God, she really is like Steven, isn't she? They always had so many words to say.
I'm genuinely unsure what your point is regarding Steven's Fetch. And he's not being mean about it, his expression is indifferent bordering confused. Fetch are just like that sometimes, you get really complex well-made ones that fool everyone, and sometimes you get shitty animated scarecrows. Anyway, you don't need to try and justify Steven's behaviour, we've already had this discussion several times now and I'm pretty sure I know mostly everything.

She ducks her head awkwardly. "Anyway. Uh. Tell me if I'm saying the wrong shit? I'm not used to what I'm saying mattering because I'm not used to everyone being able to see me anymore. Or, you know, hear me."

Snide, absolutely, but if you piss him off he will active aggressive you instead.

But then she bites her lip. "Anyway. Uh. Before I took us for a drive to tangentland, weren't you asking me about me? I forget now."

Sure. I only know stuff about you second-hand from Steven. You don't look very dead, you know. Even for a weird weekend.

(Steven always told her that there was nothing wrong with little while lies in the name of social interaction, especially if it helped everyone save face.)
"Yeah, I'm like alive and solid again. It's really weird. Usually I'm a straight up ghost if I'm in the Skinlands and most of the time I'm not, I'm like in the Shadowlands or in Stygia. Which, uh, is this ghost city. There's a couple of them. Though, like, the one I probably should have gone to got trashed centuries ago, so I had to chill in Stygia instead. It's not a bad place for like a ghost town and I met some really nice dead friends there from like medieval France and shit. And, like, these last six years, that's mostly where I was, unless it was Dia and I went to visit Mom and Dad--oh shit, I just realized, next time I go, maybe I can get Steven or Shinobu to manifest me.
"Shinobu's my summoner buddy," she explains. "He's another one like you guys, only the really hot kind. I think he and Gil kinda like each other, but I dunno if they know yet? Anyway, uh, the way it was explained to me, Steven was investigating shit in New York to find out what happened to the vampires, because it's part of this big project his not-so-secret club, the Lord Sages, are working on. What happened of course is Gehenna and like, Caine coming home and everyone being fucked when Caine comes home, but I was double dead then so I don't know any details. But he found some shit my buddy Derek had written after I was executed and he found my own vampocalypse notes and he let his teacher borrow them and his teacher let Fetch Grandpa borrow them and Fetch Grandpa showed them to Shinobu and they decided to see if they could summon me with them to ask me vampocalypse questions."

The hot ones are called Fairest. Your brother's a Darkling, I'm a Wizened.
But part of that is very confusing.
Sorry - Fetch Grandpa?

She leans forward towards him, the rhythm of her speech falling into story-telling cadences quite naturally.
"So. Like ninety years ago in Japan, there was this teenage Mage who was so good at what he did that he'd already woken up and wrote his name on the bottom of his watchtower before he was even seventeen, because he was born in this clan of people who already were mages. And he was super good at summoning shit, both spirits and ghosts. And then when he was seventeen a pair of True Fae took him.
"But, like, because he lived with this clan of mages already, they knew exactly what his Fetch was when they saw him. And I think the Fetch also knew or maybe that's how he found out? Anyway, he went on the run and had adventures and made it to America to some point eventually and to California because there's an immigrant community here. Anyway somewhere in the process, Shinobu's Fetch decided that it was super unfair what had been done to Shinobu and that he owed it to him to try to rescue him.
"So, uh, he spent a bunch of decades trying to, until he finally did. Except for Shinobu it was only five years? Anyway, over all those years he managed to make a surprising amount of Changeling and Mage allies in the process, enough that he's got Court protection even though he's technicaly a Fetch, and also is now the official oldest man in San Diego. He likes to say it's because he's 'made of strong stuff' and I really hope that Shinobu ends up just as much of a troll as him when he's older.
"Anyway. Once Shinobu's Fetch rescued him, they had to get him a bunch of fake papers and shit so he'd have a legal identity. So they go to Shinobu's fetch's Changeling buddy who makes them--that would be Steven's teacher--and so now legally Shinobu's Fetch is, like, his grandfather or great-grandfather in the eyes of the state of California. Which is why he's Fetch Grandpa now."
