[Video] - On the Beach

[The 'gear comes on, and for once, it's not Matt at the observatory. He's sitting on the beach in an Alolan shirt and very loud Lunatone swim trunks, idly making a sand castle and talking to a Spheal and a Mimikyu in a Spheal costume.]

I'm beginning to think we need some more room, Kerberos, what do you think? Maybe put an extension on the house? The family's really growing, so we absolutely need more space for everyone, so no one has to be out on their own. It sucks not having a place to go home to... especially since we can't really get home anyway....

[He turns, and looks at the 'gear.]

Venus! Yuki! Shut that off!

[The 'gear goes off to the sound of a Glaceon and Vulpix snickering.]

I think we could manage that. We own it, after all.

Well, I mean, we are kinda running out of room here, especially with James arriving. Pidge likes her basement, but I think everyone wouldn't mind some more room, and we really really could use another bathroom or two.

[The house was not made for as many people as it has, and bathrooms are a little bit of a problem sometimes.]

Yeah... yeah. Getting a bathroom without Coran [Shiro's Omanyte] in it would be a plus.

That's a good point. Is he sticking with us, or? Do you know?

I don't know yet, but I did offer. I'll let you know.

[Matt can't help but laugh.]

Yeah, I'd really like a tub that I didn't have to throw a pokemon out of. Maybe we can even build him his own tub or aquarium or something.

Probably better you than me. He looked like someone punched him in the chest when he saw me.

I'm sorry about him -- I really am. But yeah, maybe that will help.

Oh, dear. All he told me was Mom was at the Garrison with Dad being frustrated and frustrating. But, well. That's standard procedure Mom. So, well. As I've said many times before, I'm not as interesting as all of the rest of you.

[Matt shrugs a bit.]

Hey. He's just livin' his life. I would just rather he didn't live it in my tub.

[He grimaces, and pushes his hand through his hair. Still "Lion-Colored" as Shiro puts it.]

I think it was the hair. Keep forgetting not everyone's seen me like this for a while.

[Yeah, you think?? You and your rainbow hair are a shock.]

That is... entirely fair. I still don't know why he does it.

Shiro. I think it's more than the hair. You're Takashi fucking Shirogane. You're basically Captain Garrison. I think you're a bit more intimidating and surprising than you realize.

[Matt shrugs.]

Maybe next week we should start seeing about finding a building? And sketching what we'd like to have?

I am? That's -- really not the kind of thing I'm going for.

[Being intimidating, he means.]

Yeah, probably. I've got the funds built back up again, I think.

I know you're not going for that, but... people thought a lot of you. Still do, I'm pretty sure. That's not really here or there, though.

[Matt makes a confused face over the Gear.]

Shiro? I have money, you know. I have a job that pays me probably more than I'm worth. So don't worry about that.

People also thought I was dead. So... maybe that's a bigger part of it all, too.

[His turn to look a little confused.]

Are you sure? I've been saving since I finished the Johto gyms.

Shiro... we're engaged, remember?

[Matt shrugs.]

I consider everything that's mine to be yours as well.

I know, I know. I -- am still getting adjusted to the idea, though.

Bear with me?

As long as you'll have me.

[Matt grins over the 'Gear, just looking at Shiro for a while.]

We should go out to dinner tonight. I've heard of a neat little restaraunt on the beach.

Oh yeah? A new one?

[He's in. He's totally in.]

Yeah. I've heard it's a cute little romantic one with good seafood.

[Matt can't help another grin.]

And, well.... we really should start planning the wedding if you're up for it.

Wow, I can't say no to romance. You've earned that for sure.

[His face turns pink.]

... we probably should, huh?

Yeah. I mean, if you want to put it off for a while, we can. But... I'd kinda like to start planning.

Hell if I know what to do.

... We're going to have one of the Pokemon as ring bearer, aren't we?

We might need to -- at least until everything stops going crazy. For a little while, at least.

[Planning... he can do that, though.]

If that's what you want, then absolutely.

We don't have to, but I could see Kerberos insisting. Or Europa.

[He shrugs.]

The smallest person I know is Pidge, and she's definitely not going to be either ring bearer or flower girl.

[Okay, well that makes him laugh.]

I would love to see how a Spheal carried a ring.

[It's a great mental image okay.]

Pidge definitely isn't "flower girl" material.

... I'm imagining a pillow on the top of a rolling Spheal. We'd have to tie the rings on or something.

[Now he's laughing. Maybe he needed this more than he realized.]

Oh, no. She's going to be Best Sister. I don't know if I could get married without her there.

[Her or either of his parents. There has to be someone from his family there.]

That's... adorable. That's really adorable.

[Thank goodness for Spheals. They make everything cuter.]

I would expect nothing less from her.

[He's just glad there's a chance for her to be.]

So that's one Ring Spheal, one Best Sister... who are you going to ask to be in the wedding party?

The guys, for sure. Jean, Armin, Sasha...

I guess it depends on if they want to be in it, or just there for support.

We can always ask what people want. I'm pretty open.

[Alright, Matthew. Keith doesn't have beef with him or anything, but Shiro's recently told him about their relationship and he's got some bro duties to fulfil. As you do.

In all seriousness though, Keith's out and about on the beach with Houndour and Vulpix in tow when he spots the guy and figures he'll come over and say hi while his two fire types play wrestle in the sand.]

Hey. Hanging out by yourself?

[Matt's Alolan Vulpix gets up and saunters over, sniffing the new two curiously, followed by a Glaceon.

Matt himself, sits up and waves a bit, running a hand through his hair, and really only succeeding in getting it slightly more sandy.]

Only as by myself as I can be with a bunch of pokemon hanging around. Pull up some sand if you'd like and join me if you'd like to build a castle.

[The Houndour and Vulpix stop tumbling around in the sand as Matt's friends come over to say hello. Houndour's hanging back because he's TOO COOL for this, but the Vulpix certainly seems very intrigued the Alolan counterpart and bounds over to greet the other pokemon.

While that's going on, Keith can't help raising an eyebrow at Matt's suggestion. Is this the kind of thing Shiro's into now? Weird. Not being in a war and having endless downtime is just... weird.]

Um.... sure? [Sounding a little perplexed, he takes a seat.] Haven't actually made one of these here yet. This what you get up to when you're not at the observatory?

[Venus sniffs at her fire counterpart and trills a cheerful greeting. Yuki the Glaceon curls her tail around herself and purrs. Clearly they like their new friends.]

What? I've always liked building things, and having time where I don't have to do anything is... oddly novel. Well, alright, when I'm not sitting on an asteroid listening to everyone's communication. Galra soap operas are really wierd, you know.

[He shrugs.]

I tend to spend all my time at the observatory if people don't fuss at me, and I can only do the dishes so much. So... being on the beach.

[Despite himself, Keith does smile at that.]

Galran soap operas? Can't imagine what those're like. Is every other line "victory or death" ..?

[He glances towards the pokegang just to make sure Houndour's not being difficult, then looks back towards Matt.]

[Matt can't help but laugh, shaking his head a bit.]

Well, I can tell you there's a lot of killing people for love. And just a lot of metaphorical dick comparisons.

I tend to shut them off before they got more explicit.

[You know... he shouldn't be surprised, but...]

Like... "my cruiser is happy to see you?"

[He huffs in amusement.]

Doesn't really sound like the kind of stuff an advanced alien race would write.

[Matt laughs, shaking his head.]

Something like that, yeah. Just 'my ship is this big, and can fit three of yours' sort of thing. It's pretty awful.

[Matt leans back, thoughtfully.]

I guess there's different definitions of advanced, but... their entertainments are pretty hilarious from a human perspective.

Remodeling can be a hassle, but it's well worth it once a household starts to fill.

Oh, yeah. I'd really like to have a tub that doesn't have a couple pokemon living in it.

There are just not enough bathrooms in this house for everyone in it now, and we're probably getting bigger. So, we need more room.

True bliss is having one's own private bathroom.

It's simply natural, as families evolve. Even here. And it allows you to add personal touches for your Pokemon - we have a fish pond and a greenhouse now, that we added ourselves.

Oooh, now there's an idea. I don't know if we'd have a greenhouse, unless Hunk would want to grow some things for food, but we could definitely use an aquarium and a fish pond.

[Matt grins thoughtfully over the 'gear]

The greenhouse is for the more plant-like and bug type Pokemon who prefer that steamier, jungle-like climate.

Which I suppose you don't have to worry about, with the island weather.

Oh, yeah. The weather's pretty good for those kind of pokemon.

[He shrugs, thoughful.]

Sometimes I wonder how the heck my Ice Types handle it. They haven't complained, though.

Particularly those we caught in those sorts of places.

I don't understand how my fire types literally made of fire don't seem to mind winters. There are some aspects of Pokemon biology I'll never understand.

My mom would absolutely love to study all of this. She's a biologist at home.

A lot of it goes over my head, to be honest. Especially breeding. I'm so glad I'm not a breeder.

I have a history in biological sciences, but even I get a headache trying to understand Pokemon.

I thank God every week I'm not a breeder. I've only had the Espurr have the one clutch, I couldn't manage any more. At least the kittens are darlings...

[Though considering how much time they've spent terrorizing the islands this summer, evidence refutes that statement glaringly.]

My Spheal's had eggs with Shiro's Spheal a couple times, but that's basically two Spheals in love or something.

I tried to look up what makes two Pokemon compatible, and I honestly prefer quantum physics and wormhole theory. It really makes no sense.

And there should always be more Spheal. If you have any more eggs in the future that need a home...do keep me in mind. I'm sure Guttle would like a Spheal companion of his own.

It defies everything I understand about genetics and breeding lines.

Absolutely! I'm sure Europa and Kerberos will make more. They're mostly just bouncy round happy balls.

Me too, to be honest. I don't know as much as Mom does, but... I'm not about to try to do any kind of genetic analysis on pokemon. I'd probably need some aspirin. And a drink. Maybe several drinks.

I believe, in my limited experience, that's a common nature among Spheal. Guttle's the same. But only know Guttle and your household's Spheals.

I can assure you that you'd need a private bar's worth.
