3rd Recipe [Cherrygrove City, Video]
[Today's video from Jane starts with a shot of the water and a faint, violin-like accompaniment to the background music. It's clear it's at the small, beach-y area of Cherrygrove, judging by the surroundings, but that's only noticeable for a moment before a Goldeen floats into the shot, happily swimming as an Audino tries to follow alongside in the shallows, a bit wobbly in the water. The shot retracts, showing a Kricketune using its arm-blades to make the delicate violin sounds, stopping with a flourish for his audience - a small, sparkling Fennekin with soot-grey fur. It gives a Fen! of approval before it turns, noticing Jane's filming and hurrying over (in its haste, it kicks up sand in the Kricketune's face, and the poor bug proceeds to fret and fuss over his mustache).]
Hoo hoo! Hello, August! [The feed shifts, focusing on Jane where she sits, a boater perched expertly on her head. The top of the Fennekin's head can be seen as it curls up in her lap.] And hello everyone! I thought a little bit of a scene-setter would be nice to start with today, considering I have a question for you all.
[She clears her throat expertly.] I've been wondering about what sort of places all the people here come from. What are they like? For humans, do you come from Earth? What is your Earth like? If not, what is your home planet like? How similar or different was it to this place? For folks who weren't human before coming here - and I am aware that is a thing that happens - what were your homes like? If they don't translate well to human conventions, you can talk about it broadly or go into detail, whichever you prefer. I've been a staunch skeptic for most of my life, but I do earnestly want to learn, and in return, I'd be glad to field some questions about my home! I can't say it's particularly interesting, but it's only fair to share, right?

[he doesn't have a lot of reference for comparison, honestly. what's strange about
a world full of giant robots and people with supernatural powersthe world he's lived in for his entire life? so he opts for the political climate, because that seems like a thing that could differ considerably.]The US and the USSR are using Afghanistan as the site of a proxy war, with the CIA financially backing the rebelling Mujahideen instead of confronting the Soviets directly. Both superpowers are backing Iraq against Iran due to concerns about Islamic revolution and trying to keep Iraq as their own ally, but the ground's more or less at a stalemate and Iraq's started using their air force to bomb tankers and cities. Mozambique, Ethiopia, El Salvador, and a half a dozen other countries are embroiled in civil wars, with the US and USSR involved in a few of them.
We've come close to nuclear war a few times, but so far it's been narrowly avoided at the last second.
Oh gosh, I'm glad that was avoided at least. You can't exactly solve conflicts when everything's blown up and barren. Are you a soldier, sir?

[he kind of hopes some of those things he just listed went better in other universes. if they could've gone better.]

It was...2011 when I left home, and if I had stuck around, it would've been 2012 there when I came here.

Did everything still-- wait. Stuck around? Didn't you just arrive here?

Did everything still what?

I was going to ask if everything I just described went down the same way-- take a guess at where the timeline split to make our worlds different. But forget it. Let's hear about the alternate universe.
no subject
Oh - uh, it wasn't really all that interesting! Everything was dead there.

I meant 'how did you end up in an alternate universe'?

I started playing a video game with my friends, thinking it was going to be a lot of fun. It turned out to have the tools to alter reality and suck us into a Medium in which we were supposed to be able to create our own universe. It is, by far, not a normal thing.

[still doesn't top 2012 Japan being the site of some demonic war that eventually involved God]
