I know this is a rather unusual request, but we've been brought here from such varied worlds, that I figured it is worth a shot.

Does anyone happen to have any experience with prosthetics? I mean, designing and making one. It would be for a pokemon if that makes any difference. Thank you in advance.

Yes. Physically, he has recovered, and while he's not the most trusting, I do think he's at a point where he can handle getting fitting with prosthetics. I checked with the people at work, but unfortunately, we don't do a lot of rehabilitation, so nobody at the centre knows how to create prosthetics for a Lapras. I was hoping that maybe someone on the network could. Else I'll have to keep looking.

I hope someone knows more about making them than I would, then. But, I'm happy to help him out, if you need an extra set of hands.

You can ask, but I don't think you'll like the answer. Because I don't remember it. Any of it. When everything clarified, I was already used to it. Minus occasionally forgetting it could break things, but. That was only a couple sporks before I figured it out.

If you can't remember, then you can't remember. You gave me an honest answer, and I really can't expect more than that. I was hoping for a bit of insight into how long it might take Duscae to adjust, but thinking about it, that is probably a really individual thing, right?

Individual for sure. But also it might depend on the prosthetic. How much it can move, how heavy it is. That kind of thing.

That's true. I wonder if there is a book about this sort of subject in the library.

It's worth a try. Otherwise maybe ask at a pokemon center. They'd have to have some kind of material on the subject.

I've been thinking about taking a trip to Cerulean City too. I think if there is anyone who knows about water pokemon and prosthetics, it's probably there. Even if they don't have the experience themselves, they might know who does.

No, absolutely not.

[A pause, and then he has to add:]

Well, not during legitimate pokemon battles, at least.

In either case, I took Duscae in when he was already injured, so it is pretty difficult to figure out exactly what happened. It might have been a boating accident or being preyed on in the wild. He was a completely wild Lapras though, so it was definitely not the result of a battle.

Lapras are the ones that look kinda like a loch ness monster thing, yeah? With the big shells? What's out there that'd be big enough to try and eat 'em?

I'm not really sure what a Loch Ness monster looks like, but that does sound like it. Big shell, long neck, with a horn on their forehead. Incredibly intelligent and kind too.

Not much. Which is why we aren't completely sure. They normally live in pods and are big enough that, for the most part, they don't have to worry about predators once they are mature. A Sharpedo could theoretically cause this sort of damage, especially if there were multiple of them and they ganged up on him, but that is very rare behaviour for them.

So... the poor guy must've gotten separated then for it to happen, huh?

How's his swimming? I, er... I wouldn't know where to start on the whole false fin thing, but I can't imagine it'll be easy for him to get used to having something like that attached to him.

It's... he gets around. He still has his front flippers after all, so he is not entirely helpless, but he is much slower compared to my other Lapras. He also tires out a lot more quickly because he needs to move his entire bulk with his two flippers rather than four.

And I imagine it will be a slow process, yes. To be honest, I don't really have any experience with this. But I still want to try and make it work. He deserves to swim like a regular Lapras.

Does he have any other Lapras buddies to help him out when he gets tired? They could give him a boost and support him when he's practicing with it.

Oh yes. I have an entire pod of Lapras. Right now, including him, I have six permanent members and four youngsters that I hope to release into the wild when they are a bit older. Up until recently, I had six more, but those have now joined wild Lapras pods. And they all help him out. Even the babies quickly understand he can't do as much as the other adults.

I'm a bit limited in materials and resources, but I've got some experience in the field, yes.

Then would you be willing to take a look at my Lapras' situation and see if there is anything you could do? Of course, I'd be willing to compensate you in whatever way you wish. I just really want to give him a chance to swim like a normal Lapras again. Or something close to it.
