007 | Video, Mt. Moon
[The feed opens up on a Sableye, sitting in a cave happily munching rocks. The camera just stays like that for a good minute before Ray's voice comes up from behind the camera, hushed as if he doesn't want to spook the Sableye... even though it's his own Pokemon.]
Hey guys, it's been awhile since I made a video here so I wanted to give you guys an update. Long story short the boys and I are in Kanto and I decided to pick up an egg of my new daughter! I'm amazed; I never knew that there was a Pokemon that clearly resembles a miniture Kelly-Hopkinsville gremlin! It seems that the comparison is only skin deep however, unless the ones in my dimension secretly ate rocks.
Speaking of, that's why I'm recording Kelly here! Ever since she hatched she had a hard time distinguishing between what's food and what's not, and since we're in Mt. Moon right now I thought it would be a good place to have her surrounded by food so she can understand that that's food and my Pokegear and inventions are not food.
[At the mention of her name, Kelly looks over at Ray expectantly. She starts approaching the Pokegear as Ray continues.]
Anyway, I wanted to document her habits in a natural environment! I find it fascinating that these little guys feed on rocks- I know they're ghosts, but I can't help but wonder what made them want to eat rocks in the first place! Apparently rocks are so embedded into their biology that their eyes and rocks on their body are the result of their diet!
[As Ray babbles, Kelly is right up to the Pokegear, sniffing it curiously.
She opens her mouth to eat it.]
Wh-Hey Kelly top that! What did I just tell you?!
[The feed cuts off.]

[They're probably like 20 feet away from each other. There is absolutely no reason to message Ray instead of talking to him like a normal person.]
text
Aww Pete, π₯at least she's not eating our actual food! πβ π»β€π» And I think she's getting better!π
[Ray is still texting this while trying to make sure Kelly doesn't eat his Pokegear.]
no subject
i saw her eyeing my reuseable attract tm and if she even puts a single claw on that thing i swear to god
no subject
[A real catch 22 there, Venkie.]
Come on, Pete, I can discipline her! πI think all sheπ» needs is some good positive reinforcement!π
[She is now gnawing on Ray's backpack straps.]
no subject
ray you havent successfully disciplined a single pokemon in 9 months. do i need to remind you of what a menace starchild is.
no subject
Please Pete you don't think I'm that bad of a father, do you? ππ
no subject
"good" father or not you spoil them too much and barely discipline them and thats why so many of your pokemon are aggressive towards me
[Well, that's half of it.]
no subject
[The emojis might... make the message lose its impact, but Ray does actually look pretty hurt if Venkman looks.]
no subject
Goddamnit. With a heavy sigh, Venkman sets the Pokegear aside and speaks out loud, glancing at Ray.]
I know you don't wanna be strict with them, Ray, but that's not better for them in the long run.
[The slumbering Onix coiled at his side stirs, as does the Noibat perched on the Onix's head crest. Neither of them have any context for this conversation, and Lyssa in particularly is curious- and confused.]
no subject
[Ray pats Kelly's head while she continues to chew on his backpack.]
I really love my children, and the idea of hurting them just kills me, even if it's for the greater good.
... I'm not sure if I'm a good enough father for this.
no subject
You're not- Ray, c'mon. You're doing fine. You just... you need to be more strict, and not let 'em all walk all over you. Winston too- he's doing the same shit, it's not just you. And it's not hurting them to give them boundaries. Prevents them from growing up like unsupervised carny kids with a warped concept of right from wrong. Like yours truly.
[Hypocritical of him to say, when his style of raising Pokemon is very "hiring a horse to babysit your dog".]
Look, worst case scenario, I can be the strict dad to your bastard kids, and you can keep me in check with the ones I'm too hard on.
no subject
Aww Pete, that seems like encouragement to not be strict with them if the worst punishment would be to turn out like you. You're a great person all-around and you know it.
[He lets out a light laugh.]
And that just seems like a good way to get my Pokemon to hate you more.
no subject
Yeah, right. Don't kid me, you know more of me would be a nightmare scenario.
Most've 'em hate me anyway no matter what I do, might as well make myself useful when I'm pissing them off.
no subject
Don't be so hard on yourself, Pete. A bunch of clones of you sounds like a dream to me. Of course I'd much rather them be humans like you than Pokemon.
[Kelly looks up curiously from her juice box. And then she... gently places the chewed up juice box on Venkman's lap.
It's her way of saying she likes you.]
no subject
[He leans into Ray's touch, though, with the ghost of a smile on his lips. He eyes the juice box gift.]
... Thanks.
[It's hard to tell if he's thanking Kelly, Ray, or both.
Lyssa finally swoops down from Wyrm's crest and lands on the ground beside Kelly, chittering softly. Earthwyrm rumbles deep in her throat as she finally blinks open one eye. She rears up slightly in order to reorient herself and begins to snake around the cave floor. Before long she's lying her head down beside Ray, loosely coiled around the two Ghostbusters.]
no subject
[Kelly grins a toothy grin and makes a weird hissing sound... I think it's safe to say she's happy. And when Lyssa sits down she busies herself with talking to them about food.
Ray sighs contently and pets Wyrm's head.]
I don't think you're giving yourself nearly enough credit as a father. You clearly have a lot of Pokemon who love you. And it's not like I'm perfect- I'm still pretty sure that Junior hates my guts.
no subject
I think that's just luck on my part, not any sort of skill with raising Pokemon. The ones that hate me or barely tolerate me outweigh the ones that genuinely like me, I'm pretty sure.
Meanwhile, you've only got a couple who're assholes. That says plenty about you being good at this.
no subject
Like you wouldn't think the same if there was suddenly ten clones of me.
I think they're just like that because you're fun to tease. I know you care about your children and try your best and that in itself is good. As long as you show them that you love and support them is all you need to be a good parent.
no subject
You're not wrong. Not wrong at all.
[For better or for worse, the continued presence of their Pokemon keeps him from saying more in that regard.]
Then you're clearly doing a damn good job then at being a good parent, huh? So no more blaming yourself for being shitty at discipline.
[Yeah, Botan has one of those gremlins, in fact he's right next to her right now eating some rock candy. Hers seems a little chubbier than standard.]
You kind of learn to adapt to them eating, then find something that they really like eating.
[He loves his baby but it's kinda hard to be an engineer if she keeps eating his stuff.]
Do you got any hints on how to kickstart getting them food they like? I feel like I'm already on thin ice with Vnekman and I don't want him to dump me over Kelly eating his TMs.
no subject
I could ask her and make it quicker, though. Or have Kei ask her if she's not comfortable talking to strange people.
[You know just, casually offer to talk to someone's Pokemon for them. That's normal. Understanding Pokemon speech is normal.]
I'm sure Venkman wouldn't ditch you over that, I've been in a coma off and on for months now and my girlfriend didn't go and run off.
no subject
Oh that'd be great! Worst case scenario it can give me a good idea on what to feed her.
Although giving her Rock Candy is tempting...
[Ray perks up at the mention of coma... strangely enough.]
Oh dang, you've gotten under those weird comas too? I had this strange memory coma once a few months back! Egon and Peter nearly worried themselves sick over it but I'm glad I'm not alone on them!
no subject
Well! That's not important! Let's see--Kelly, dear? Your dad would like to know what sorts of things you like to eat, he wants to make sure you get things you actually like. Is it all right to tell me?
no subject
... Although ghost teapots sound pretty cute!
[The most important part about that conversation really.
Kelly perks up, and moves away from chewing on random rocks to look at the Pokegear. She's really tempted to eat it but... it is talking to her. That's probably mean to do, right?
She grins when Botan asks about what food she likes to eat. She likes eating everything! Everything looks so tasty!!!]
no subject
[She listens for a moment, her expression becomes an amused sort of grimace, she laughs.]
Well, I'm sure everything is tasty, sweetie, but eating everything will cause some trouble for your dad. You don't want that, do you? Which is your favorite thing to eat? My Sableye likes rock candy best, for example.
no subject
But it's not her fault that everything looks so tasty. She loves her dad but why does everything he owns look so delicious?
Ray idly watches this, amused.]
Gosh I wish I could understand her! I could understand Slimer back home pretty well, but it's not quite the same here.
