go, but it certainly wouldn't stop her from being a petty piece of shit to those that resembled anyone she hated in life.]

[Envy's mouth sets too, and his words start coming out more measured, careful. As though they're difficult to say, even now.]
She never believed a thing she told us. And she was more spiteful than all of us put together.
[Which considering the immense levels of spitefulness in all the homunculi? Is saying something.]
Anyway, if Sloth sounded happy, it was part of her secretary act. Well...I guess sometimes she was a little nicer to Wrath. But that was something else.
[He shrugs, jaw tightening. This is a grievance that's only festered and come up consciously since he's been here.]
He shouldn't have been assigned to her. Weird mother son issues or not, she was too young. It made things worse.

What do you mean?
