Diego Brando ♞ Jojo's Bizarre Adventure ♞ OTA
[ For Diego this was a situation that was neither good nor bad, but it was decidedly better than being dead. Whether he liked it or not he was in unfamiliar territory, no sign of anyone or anything that even looked remotely familiar to him. Stands were one thing, but these little creatures that came running out of the grass along the route were unlike anything he'd ever seen before. He would have liked to write it off as nothing, something that he needn't worry about but that wasn't the only unfamiliar thing he was faced with.
He still hadn't worked out where the music was coming from or even where all of this new equipment (if you could call it that) had come from either. The area free of pesky little monsters, Diego sat himself down under a tree to start rifling through the bag he'd found himself with. Liquids. Rope. Balls? He pulled out one of the pokéballs, frowning as he turned it over in his hands before bringing it up to his ear and shaking it. Empty...? There was a click of his tongue as he tossed it over his shoulder, along with another one and then another. ]
Useless, absolutely useless...
[ One more pokéball tossed behind him, not caring at all where it might land; it was the same with the last one, at least until he didn't hear the hollow rustle of it connecting with the ground. Had it hit someone? Had it been caught? He barely looked up from his bag to glance over his shoulder, tone even as he finally addressed whoever was behind him. ]
You're wasting your time, they're all empty.
♞ in the nick(it) of time;
[ This place was distracting, so much so that Diego had let down his guard long enough for one of those pesky little Nickits to make off with his bag. He wasn't particularly invested in it, but it was rather inconvenient now that the remainder of the contents were spread all over the ground. Perhaps it was luck or some kind of divine intervention that one of the little thieves was something of a straggler, Diego squatting down to offer his hand out and gently coax it toward him.
All he needed was a touch, just a brief moment for it to cease being what it was to become something new. Nickit no more, just a small dinosaur in it's place paying very rapt attention to the man in front of it. ]
Find it for me, will you?
[ There was a pause as he gave the creature an affectionate pat on the head, pushing himself back up to his feet as he shooed it away. No sense in risking the rest of his stuff go missing, not when he could send someone else to retrieve it. All he had to do was wait for results and keep everything else from disappearing, at least that much he could do from the shade beneath that nearby tree. ]
♞ wildcard;
[ If you don't see anything here that works for you we can always just go with the flow! Write your own shenanigans or send me a pm to discuss possibilities, we'll figure it out! ]
better than death.
let's not question how johnny ended up here, behind diego, standing in this clearly with an empty pokeball in his hand and he's standing. it's happening, though, and we're rolling with the punches.
let's also not ask how johnny has the first act of his stand and not a later one. that's just a personal decision and no one can take it from me. either way, the pink buddy is floating over the shoulder of a very pissed looking johnny joestar. he is not happy to see you, diego. ]]
I thought we got rid of you.
no subject
We...?
[ As far as he could remember Johnny hadn't had anything to do with what happened on the train, at least not in terms of his death. They were all there for the same reason, weren't they? ]
I was certain I was dying, but it seems I was victorious after all and none of it had anything to do with you.
no subject
[[ it's been so long since he's has to consider other possibilities... maybe...? ]] ... Which world are you from? [[ he backs away slightly, a tense edge in his voice evident now. ]] What were you fighting for? On the train?
no subject
What do you mean which world? The only one that matters, the one with the corpse! Unless you've gone completely daft, I'm sure you can figure out what I was after on the train...
[ Neighbouring worlds were one thing, someone asking if you were a copy was something else. ]
no subject
but, that didn't really help answer the question why he didn't remember anything from this place. diego hadn't been gone long, not by jonathan's account, at least. he brings a hand to his face, staring diego down as he rubs at his mouth to try and put the pieces together. ]] You seriously don't remember being here? You ain't lying to me?
[[ lord knows he can't think of a reason why diego would play dumb and lie about this, but he just assumes that diego will lie about anything because diego is a lying liar who lies. a liarpants. a liar liar plants for hire. you get the drift. ]]
no subject
[ Goodness, that did hit a nerve didn't it? Diego pursed his lips slightly, hand coming down to rest on his hip as he shifted his weight from one side to the other. Unfamiliar as he was with this place, at least one thing remained constant and he could take solace in getting underneath Johnny's skin. ]
And to answer your question, how am I meant to remember a place that I've never seen before in my life? What could I possibly have to gain by lying about it?
no subject
not like he would have done much, but still. you wouldn't have heard the end of it. his glare narrows. ]] I don't really know what you stand to gain from most of the shit you do, Brando. [[ that's a lie, but he's being particularly bitter right now. ]] But, I guess that answer is as good as any I'm going to get from you.
... I'm just gonna cut to the chase: You aren't the first Diego that's been here. But, I've seen another 'you', and he wasn't that one either. [[ he shakes his head, but only slightly as to never lose sight on the
jackassman in front of him. ]] I don't know what to make of this.no subject
The rest of that statement, though, that was rather curious and he found himself tilting his head as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned forward. ]
What do you mean 'that one'?
no subject
[[ he trails off. wait. he was too caught up with diego's general amnesia to really focus on it when it was said, but he did mention something about being 'victorious after all'... ]] Don't tell me, you don't remember dying?

in the nick(it) of time
once it scampered off there was something else approaching, something she was more familiar with in a sense. it looked like a creature, but definitely had a different feeling. kneeling down she allowed the dinosaur to approach, reaching for the bag, holding it back she then stood ]
No, you can lead me to your person instead, deal?
[ there wasn't any response, but there seemed to be an understanding from one stand to another. following after the dino she pauses a distance when it makes it's way back over to the blond. she watches curiously at first, apprehensive. a new stand user is never a good thing, is it? ]
no subject
One eye opened, gaze first settling on the little creature returning sans bag. That was a problem, wasn't it? One that he didn't have to dwell on for long when he saw someone new; someone that just happened to have his bag in her hands. ]
You have something that belongs to me, don't you? I appreciate that you took the time to return it, even if it was already on it's way back here without outside help.
no subject
[ this was a serious situation, any other time she probably wouldn't have any problem just tossing the bag over. but at this moment she was in need of something very important. hand held out, she made the universal "gimme" gesture ]
Water, at least half of it.
no subject
[ He could have been generous about it, grateful even that she'd returned his property to him but that entitled little gesture rubbed him the wrong way. He did push himself away from the tree, taking a step closer to her as he thrust out his hand and mirrored her action. ]
I didn't ask for your help and you're not entitled to anything that I have, let alone half of it.
no subject
[ pulling the bag back she shook her head ]
I'm not helping, it's a finder's fee. The creature you manipulated understood that much.
no subject
[ He could feel the corner of his lip curling when she pulled the bag away from his reach. ]
My dinosaur was simply following orders, he wasn't told to do anything other than return the item. Somehow I doubt that the poor creature understood that someone was going to try and commit highway robbery...
WILDCARD TIME... lmk if this doesn't work tho
And then everyone's abilities come back to them, and he can't help but think about when Diego described his 'stand' to him. It was a very odd term for it, and honestly he had no idea why it was called a stand ('it just was'), but it sounded absolutely incredible in the way that his child-self would no doubt have gone mad with excitement over.
It is about while he's thinking of this, that he swears he sees a raptor of some kind.]
...Is that...a different pokemon?
[He's probably half right.]
this is perfect!
He looked up from his spot beneath the tree, brow raising as this mountain of a man made his presence known. Finally, someone that might be able to give him information that he needed, information about here. ]
I'm sorry, a different what?
[ Was he talking about the dinosaur? Or what it had been before? Don't be daft, Jonathan, dinosaurs aren't pokémon! ]
no subject
[And then he pauses, realizing who he's looking at.] My goodness- Diego? We've been wondering where you went for weeks! Have you been faring alright? A number of your own team arrived to the farm not long ago, Erina and I were quite at a loss on how to seek you out, you-
[The rambling fortuitously trails off, as Jonathan realizes something quite important. He's heard of this before after all. And...] ...You...have no idea who I am, do you... [he trails off, ultimately frowning.]
...I must apologize for that then. This must be quite confusing...
no subject
English, though, that much had to be a decent sign. Right? Perhaps. ]
I haven't the foggiest idea who you are or what this place is, but you do seem to at least have a basic understanding of who I am. Care to elaborate the rest of it for me?
no subject
We appeared in this place not long after the other however- no abilities from our home, and rather few possessions. Thus, between the two of us, we determined it would be wisest to set out as a team- we were limited to travel upon foot, with days between ourselves and the nearest town after all.
Ultimately we travelled for quite a time together- and along that time, both of us gathered teams of 'pokemon'. The fauna here.
[There is a pause, and a somewhat amused smile.] ...You had quite the tendency to pursue equine, or dinosaurid sorts, [Jonathan chuckles.] Naturally those are the sorts of pokemon which wandered toward myself and my wife's place of work not long after we split up for a time...
[He sighs.] I had heard of people coming and going without memory of prior experiences here in this place, I shall admit...but this is the first I've properly experienced it. I cannot expect you to be the same as 'he', but as odd as it may sound, it is at least good to see 'you' again. I imagine the pokemon that were left behind would feel the same.
no subject
[ It was something of a problem, perhaps a little more unnecessarily confusing than it could or should have been. Was this what it was like hearing himself talk at length? No, that was absolutely impossible, wasn't it?
He was silent for a long while, a hand coming up to his chin to tap on it thoughtfully. He didn't want to hear him go on forever, but he did have information and sadly Diego didn't have many options. ]
I'm not sure we can completely rule out that 'he' wasn't an alternate version of 'me'. My abilities, as you've just witnessed, are still very much intact; I've no trouble controlling them in the least bit.
[ That thoughtful expression turned into something a little more smug, Diego tilting his head slightly. ]
And these "pokémon" as you called them, they're pets or something similar? I can't say I've really seen anything like them before, even if they do seem to bear some similarities to creatures back home.
no subject
[If Diego's ability is in place, and the other is aware though...] Then...would it be incorrect to assume the pokemon I saw just now was your doing? I was never able to see it in action! Your alternate self, he explained quite a lot about it- it seemed an impressive ability, and I was curious to see how it operated! [He somehow manages not to trail off on the fact that this last Diego obviously vanished before then.]
no subject
Ah, so you know something about my Scary Monsters, then? I wonder how much he explained to you or what else he might have given away without considering the consequences...
[ Helpful as Jonathan was, he didn't know a thing about him and it was still questionable as to whether he was an asset or a hindrance. ]
...at any rate, am I to understand that if I remain here I'll lose my own abilities?
[ Here was better than dead, but even Diego wasn't sure that he was willing to accept being powerless now that he'd grown used to it. ]
no subject
[After all, this Diego doesn't trust him like that.
And speaking of that trust. He pauses, and then frowns.] I don't believe you give your other self enough credit however, Diego. This was not information given lightly, nor casually. It was information we shared in great confidence, after quite a lot of time spent travelling together.
You're correct though- every one of us loses those abilities. The world is fairly non-violent though, [Jonathan adds with a nod.] Almost supernaturally so I could even say. While the pokemon certainly partake in their own battles, there is something rather fairytale-like about it I find.
