Guess it's autumn again, huh... Little over a month and... Ahh, well, that's not really important.

[The video is a view from a porch of the shore of a pond, where a Sawsbuck in autumn colors is cheerfully singing to a small school of brightly colored Magikarp that have gathered. From what little is picked up by the microphone from here, she's... not great at singing, let's be honest here, but she's enjoying herself, and apparently the fish are too.

Although, they could just be here for the Cherubio's that a Yanma is gently attempting to coax one of those fire rabbits into tossing to them. But it's nicer to let Ellie think that she's got an audience.]

It is almost October, though. So...

[He sighs, heavily. But a quiet "Fairy~" next to him prods him into continuing.]

...Yeah, this is just sort of a public service announcement, I guess. I don't know what causes it, but over the years, October has this tendency to have something bothersome end up happening. Often related to ghost-types. It's not always ghosts, but there's a decent chance. Last year was pretty tame, in comparison, but I'm still expecting something worse this year.

So just... try not to go outside alone during October, okay? Not even grocery shopping in town. Take a Pokemon with you, at least. [dryly] Otherwise, you might get in an embarrassing amount of trouble that your starter won't let go of even seven years later. Right, Rose?

["Clefairy~" From the innocent sound of her voice, she doesn't see what the problem is with not letting it go already.]

Befitting the season, huh... Do the Pokémon know about Halloween and do this intentionally?

Could be. It's as good an explanation as any, if it's deliberate like that.

It isn't always something related to that sort of holiday, though. There was that one time those red and blue teams showed up and started attacking each other, that was a pain...

By the way you say that, I'm guessing you don't just mean Pokémon battles? I've only gotten here very recently, but I've been getting the impression those are the norm just about everywhere you could set foot.

I mean, they were battling with Pokemon, sure. But most people don't summon Kyogre and Groudon and force them to fight for them.

These names mean... absolutely nothing to me, sorry.

Ahh, yeah, if you're new, that's not really stuff that comes up every day...

They're what are known as Legendary Pokemon. There's one that's a goat that's kind of the closest thing to a god this place has, except actually reasonable. Kyogre and Groudon are more elemental and rule the sea and land. And you might hear stuff in the news sometimes about Suicune and Ho-oh and some other dogs and birds, they're especially important around here...

I've definitely heard of Suicune, yes. There seems to be quite a ruckus around it.

I just didn't know there were this many deities, but it certainly paints a different picture of the conflict you were describing. Enslaving deities should be considered a bad idea in just about every world.

Ahh, yeah, Suicune is... No one's quite sure what's happening there. Or what anybody can do, really.

Honestly, dealing with deity-level beings in any way is usually more trouble than it's worth, just in general. At least the legendary Pokemon are usually pretty reasonable if you don't piss them off, but there's a reason most sane people don't usually go around trying to catch them...

I can't say I've met any such beings in my world, but it sounds like that's different for you?

Yeah, unfortunately. It's a whole bothersome mess nobody signed up for but we get to deal with anyway, and I'm still pretty sure there's too much I don't know... I try not to think about it too hard, honestly. Doing the day to day stuff around here is exhausting enough without worrying about the crap back home, especially when I've only been back there a couple of times in almost nine years.

You left and returned... multiple times. And each time at home, time had stopped for you when you came back?

Honestly, it sounds upsetting. This kind of disjointed double life. ]

Ahh, yeah. It doesn't happen all that often anymore, or if it does you don't hear about it, but sometimes people here end up in comas for a week or so. Their bodies are here, asleep, but they end up back home for a while, until they wake up here again. It's happened to me twice.

If this were a movie, that would have really troublesome implications....

Though I do still wonder why the body doesn't disappear in such events.

No idea. And even if anybody around here wanted to try to study it, it's not like it happens often enough, or predictably enough, to really figure it out. I'm guessing maybe it's to differentiate between those incidents and when people end up going home for good?

Funny that whatever brought us here would care at all about differentiating things... and if the difference involved someone's body being left here vacant as their soul is sent to a different universe, I'm not sure I appreciate it.

Well, I'm sure if we ever get to actually find out who or what brought us all here, there'll be time for questions. All I've found out is, it wasn't Arceus.

Is Arceus at all interested in aiding an investigation? I imagine this infringes onto his authority.

...You know, I'm not sure whether anyone asked for his help, the couple times he's shown himself. Maybe if he shows up again some time, someone should bring it up.

Huh. I didn't expect this lead to have gone unpursued for so long. I'll keep an eye out.

Ahh, good for you. That definitely sounds a lot less bothersome than getting possessed by a confused ghost or lost in a forest made of nightmares...

Yeah my spooky woods experience was not a seasonal one. Dunno...dunno what to think about that.

Also half of why we got Pokemon. Lotta my housework gets done by Pokemon these days.

Yeah, they're definitely helpful. Everybody does at least a little, so it isn't as much for one of us as it would be.

Plus, I know even Rose appreciates Marian's cooking.
